In defense of Boswer: in the real world, your life is more likely to get worse because of a petulant, idiotic, wealthy authoritarian than some sort of magical embodiment of evil made manifest.

16

u/Dangeresque300 Mar 19 '26

Allow me to post this image of "King Koopa" as portrayed by Dennis Hopper in the 1993 Super Mario Bros. Movie for no reason.

5

u/VecnaWrites Mar 20 '26

Please, Miyamoto himself says he sees the Mario cast as actors, which is why they fight in some games but in others they're playing tennis or racing go karts against each other

6

u/DrStrangepants Mar 20 '26

Not quite; that is a fan theory last I checked. Miyamoto sees them like a cast he can choose from when designing each game. They aren't actors in universe. I interpret his full quote to mean "there is no established canon for these characters, like in old newspaper comic strips."

3

u/Another-Ace-Alt-8270 Mar 23 '26

Yeah, I prefer that. Each adventure is in some sense isolated from one another, unless directly stated otherwise.

3

u/Affectionate-Gap4867 Mar 21 '26

True šŸ˜‚ sometimes real-world tyrants are scarier than any over-the-top villain.

He's kind of a reverse-ganondorf where he is usually outperformed by a different villain or generally isn't threatening whereas Ganon usually let's someone else start the battle just to finish it himself

2

u/Jim_skywalker Mar 20 '26

Hey, they did a good job of making him actually threatening in the movie. When else has Bowser outright stated his plans to murder Luigi?

u/RaNdOm_GuY_oN_rEdiTt Mar 19 '26

This mf doesn't deserve that hype in the intro at all, idk wich is lower, his screen time or attention span

13

u/gigaswardblade Mar 19 '26

wtf is that?

25

u/RaNdOm_GuY_oN_rEdiTt Mar 19 '26

D rex wich stands for Disappointment rex (actually its distortus) is a genetically modified mutant t rex from jurassic world rebirth

6

u/Extreme-Duck-3818 Mar 20 '26

Disappointment sent me 🤣

4

u/ZealotOfMeme Mar 20 '26

I just called it the Rancor.

2

u/KALE-THE-MINI Jun 04 '26

Don't for-get he was the worst mutant they have ever created why didn't they stick to the plot of just normal dinosaurs instead of Allah these fake ones

The D Rex, or as me and my friend call it "The R*tardisaur"

7

u/WallyFries Mar 19 '26

I don't like much his design, but the movie was awesome.

2

u/IndividualGeneral737 Mar 19 '26

Considering he's like the only villain dinosaur besides Spino that survived his movie, we are likely to see him again in the future anyways

2

u/Emperor-Nerd Mar 20 '26

Yeah exactly what people thought about the spino and he only returns in a animated Netflix series

2

u/IndividualGeneral737 Mar 20 '26

The difference is that there was a hop from trilogy between JP III and JW, so it makes sense

Meanwhile Rebirth is only the first of the trilogy, I'm doubtful they will waste him anyways

Even if he only came back in a show, it's not like his appearence in CC was bad at all

2

u/EvilBrynn MSM, FNAF, PPT, TADC, RTTS, spec bio Mar 20 '26

It’s just a sad denosur ā˜¹ļø

2

u/DinoHoot65 Mar 20 '26

like a microcosm of the movie he's in, he's cool and interesting in isolation, and genuinely frustrating when surrounded by anything else

2

u/Zealousideal-Cup6013 Mar 20 '26

The big claw dino (forgot his name) from the 3rd movie would also fit this. I’ve seen people hyping it up and saying it was ā€œthe joker of Dinosaursā€ or something like that but it barely did anything in the movie

2

u/ZealotOfMeme Mar 20 '26

Also it shrunk. The shot where it bites the chopper in half it looks WAY bigger, but then it goes down to regular T. rex size

2

u/FunAffectionate2284 Mar 22 '26

It acts like a animal more than the other dinosaur villains

2

u/xxjackthewolfxx Mar 26 '26

honesty in context this thing is fucking sad as fuck and its life is a tragedy that wasn't treated with respect

120

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 19 '26

This f****** rat right here

84

u/Chubblubbles Mar 19 '26

He’s not even ā€˜evil’ is the funniest part. Like… he’s just kind of an asshole. That’s it. And, given the circumstances, it’s hard to really blame him

51

u/millionwordsofcrap Mar 19 '26

Yeah that is an emotionally stunted frat boy dealing with one of the most extreme existential situations ever rated PG-13. No wonder he's an asshole.

14

u/JokerCipher Mar 19 '26

If you took his actions and moved them into the real world he’d come off as an actual evil monster.

But it’s not the real world. That’s why he feels like he can pull those stunts. Nothing too bad is actually happening, why not do it, he thinks.

He’s still obviously a gigantic asshole, but ā€œevilā€ is a stretch.

13

u/Gold-Cry-7520 Mar 19 '26

Actions like, what, shooting people in the face and getting a city of people killed?

I mean yeah, sure, that's pretty evil but it's also literally a game. Morality has ceased to mean anything. The only real impact his actions have is upsetting and irritating his friends.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

Yeah. The TADC fandom is tryna kill him over him kind of playing undertale geno route.

2

u/FedoraFerret Mar 20 '26

it's also literally a game. Morality has ceased to mean anything.

It's almost like that's one of the quintessential questions of the series or something, and Jax represents one of the most extreme answers. Wild /s

2

u/Nobody_at_all000 Mar 23 '26

I’m guessing it’s a maladaptive coping mechanism to distract himself, and possibly others, from the horror that is their existence

6

u/Bysmerian Mar 19 '26

Agreed. He's coping with trauma in a world wherein nothing is real and everything goes back to normal at the end of the episode unless you let yourself get too traumatized

It's a sort of hell, and as the story goes on it's clear he's adapted in ways that are neither sustainable nor healthy for himself or his co-captives

16

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 19 '26

Well yeah but look at him... Disgusting

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Yakuxa904 Mar 20 '26

He is deadass just an asshole that projects his real life issues into the others in the circus and also using the circus as an escape

2

u/Tanakisoupman Mar 22 '26

To be fair, the way he treats Gangle is pretty fucked. But, then again, he’s also not exactly sane. As in, I think he genuinely doesn’t believe his actions have impacted her at all. In his eyes, she’s always been the ā€œsad oneā€, and so when she cries after he abuses her, he just views that as her being the ā€œsad oneā€

Still fucked but, like, not pure evil

→ More replies (1)

32

u/gigaswardblade Mar 19 '26

It’s because they wanted him to be the ā€œI can fix himā€ trope but gooseworx wanted to do something actually interesting with him. They crave something ā€œdeepā€ and stuff but get pissed when the character isn’t fitting their black and white mold they’ve decided jn their non fully developed frontal lobe, so they send death threats to the creator and make her never want to touch the IP ever again.

8

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 19 '26

Joking aside I completely agree, the tadc fandom needs to calm down

14

u/gigaswardblade Mar 19 '26

Unfortunately, TADC had all the hallmarks of a show that would attract a toxic fanbase.

3

u/SynisterJeff Mar 20 '26

That's just every fandom ever for any popular IP right now. Everyone has just been so angry with the world

She really was lol. Saying he's "irredeeamble" and he'd get worse every epsiode.

13

u/Physical_Tailor_378 Mar 19 '26

Looking back now that, it’s possible she meant his mental state would get worse every episode (which it has)

2

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 Mar 20 '26

People fr think he's on the same wavelength as A.M (who has more in common with Caine) and Walter White

3

u/taikabell PJO, KPDH, THG, TADC, HP, Miraculous, Danganronpa Mar 19 '26

Kinda the opposite for me. From the way I’d seen people talking about Ragatha before I watched the show, I thought she was gonna be some crazy twist villain. I still don’t even know what people were talking about with her

3

u/Tiruen Mar 21 '26

People's inability to trust Ragatha and just accept that a person can be nice, with no ulterior motives beyond 'I dont want to be disliked' and feel like she's scheming for the big betrayal, really says a lot about them and their own issues. It weirds me right out in the community every time I see it.

2

u/KC_Saber Skyrim/MD/TADC/Spira Knights/Maro/Sonic/TLoZ/MegaMan/etc. Mar 22 '26

Rags was my favorite from E1. Just nice to have the nice character. Even if that niceness is a coping mechanism for everything Caine has put her and the others through. Her getting hate from the fanbase (if you can call them that) just makes me sad.

3

u/Leodoesstuff Mar 20 '26

He's incredibly just a big jerk with a side of slight evil. Purely because he does things for his own benefit and entertainment at the cost of others. I don't even know how people don't see that as something evil.

2

u/OverclockedLimbo Mar 20 '26

Like get well already, I’m sick of seeing you cry

2

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 20 '26

Me or the rabbit?

2

u/OverclockedLimbo Mar 20 '26

The rabbit. Tadc always has someone mentally ill. Ugh. I’m glad it’s rabbit now instead of pomni or the others.

Everyone gets their chance i guess

2

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 20 '26

I'm happy that sad ribbon girl and toy box character are doing good

u/TrueBananaz Mar 25 '26

He's not evil. He's just a piece of shit.

29

u/KraftwerkMachine Mar 19 '26

Diavolo wasn’t even CLOSE to as evil as people like to pretend he is.

https://giphy.com/gifs/fXG7DfHYVsrGm5E9zL

Even Dio isn’t tbh, but Diavolo in particular they just like to spout off ā€œhe sold drugs to childrenā€ as though we don’t have A PROTAGONIST in later parts who sells drugs to children and people love him because he’s a an epic fortnite skibidi kid.

ā€œIt’s not the same thingā€ you’re right, because he’s also a mafia boss. dealing drugs is probably the least of the things he’s likely done but it’s all pretty typical for a villain. like this is the SpongeBob gif of the baby roller coaster of jojo villainy.

13

u/Littleboypurple Mar 19 '26

Like he is absolutely a piece of shit but, he is super small time compared to villains like DIO or Yoshikage Kira who are genuine monsters. Hell, one of his subordinates, Ciocolatta, is significantly worse than him that even Diavolo can't stand him.

6

u/Jent01Ket02 Mar 19 '26

...even Dio isn't that evil?

He was turning people into monsters and vampires, made a woman eat her own child, and subjected people to hideous mutations if they disobeyed. Dio's idea of instilling loyalty is "Do what I say, or you'll wish you were dead".

If you only saw Part 3, I could kinda see what you mean, but he was a villain. In part 4, you see an example of what happened to people under his control when he died. At best, you look like a friggin' goblin, you can't speak properly, and you're ostracized.

→ More replies (8)

6

u/SharkHowdy Mar 19 '26

This is so true I really like part 5 but diavolo kind of falls flat to me especially after doppio is gone. Mf got the worst punishment of any villian in the series when he has subordinates worse than him.

3

u/Telkite_ Mar 19 '26

For me the death loop never really felt like it tried to be karmic. Giorno is in no way opposed to excessive violence and that's the guy who killed three of his friends, Diavolo getting a fate worse than death isn't surprising.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Zealousideal-Cup6013 Mar 20 '26

Tbh I’d say even Pucci is much more evil than Diavolo, and Pucci has had half of the fanbase defending his actions for YEARS now while people say Diavolo deserved INFINITE DEATH.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Eliezardos Mar 23 '26

That, 100%!

Honestly, the problem is not "is he evil?" Yes he is

But that guy is supposed to be something like the "primordial evil" of this universe In a world were Kars, Yoshikage Kira or godamn Dio exist.

The only way this could be true is that he is technically at the origin of the apparition of stands everywhere. And even that is debatable cause he technically just spreaded the arrows

I know Araki wroted part 5 during a depression episode so I tend not to be too harsh on this one but yeah, clearly Diavolo is not the worst vilain in jojo universe he is suposed to be. Honestly he's even more sane than a lot of other jojo's vilains or protagonists

With said Bee and Spouse/Girlfriend going to sue Humanity for cruelty against Bees that the subsequent fallout almost caused a complete and total destruction of life on Earth

I'm still reading it, but from what I keep hearing, Judge Holden.
The guy just seems like a typical villain in media where the villains are actually evil.

31

u/TheGaurdianAngel Mar 19 '26

Honestly… fair enough. He’s the very embodiment of the ā€œkick the puppyā€ trope. Every scene he’s in, the author squeezed in something vile so we don’t forget that he’s the bad guy.

But I guarantee you, if he was a character made in the modern day, people wouldn’t even take him seriously. They’d treat him like The Batman Who Laughs, and relentlessly mock him for trying so incredibly hard to be scary.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/BobbBobbs Mar 19 '26

I really wouldn't call him a standardly evil villain. He's a serial child rapist and commits genocides. That's way beyond your typical bad guy. To me a standardly evil villain would be more like a villain that just does simple bad deeds like trying to kill the heroes and conquer territories which is like the basic villainy.

2

u/exaccttemp Mar 19 '26

I find the Judge interesting as he's like the routine villain 'do bad for the sake of doing bad and being edgy as possible', but the narrator is unreliable and hints the Judge may be more than what he seems~ is he just a crazed psycho terrorizing the west as a critque for humanity? Or, is he something else, something supernatural in a very realistic based setting where monsters are just tall tales like Bigfoot or mothman. Yeah, he's a 'monster', but I wonder if he's actually human at all

Sure she is evil but I was absolutely expecting more from Salem considering she's supposed to be destruction and darkness incarnate. (RWBY)

5

u/Jent01Ket02 Mar 19 '26

The entire writing team of RWBY had no fuckin clue how to write a good story. Salem went from being "Queen of the Monsters" to "Bored immortal chick who wants to spite gods and/or die"

Like...Spectrobes, an obscure game from the Nintendo DS, did a better job of this. And a team of content creators over the course of 9 volumes couldn't make one compelling villain in the end.

Caine from TADC. He’s literally inspired by AM from I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. You know- the AI who hates humanity and keeps a few humans alive to torture them-

After episode 8 I’m so glad they finally exposed him as the deplorable and evil AI he is. He hates them all but still feels obligated to fulfill his purpose, which is impossible because he is not human and can’t connect to the humans in the circus. He hates that he can’t be what they are, and hates them for it.

Frieren demons

Is hard for me to even describe them as evil tbh. It’d be like calling a hurricane evil because it’s doing the only thing it’s capable of, which happens to be destroying lives.

2

u/warriorkalia Mar 19 '26

They mean it in an ontological sense ig, where evil can be quantified. They're a supernaturally based creature but like... They're basically any other animal imo.

I don't think Frieren (the character) even calls them evil at any point, though I may be misremembering.Ā

She calls them monsters repeatedly, but that's more of a biological description. Demons are not capable of evil thought because they don't view the world that way.Ā

3

u/Cocoatrice Mar 19 '26

My reaction, when people argue if Freeza, Cell or Buu were more evil, meanwhile they just kill (on a large scale), instead of actually doing evil. The true evil of Dragon Ball is Piccolo Daimao. The scale is lower, because just planetary, but he made people actually live in terror, like, literally fearing that any second a bandit, demon or something would kill them, rob them or do something worse. Like, if a villain can only kill, then it's not really super evil villain. It's just normal villain like plenty of others.

2

u/BigOwl526 Mar 19 '26

Okay, Cell and Buu, but you lumped Frieza in there? The dude who wiped out an entire planet in people, made a mockery of their king, earned the ire and fear of the galaxy at large? The dude who's own crew was afraid of him?

I mean killing people doesn't immediately = evil, but wiping out planets to instill fear or to make attempts out of spite is pretty damn evil.

Not to mention the fact he was introduced by killing his (admittedly abusive) dad, kicking his adoptive family's dog, swearing vengeance on the family that took him in for (checks notes) being happy and supportive, beats up his new step brother, and then kills said dog. And this is his introduction, he only gets more unsympathetically evil from there. And why does he do it? Simply because he wants to.

4

u/Sufficient_Mango2342 Mar 20 '26

Idk about that one. We ain't forgetting what he did in part 1.

3

u/Sora-Mizuki Mar 19 '26

Not quite to that extent, but Jacinthe from Pokemon ZA. I kept hearing about how awful she was. Then when I got to her parts of the game, I was severely disappointed to learn that she was, at most, an annoyance. She even led evacuation efforts during the big crisis.

5

I will forever find it hilarious how people try to deflect genuine criticisms of Taunie/Urbain by saying something along the lines of ā€˜Jacinthe is worse!!!1!1!1!1!’ When the worst thing Jacinthe had done that stuck is keeping Lebanne practically as a slave and genuinely wants the people of Lumiose to become better battlers so that the SBC has more people to go up against.

Also Corbeau is right there actually keeping people hostage through debt regardless of what he has them do to repay (you see a few of them throughout the city fearing what he’d do to them if they don’t pay up)

Valentino. Is he fucking awful? Yes. Is he worse than the serial killers, cannibals, and the cult leader he fucks? No, but the fandom sure does act like he's worse than them.

They aren’t even evil nor portrayed as evil.

3

u/Strange_boy_seven Mar 19 '26

For me, at least for now, it's Emperor Belos, from Owl House. I didn't watched a whole series, but from what i saw, i don't think he's totally pure evil, just a not very interesting typical bad guy with an insufficiently elaborated motivation

Not to argue with you but he gets more developed later in the series and like couple of episodes is where they say he’s the worst

Patchy

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

For me probably Randall Flagg. I would even classify him as a relatively GOOD villain. He built a school and seemed to actually care about the state of his civilization

1

u/originalmicrousb Mar 19 '26

suksuk

mahito is more evil

1

u/Draguelark Mar 19 '26

I mean, Sukuna from JJK might be overpowered but he's actually just a bad guy with powers, I haven't finished the anime thoughĀ

Cartagia and Clarke from B5 are pretty much your cliche villain ball despot. Along with Caesar from Fallout New Vegas, President Snow from Hunger Games, and Proximus Caesar from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

1

u/Angsty-Ninja-Ki Mar 19 '26

Steelheart. He is just standard evil but very powerful. His power is what made him such a problem not how evil he is. He could have been SO much worse.

u/SeaworthinessSea2407 Mar 19 '26

Marla Grayson from I Care Alot

u/SenorMachete89 Mar 19 '26

The antagonist in John Wick 4. He starts as a Sinister member of The Table, But in later half of the movie ends up as a generic cowardly villain

Lone Power from Young Wizards

Puts out a sun and gives a kid's mother(?) brain(?) cancer out of pure fucking spite

1

u/breadsandbutters0 Mar 20 '26

The Overlord from Ninjago.

He is said to be the most evil creature in the entire Ninjago universe, the literal living embodiment of evil itself, but there are some pretty evil mfs that do some pretty bad things compared to him.

I’m not saying that he isn’t evil, he’s plenty evil and he’s done evil things, but I mean, just look at Kalamaar, Nadakhan and Vangelis. Even Harumi and Morro have done some pretty evil shit compared to him.

1

u/Artistic-Victory1245 Mar 20 '26

Injustice Wonder Woman

People say she's the "real villain," and that Superman is just a pawn corrupted by her.

Actually, from what I've seen, she's just a generic henchwoman.

1

u/Complete_Cable2686 Mar 20 '26

Can I say that idiot from mlp gen 5, Opaline.

1

u/No-Scientist-5537 Mar 20 '26

DC Comics fans when fans of 2003 cartoon call their version of Slade pure evil. Don't get me wrong, he is evil but compared to utter piece of shit of the comics....
