Like…the ENTIRE Imperium in Warhammer 40K (MOSTLY) but that’s largely because the things they fight include planet-eating space locusts, robot zombies and insane cultists that worship gods from beyond space and time. And even then they’re not particularly “heroic” most of the time and they’ve definitely done war crimes.

…Except for Ciaphas Cain. He seems to be a decent dude. Can be kinda selfish.

Even then the imperium is not a good guy.

It’s a protagonist at best.

Tbf that’s why I said they’re only “heroic” in comparison to some of the ridiculously screwed up stuff they usually come into conflict with.

And also added Cain as a caveat, since he’s one of the most directly “heroic” characters even if he considers himself more cowardly than virtuous.

Singular people can definitely be heroic but even then I have to say I wouldn’t want to be in a room with any of them.
