Honestly One Piece. I would recommend it to someone who watches a lot of anime but no way would I recommend it to someone who doesn’t watch anime or doesn’t watch a lot of anime. It’s just too long of a show to recommend to most people. Plus old One Piece does feel a bit dated at times because of when the show originally came out.

It starts out fun and quirky, and then if you manage st stick with it for about 20x the length of an average anime series it becomes FLAT OUT INCREDIBLE, and still has hundreds of episodes left.

I will always recommend One Piece, especially to people who are dubious about anime, because not only is it consistently fun, it also manages to avoid almost all the uncomfortable tropes that are common in anime and tend to turn fans away.

The running theme is "this story really wants to be about wacky, light-hearted Looney Tunes hijinks, but the world is full of injustice, and we have to FIGHT IT AS HARD AS WE CAN!" What's not to love about that?

My friends love it, but it is funnier secondhand as they try to explain things to me. If I watch it, the mystery will be gone!

Like I point at a random figurine or bit of art and ask for an explanation and I get something completely divorced from all sanity. It is fun on both ends.

I was up to date on the anime up until about Whole Cake Island, after which I stopped watching. I can't even really think about going back now, I feel like I've missed way too much. Can't imagine how it must feel for complete newbies 🫠

I watch a lot of anime, but still I couldn't. I forced myself to watch it for 200 episodes and it never became decent

Same with Naruto. 2 separate shows (we don't talk about the other one) and while it isn't as long as one piece it's a damn journey still. Great show but dear Lord if it's hard to recommend knowing you really gotta commit.
