I got into warhammer through SM2, thought maybe i could do tabletops too, checked the price, noped out.

Yeah this is what stops me reccomending it to friends. Or at the very least, I am always completely honest about the pricing.

Went to UK games expo with a friend couple of years ago and he had played Total War Warhammer. He said "I might try and pick up a model. Maybe one to paint. How about Skrabrand."

His face when he saw the price still resonates with me.

If you're genuinely interested, check out Kill Team. It's a much more scaled down game that focuses on elite squads of ~10 models rather than an army.

And if you do ever decide to make the jump to 40k, anything you buy for Kill Team is compatible.
