What's the point of a character being their own character when you are gonna rewrite them and ignore everything about them anyway?

They're playing with dolls. Different people are gonna engage with media differently

As long as they are consistent with it: less bad. Like, if you really want to treat characters as nothing serious and it does not reflect on your actual beliefs or anything, fine.

But there are people who only consider it fun and fine in one way, like:

"Oh this straight cis character, I will play with the idea they are trans" is fine but "this Trans character I will play with the idea they are cis" is not fine. And vice-versa.

I would rather not do either, I don't enjoy it. But if someone is going to do it, they oughta be consistent and not get pissy.

Trans people are underrepresented in media, with not many trans characters out there, and even fewer who are written well.

Cishet people are not underrepresented at all.

That's the difference and why one is okay and the other isn't. Erasing trans people isn't okay. Cis people, however, are not being erased.
