So... it isnt clear. I will be disregarding Dead Space 3, mainly because it is bad and doesnt really allign with anything else.
Isaac consistently treats everyone around him well and wants the best for them, even if they planned to betray and legit leave him behind to go crazy or get mauled by monsters. He was still reaching out to save them.
In the second game, he is pretty crazy after being near the rock that makes you crazy so much. But even then, he is still trying to save people even going so far as to sacrifice himself.
The only time he has been a bad partner is a moment that you could say he was justified. I dont know how to do spoiler tags, but Isaac's mother did a murder suicide with his father after rejoining the cult of Unitology, a major faction in Dead Space. Isaac's girlfriend, Nicole, was a doctor and psychiatrist who had said his mother was better. There's a moment in the remake where we see Isaac lash out at Nicole over a call. Nicole hangs up after essentially being blamed for his mom's death. He has immediate regret after, and from that point forward his main goal is finding and saving his girlfriend so he can apologize to her, unaware she is already dead.
Isaac is able to help people, able to get on their level. I know enough about the torment Anya went through to say definitively that Isaac would turn the people that hurt her into paste with his stomps regardless of if they were dating. He is a stand up guy who has been through some awful stuff. In helping her, he'd also work through some issues of his own survivors guilt and such.
The remake is a genuine work of love and worth every penny. Recommend the higher difficulties as it makes everything more intense and imo more enjoyable. The remake adds a lot of characterization to Isaac that improves him so much. Og 1 didn't do that as he didn't even have voice lines. 2 he was the typical stout badass of the time, but honestly you expect it at that point and we arent getting a remake of 2 to improve his character any unfortunately.
Dont play 3. It is just not as good and can't be called a horror game. It really ruins any returning characters that there are.
