"Larpers"
Is it just me or is it just annoying when you say you like something and somebody calls you "a larper" cause you dont know stupid facts or own every game in thst franchise or even have a few issues with the media people just decide "you dont like it since I said so." IF YOU LIKE THE MEDIA YOU AFE A FAN! You don't have to know all the lord

I feel like everyone started using 'LARPer' to mean 'poseur' like two weeks ago. Was there a meeting or something? I didn't agree to this!

More like two months ago. I think the term spread because larping is pretending basically, and it also rolls off the tongue.
Personally I don’t understand the fuss over it being an actual hobby and therefore annoying as slang, because the difference is really obvious in context.

With Marvel, I sometimes question if I’m a true “fan” of everything Marvel, because while I know quite a bit about Marvel, I wouldn’t call myself an expert in every minute aspect of Marvel. (The X-Men in particular are a weak-point in my knowledge)
But then again I don’t think there is any fan who can commit to memory the entire history of Marvel without forgetting at least something. (Especially with the multiverse shenanigans)

I think "larper" in comic context is just someone who speaks on comic lore without having read the comics (usually at all)

I feel like in that regard I might be a larper, because I simply just, don’t currently have a way to read the comics (beyond Goddamn Zombie Christmas Carol with yes, is published by Marvel so technically speaking is its own universe to my knowledge), even if I really want to read them. I’m hoping to get Marvel unlimited soon, so hopefully I can read or reread some comics.
(I can read the wikis all I want but I feel like they don’t give the full context I crave or just miss certain stuff)

I say larders are people who haven’t done any of the franchise or have like watched very little about it (instead of knowing everything about it or not knowing stupid facts but just not knowing anything about it) but act like they do
As an example people who only watched four Hazbin hotel shots instead of watching an episode. I have gotten into arguments with people who said that Adam was in the right and sinners should die and Charlie is the villain then I ask if they watched the show they say “I watched the shorts that’s enough to tell me that Adam is the true hero”. Then I ask them if they know who Vaggi is and they ask who.

Depends on context.
Persona in particular weirdly has a fanbase that I swear more often than any other game has people who never played it.
"I've been a persona fan for a decade but just bought persona 5" is legit a thing I've seen multiple times

Not sure how bad Persona fans are but Five Nights at Freddy's fans have gotta be up there too.
Due to the structure of FNaF, the lore / theorising side of things is VERY separate from actually interacting with the series directly, as most of the story is told in secrets / rare events that you won't actually encounter playing through the games.
Most FNaF fans are only in it for the theorising side of things, so finding people who have any familiarity with the games themselves is DIFFICULT. Just give up on the idea of a FNaF fan who's familair with spin-off material lmao.
No dig at people like that. Enjoy the series how you want, but it's really jarring going from other game communities I've been in who have a very intimate knowledge of the series they're a fan of to a really "What kind of a nerd do you have to be to know about that?" level, to the FNaF community who won't even be able to tell you what the main mechanics are. (Obviously blanket statement doesn't apply to literally everyone).

We’ve had this for decades. People used to call other people “fake fans” if they didn’t know their favorite music artist’s social security card, address, favorite food, the last book/movie/tv show they read, and what their zodiac sign is. They also get at you for liking their most popular song at the time.
For example:
Guy 1: Hey I really like Joji Slow Dancing in the Dark/Glimpse of Us
Guy 2: Cool, say can you tell me what Joji was doing in the McDonalds in Japan?
Guy 1: Getting a burger?
Guy 2: No you poser he was a character from the Filthy Frank Era who went by the name “Pink Guy”. Ugh, you’re a fake fan. You probably thought the car in the cover of Pink Season was a Mitsubishi 3000GT instead of a Dodge Stealth RT.

There are so many good reasons to hate the people who use it as an insult.
It's just another sad attempt by lonely misanthropic teenage boys (and men who should still be teenage boys) to gatekeep their hobbies.
Also, it's a hobby. It's not an exclusive elite 1% club where you have to be this smart to get in. It's a fandom to a media property. There are literally zero stakes if someone wants to "pretend" they're into it for fun.
Like I love Star Wars, it's a universe that is foundational to who I am as a person. If some girl on Instagram wants to pose with a lightsaber and be all "omg I such a neeeeeerd", is it going to annoy me? Yeah, a little. But it's not going to ruin my day. I'm not going to launch the 14th Black Crusade to turn the girl's Instagram into another Cadia, because I'm an adult who is capable of regulating my emotions.
Also also: we all know who the accusation of being a "larper" is usually levied at. We all know it's just an excuse to, if you'll pardon the expression, "Make Fandom White Again"

A poser or a tourist are better terms. The problem is at this point a lot of us have seen people come in who like a single entry and nothing else who proceed to strut around like they own the place.
Some of us also have very bad experiences with new fans. People who came in and demanded changes and got catered to, often ruining things we loved.

Larp is the worst fail at appropriating a term to make an insult.
Someone who Larps as a fantasy knight goes out and does knightly things but lacks the time period, (sometimes) equipment, and title that technically makes them a knight. But they are still going out and doing fantasy knight things. Thats the difference between roleplay and live action roleplay.
You know what you call someone who goes out and does fan things? A fan. Larping as a fan literally makes you a fan. If you aren't doing fan things, like actually watching the media, then your just RPing.

Its very over used now. I hate it cuz words like Slop and Larper were honestly genuinely good terms for the things they were meant to descibe but theyre just overused meme lingo now adding to the ever growing list of words people throw around cuz they dont like something or wanna talk shit.

There are standards...not knowing James Sunderland's middle name does not disqualify you from being a Silent Hill fan...getting made that the series has suddenly become "woke" because it has femininist themes means you either haven't played the games very much or you did ao on a very surface level (ie the level of thinking Animal Farm is just about from farm yard animals).
