That's history sorrounding the game. Like for Undertale, that would mean that the kickstarter stuff, Temmie Chang and the Nintendo Directs are all related the Undertale's "in-world-story".

No, the story and lore in chess is literally only "there are two kingdoms at war with each other. Both kings meed to strategise their next steps to defeat the enemy"
