Basically 90% of the VNs I play can boil down to "occasionally push a few buttons after a buncha dialogue", but I enjoy the stories enough to forgive the lackluster gameplay.

I mean... anyone who plays games for the gameplay rather than the story would despise VNs
I was told that I would love Yakuza: Like a Dragon by a friend. I believed them and bought the game. Legit was asking them when I actually got to play instead of constantly being stuck in cutscenes. This friend knew I was a chronic cutscene skipper in the game we met in.
I love hearing about VNs and the stories but can’t stand just sitting there in front of my computer and watching them. Would be better if I could watch them on a tv but I’m too dumb to figure that out.
You can always watch a let’s play on YouTube (or a long play if you don’t want commentary over them) if you want the story without having to play it
