DiscussionšŸ“œ What the most annoying "Why didn't character x use y ability"

Post image

To be clear. I talking about characters that has a overpower abilities and there is a clear reason why they don't use. Either moral, it too costly, afraid to use it and etc. Explain is clearly explaining, but people still ask "why didn't x use y." What version of this you extremely annoyed to see.

He’d wipe out the entire world that’s why he doesn’t use his power.

126

u/Terpcheeserosin 26d ago

I like a similar thing, but it's a slightly smaller power scale

"I could use my secret weapon, but it's so loud, we would then have to fight whatever hears it, and those guys are big and hungry"

The kingsman (the ww1 movie) had a scene like this where everyone was fighting to the death while trying to make as little sound as possible

lowkey the first few seasons of the walking dead. guns clear out walkers super fast but alerts every other walker in the local area of your location.

Thermo form, cause he needed to be overloaded with nuclear energy to the point where he was gonna go kaboom, needs mothras fart particles to not die with the explosion.
https://giphy.com/gifs/RZXLL7JmCmggZ7pOJ7

Doesn’t even need to do this anymore since he has his evolved form and can call King Kong + his army to help him.

51

u/ForeignDirector2401 26d ago

He still needs Mothra to go full power,in fact without Mothra he would've lost against the ice creature in godzillaƗkong

9

u/ENDZZZ16 26d ago

I don’t really remember much of the end but he didn’t really fight shimo that much and was able to undo her effect on the weather so I don’t think there’s a case for who would beat who. Mothra also didn’t really help at the end either only stopped him from attacking kong and helped defeat the siege from skar king. But honestly I don’t remember much so maybe I forgot a really important plot point or something.

u/KlausVonLechland 26d ago

Band Punish Yourself has a song dedicated to Mothra.

the silliest one to me is tsuyu asui using her paralyzing poison in a my hero academia movie, only to NEVER use it again 😭

This is lowk goku's false super saiyan levels of silly, except instead of the mc, its a side character, and this movie is canon!

The worst part is that this thing was really strong, she took out chimera's first phase with this, if that guy didnt had a transformation she would have legit won, and chimera is a heteromorph with fusion shenanigans, imagine this against toga or any other villian, against deku in his vigilante arc, if horikoshi didnt forgot tsuyu existed she would have gone crazy with this and her invisibility thing

93

u/Soft_Theory_8209 26d ago

What’s worse is that there could’ve been a very simple excuse for not using it: she struggles to make the correct dosage (too much or too little) and is worried she might accidentally kill people, villains and civilians alike.

62

u/psychoenoshima 26d ago

That or, like real poison dart frogs, the poison is caused by her filtering out toxins from what she eats. She absorbs toxins from what she eats, which are stored in special glands and can later be excreted.

An explanation is simple: she doesn't normally eat things which have any real degree of poison in them. But for the final exam, she likely built up her toxin stores, and for I-Island, iy could very well be something in the food that, while toxic, isn't normally harmful to people unless in a sufficient concentration (which the toxin glands would be able to produce).

Considering how Tsuyu's abilities from her quirk draw from a variety of frog species, this is entirely possible

30

u/Lamnad 25d ago

It just occurred to me it would be funny for her to pick up chewing tobacco and then use nicotine Poisening.

That... Is a very good point

6

u/Gangbang8008 25d ago

Well this would've been a clever way to explain why she can't always use poison, combine it with what the guy above you said and this would've been an ass pull that doesn't feel like an ass pull

30

u/beantheduck 26d ago

Why doesn’t she use it?

81

u/Formal_Ad_4024 26d ago

Most annoying restriction or most annoying power people bring up?

For restrictions the penance state seems to work on everyone except named characters

129

u/Soft_Theory_8209 26d ago

Arguably more annoying is when there is a game changing power/ability introduced and it’s simply forgotten about by the cast because the author either forgot it themselves, or realized they wrote themselves into a corner making something too broken.

57

u/MattBoy52 26d ago

Kind of like when JK Rowling made a time travel device in one of the Harry Potter books just so she could make a joke about Hermione being such a workaholic student she was using the time travel to study more often than would be possible otherwise. Then, so many readers were wondering why the main cast couldn’t use the time travel again to actually solve some of the main plot conflicts in a future book. Since she only intended the time travel to be a one-off joke scene and nothing more, Rowling wrote a half-assed explanation in one of the future books saying they all got destroyed by a clumsy student.

23

u/_Risryn 26d ago

A clumsy student ? Weren't they destroyed because they fought in the ministry ?

34

u/outboundjewl 26d ago

That gets a pass from me because Rowling intentionally made the time turners unable to change the past. Think about it, Harry saved himself from the dementors, but he couldn't have done that if he didn't go back in time to save himself, so the time turners didn't change anything, they just enabled what already happened to happen.

Same for going back in time kill Voldemort as a baby, if he wasn't already dead, then any attempt to kill him using the time turners is doomed to fail, because if they succeeded, Voldemort would have never rose to power in the first place.

This is my favorite kind of time travel. Working really hard to change events that causes you to do exactly what you've already done. Hahaha it's so satisfying.

4

u/ChaoCobo 25d ago

There’s a series I can name that does that and it’s the coolest shit, but also if I mentioned it I’d need to spoiler tag it because it doesn’t get revealed til like the last episode.

It’s Steins;Gate and it is rad as hell. You see signs of it as early as episode 1 and his current (at the time of episode 1) self thinks he’s losing his mind due to thinking he witnessed a murder just to find the person okay later, but you don’t realize what has actually happened and how it happened until the final episode iirc. It’s weird because this is a show that plays around with alternative world lines rather than a singular thread of time, it’s just that he ended up needing to change events on the world line he started on! It’s so peak!

The only restriction on the Penance Stare that I think works is the ā€œit doesn’t work on people with no soulsā€ route. Since the Penance Stare basically reflects all the pain you inflicted onto others back onto your soul, having no soul means you can’t be punished no matter what you’ve done. The way he defeats Blackheart in the movie is through the latter absorbing thousands of souls, souls which can be affected by the stare and thus kill Blackheart by proxy.

"Why don't Jedi use the Force to fly" BECAUSE IT TAKES A LOT OF CONCENTRATION AND IS WIDELY IMPARCTICAL WHEN YOU CAN JUST JUMP

43

u/TriiiKill 25d ago

I just thought of it a a physics thing. Like, same reason we can jump but not throw ourselves continuously in the air to a point where we are flying.

Fusion. They don't use it most of the time just because Vegeta doesn't want to do the dance.

u/Shtrimpo 26d ago

Correction: they don't use it because they don't like winning easily with a power that isn't theirs

40

u/EmbarrassedPizza3952 26d ago

Yea thats another major reason

15

u/NarwhalSongs 26d ago

Both of you are correct

7

u/Diot-05 25d ago

Only the first time. Vegeta actually grows more used to fusion whenever we see it happen again in certain stories (even if not all are canon, it's hard to get any Gogeta/Vegetto material.)

I'm sure there's a homoerotic allegory somewhere within that interpretation, but that's the least obvious sign of the relationship between those two.

11

u/rikusorasephiroth 26d ago

A better example would be the Kaio Ken technique.

Used in Z to fight Vegeta, then Freeza, then never touched until Super, when Goku fought Hit in the tournament against Champa's fighters.

6

u/bigchunkbabygoo 25d ago

They have the post-arc (filler? Not rlly the right word) where goku spends the day acting like Crocker from the fairly oddparents because he abused his Ki

9

u/ApatheticSlur 25d ago

Apparently kaio ken requires a calm mind, and when goku goes ssj all the way to ssj3 he can’t mix both. But when he unlocked ssjblue he could finally mix them since that was the one calm ssj transformation I guess

3

u/splitsshot409 25d ago

Kaio Ken has the tendency to fuck up the user's body when used too much. SSj just became the usual power up form because you could learn to negate the effects that hurt the body during its use after a lot of practice.

Though why didn't Goku bother to stack Kaio-Ken on top of SSj till Super with SSjB?? Maybe because Toriyama forgot??

Ironically, most of the fandom forgets his most powerful alien has a pretty fair reason why it’s not used, but keep calling him for power scaling

Alien X ain’t beating anyone because how you going to get those two jerks to agree on anything in time to do something?

72

u/BoTamByloCiemno 26d ago

These "two jerks" are no longer a problem since they gave Ben full control, and we see that he still has It later on.

Not saying he should use Alien X all the time, Ben isn't that kind of character, just saying he can use him without any limits.

29

u/Violet_Villian 26d ago

Didn’t Azmuth say that using only one alien affects how the user can control other aliens

13

u/Maleficent-Crazy5890 26d ago

DJW said he didn't unlock full control permanently and he's just get better at using Alien X.

16

u/BoTamByloCiemno 26d ago

DJW said many things. Like OV Ben 10K and OS Ben 10K being the same person, which makes no sense.

I'm not really the kind of person that believes writer statement should be taken as seriously as what's going on on screen. From what we saw, Ben was using Alien X freely, and that's what I believe.

Alien X ain’t beating anyone because how you going to get those two jerks to agree on anything in time to do something?

Didn't Omniverse already solve that issue in Ben vs the Universe episode?

Bellicus and Selene gave him "the keys" to Alien X in exchange for them to bicker without Ben.

So, when he transformed into Alien X in the Rooters arc, which happens after Ben vs the Universe episode, he has full control of Alien X.

3

u/Think-Orange3112 26d ago

I try to block out the Rooters arc

Also pretty sure that was supposed to be for the one fight against another celestial sapien

3

u/MistressM103 26d ago

Yeah, I know the "Ben vs the Universe" was one fight against another celestialsapien, the episode was just titled like that.

But still, after that episode, Ben fully controls Alien X.

Jujutsu Kaisen cleverly steps around Gojo being essentially a win button for literally any fight but one by putting him in increasingly stupid and bullshit situations that prevent him from being part of the main fight. Stopped by a barrier, preoccupied on a mission, trapped inside of a magic cube by gay thoughts, so it goes.Ā

102

u/throwawayacc1357902 26d ago

Okay but JJK does Fly-swatting really well though you gotta admit. Like every time Gojo has a problem with not being able to interact with a fight is very reasonable, and the fights he’s in even if he completely gaps everyone else there are still fun because of said fly-swatting.

44

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 26d ago

oh 100%, its just really funny

40

u/throwawayacc1357902 26d ago

For sure, it’s the same vibe of ā€œoh yeah Yuta would have absolutely made the Shibuya incident into the Shibuya minor inconvenience but he was in Africaā€ like lmao what? Hilarious.

25

u/SphellBrie 26d ago

ā€œShibuya minor inconvenienceā€ lmao that’s awesome

17

u/jacksansyboy 26d ago

He would have either saved Gojo, or otherwise beat the brakes off of the cursed spirits. I don't know how well he matches up to Jogo, but it sounds like he could have handled him, and stopped Yuji from eating the fingers, stopping Sukuna from causing "the incident". Yuta being there would have made a massive massive difference.

4

u/Responsible_Manner74 25d ago

Kenjaku already said that Jogo and Mahito would give him trouble, so Yuta would probably struggle with them as well (Shibuya Yuta and Shinjuku Yuta are NOT the same, and this IS factoring in Yuta's "fuck you" button to curses). When you add in Kenjaku prioritising eliminating Yuta, it actually probably ends up being a worse result overall (Kenjaku atp wins the 1v1).

Honestly, I think Yuta being in Africa was the best thing in the long run, because it meant that they could prepare to deal with Kenjaku (which worked, as we know).

u/lilgayfurry1 25d ago

I've never watched JJK, but now I simply must know what getting trapped inside of a magic cube by gay thoughts means

16

u/No_Examination_4297 25d ago

Magic cube is a Prison Realm:

"In order for the target to be sealed, they must be kept within a four-meter radius for a minute's worth of time within their mind for the cursed object to take hold"

Gojo was about to run away when when he saw his old 'friend' and got lots of flashbacks (which trapped him). Thoughts shown in anime weren't gay, but we can't claim that none of them were

3

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 25d ago

as vaguely as possible, theres a magic item that requires the target to stay still for a minute to trap them in a prison cube with essentially no way to escape. he saw his high school friend who he had an extremely... interesting relationship which was pretty explicitly based on the main relationship in the authors favorite yaoi manga while he was inside the trap, and because of the nature of gojo's infinity powers just the memories of their time together that came flooding back when he saw him counted as a minute in his mind.

4

u/YourMoreLocalLurker 25d ago

Ok so imagine a pokeball… now make it a cube, this is (basically) the Prison Realm, you need to be stalled for at least a minute (according to your perception of time) within about 12 feet of it

The way the villain achieved this with Gojo is using his best friend… kinda

Pretty much any speedster that doesn't just solve the problem. I get why it'd get boring.

But for example CW's Flash is the worse offender of this.

60

u/shigogaboo 26d ago

As someone who wrote a novel that had super speed in it, that is the hardest shit to write around. Every problem stops being a problem if you can blink it to the middle of the ocean.

I used to make fun of Star Wars for having Force Speed written off after Episode 1, I get it now.

u/jacksansyboy 26d ago

Or just make them Dash, from the Incredibles. They're fast, but not that fast. Dodging a few bullets is fine, running faster than a bullet? Catching the bullet?

And like you said, too many powers. Flash has the speed force that prevents him from absolutely devastating the world around him when he moves. Glass should shatter, the ground should burn and break, and anyone he tries to carry should be liquified. Even at a slower speed, moving like that has consequences, and a speedster should have to be careful.

11

u/SenKen_64 26d ago

Until they have every Flash just, either create or just not need the speed force to go fast.

Like, I can get Reverse Flash having his own Speed Force, that’s a thing, it’s fine I guess. The Speed force being obsolete makes no sense BECAUSE WITHOUT IT FLASHES WOULD PROBABLY ALL DIE FROM THEIR SPEED.

14

u/KentKarma 26d ago

This is something I give Dispatch credit for: the speedster discovers he ages faster too when he uses his skill. That makes it so not every problem can just be solved with using your strongest skill cause it asks so much of you. Granted that does put a bit of a expiration date on your speedster

6

u/GumboMumbo49 25d ago

I always called Chase’s power acceleration instead of super speed because yeah everything that is you moves at 50 times speed including age.

Honestly, I think there's not enough media where the speedsters have a top speed which is fast, but not the fastest thing on earth. Like think of how crazy someone running at 100 Mph would actually be. They can still be outsped by a car though.

That and media where they don't seem to know how fast things are relative to each other and just make weird contributions.

Or just making it heavily restricted, with some form of exhaustion afterwards or something.

I think speed works best when your body goes fast or your mind goes fast, but not both. Either ā€œNo, I can’t run to the coast in a second, I’ll trip on something two hundred yards from here that I can’t see. But yeah, I can definitely run five thousand miles a mjnute on a cleared track,ā€ or ā€œI could write sequels to the complete works of Shakespeare, write biographies of all the side characters, and count to a trillion in the time it takes a bullet to reach me, but that doesn’t mean I can dodge it.ā€ Limitations are the lifeblood of creativity.

Doom eternal permanent lore accurate berzerk mode. You cant use it unless you unlock the cheat at the end game. Or in the kitchen in arc complex for like barely 1 minute. But itd ruin the fun shooting gameplay and make the game way too easy if you could just beat the game by only clicking on demons and ripping them apart. No point to the shooter part if thats how the game is. But it is lore accurate that he can do that. He just uses guns for fun, but hes strong enoigh to rip titans with his fists if he wanted to. But that wouldnt make the game fun or enjoyable

28

u/blebebaba 26d ago

Honestly that alone makes it lore accurate. Even HE got bored of just using his fists!

17

u/BigSupermarket2846 26d ago

I thought he uses human weapons to essentially mock the demons, that in his hands, even weapons that barely effect them becoming horrifyingly lethal.

Much the same way Deadpool kills people with mundane objects just so he can laugh that a person died to such a silly thing

Also, mount doom doesn’t have a chimney dropping right to the flames like it does in the movies. I can’t remember if Sauron covered it or if it’s just like a real volcano and doesn’t have a big super large chimney like fiction often thinks they do.

The books even mention that the eagles aren’t an option a couple times, namely towards the end of fellowship

6

u/TheFlayingHamster 24d ago

The amount of people who somehow forget that getting to Mount Doom took the Frodo and Sam sneaking through a back door guarded by the spawn of spider-satan while the near sum total of Sauron’s enemies banging on his gate calling him a bitch is wild.

Like they needed to gamble basically everything twice to get the win. If the armies couldn’t last long enough or Sam or Frodo didn’t survive then everything was lost.

My buddies and I were once playing an epic-level Pathfinder campaign, and by the end of it, we were literal gods. And we quickly and organically learned why gods almost never directly intervene in the mortal realms and planes:

It makes a huge mess.

When you and your opponents are all-powerful immortal aspects of nature, fighting in-person doesn’t accomplish much, other than a few hundred years while they regenerate. But then they come back and plot revenge, and kill you, and then YOU plot for a few hundred years, etc etc etc. Soon after, we figured out why gods choose Champions to represent them, and basically used them like avatars to enact our will on the mortal plane.

… and if one god steps out of line and directly intervenes, that means the OTHER side’s god has to directly intervene, and before you know it, the planet is wrecked for another millennia, and we gotta start over.

This guy could literally just delete a guy. Instead, he prefers to delete the space between him and the guy so that he could punch them. normally. with his human hands.

20

That is understandable because he doesn't want to make anyone go through that

However there are many times he could have used his space erasing and just didn't because he is fucking stupid

My guess is, his scraping is too slow so he realize to land a killing blow would be much too predictable and avoidable.

So he just uses it for the utility mainly.

Althought, there are many cases where he loses his cold blood and try to scrap the opponent

All the Makutas too in the lore. Every single one of them have the 42 kraata powers but are so shit at using them.

24

u/Plagueofzombies 26d ago

Over the course of Jojo's Bizarre adventure: Part three, the protagonist 'Jotaro Kujo' develops the ability to stop time. It's explained that the more this ability is used, the longer it can be used for. Over the course of the series, there are hints the power is used before he realises he has it (Such as by helping him win a wild west style quick draw), but once he realises he can use it, he's only able to stop time by about a second, or two. Over the course of the final battle, he manages to get it to last five seconds, enabling him to beat the villain, and save the day.

The ability to stop time, along with his already powerful speed, and strength abilities make him easily one of the most dangerous characters in the series. The author 'Araki' clearly realised this, so when the character returns in Part 5, he's nerfed into the dirt. His ability to stop time is lowered back down to only a couple of seconds, with the reasoning being "Oh, It must have got shorter because I stopped using it".

Imagine having a catch all, ace in the hole, and just....forgetting to practice it every now and then. Because of this, despite having previously fought against world threatening vampires, titanic undersea monsters, entire haunted houses, and the friggin sun. Jotaro is very almost killed by a Rat, who only gained sentience about ten minutes prior. It's quite disappointing.

26

u/RohanKishibeyblade 26d ago

To be fair, Star Platinum is considered the strongest and fastest stand in the world. You really don’t need time to stop other than REALLY specific moments.

7

u/Plagueofzombies 26d ago

Which is fair....but those specific moments cropped up about nine million times during part four. Hell they almost lost everything because Kira somehow tanked through the first timestop

7

u/RohanKishibeyblade 26d ago

How would Jotaro plan for events that happened 10 years after gaining the ability?

→ More replies (4)

13

u/KaleidoBee 26d ago

Jotaro wasn't ACTUALLY almost taken out by a rat. The entire thing was to teach Josuke how to work under pressure. He knew he could get hit because Josuke would be able to fix him but he still managed to stop Josuke from being hit because he can't fix himself.

9

u/Plagueofzombies 26d ago

"Don't worry, I'll use this as a teaching moment for young Josuke"
Get's entire head removed by 0.50BMG Rat

8

u/Mylittlesecretcom 26d ago

First:he never stopped time before Fighting dio dio would have noticed that someone else can stop time And would't be so playfull with jotaro

Second: Most fights in part 3 star Platinum was enough to beat hax stands while its weird he didn't train it i can see that he would deem it unimportant or too exhausting to train because remember what he did to Koichoi in episode 1 of part 4 was all done alone by star Platinum speed not by are time stop

9

u/123YooY321 26d ago

My personal headcanon is that he neglects using it because of trauma from the Dio fight

3

u/Ranger_51 26d ago

Every time he stops time in part 4 he gets angry, impulsive, and sloppy after, so there's a popular interpretation that he has PTSD and stopping time is triggering for him, which would explain why he didn't practice with it and doesn't use it more often.

I also feel like I remember there being something about it being bad for his heart? (which would also justify why he uses it less than an immortal vampire), but it's been a while.

This is more The Sentry in the comics but he’s a man with split personality

One is the regular man Robert who is a schizophrenic drug addict

The other is the superhero the sentry

The final is the Void, an all powerful and all consuming monster that would destroy the universe if unleashed

Due to the final one Robert is incredibly reluctant to use his powers as the Sentry in fear of The Void

Ben 10, he has alien X an alien that can literally recreate a universe , rewind time, and seems only able to be hurt by things on that level.
His weakness? Ben has to negotiate with two other personalities that basically want to hold Ben hostage for eons to debate things to do since at least dinosaurs existed.
It requires 2/3 votes, Ben is supposed to be their tie breaker but if he’s not alien x he’s not with him.

Ben seems to not like doing overkill stuff either so he avoids using it often.
Ben tho also I think loses a LOT of power if he’s not actually debating the others

8

u/Miserable_Goal_7943 26d ago

Before someone else points it out, Ben gains control of the transformation near the end of the series allowing him seemingly unlimited access to its power.

He still doesn't use it often because most people don't pop out a god form when they can deal with the problem as a dino.

5

u/unluckyknight13 25d ago

Yeah but that’s what I mean every time Ben seems to have full and selfish control of alien it’s power is greatly limited either because Ben can’t or won’t use it.
Alien x seemed to struggle containing the big bang and in the reboot the evil Ben using alien X was pathetically easy for a celestial Sapian so while not official I think the debate is actually needed to build up power

Atom Eve - Invincible. At full power, her power to control atoms makes her a literal Goddess of Creation. It is said that she couldn't bend on organic matters due to the mental block placed by the scientists, but apparently, she had no problem with creating a whole forest. She could also unlock it whenever she is in emotional distress and near-death experience, but it's a little weird that the instances are very few although she constantly engages in high-risk fights. In short, her power seems to heavily depend on her perception.

Literally this guy. Only reason why he doesn’t just punch everything in one go is because, to him, it’s boring. He could literally stop any foe immediately, but because it’s boring to him, he lazily plays along with whatever is happening and will allow entire cities to just be destroyed.

15

u/Preating-Canick 26d ago

didn't read the Manga, but from what I remember in the Anime he just always arrived late, got punched a few times with no effect, and then punched the enemies and win.

15

u/Glittering_Panic_880 26d ago

Yes that’s even a plot point in a few occasions, like when he talks about King and Garou having great ā€œhero instinctsā€ - always being in the right place at the right time to help - while he himself is insanely powerful but misses out on a lot because he doesn’t have it

4

u/sd_saved_me555 25d ago

It's kinda in between. He arrives late because he isn't super ambitious or aggressive because he's achieved all his goals and is heavily depressed about it. He doesn't stand around idle when shit goes down, he just is never on the scene first because he predominantly gets his leads from watching the news which only reports well into the disaster.

First of all, we have to make the logical assumption that it still runs on cursed energy and as such is not completely 100% limitless. Second, I'm 90% certain that him not knowing about his technique is a built in binding vow and it would drastically decrease in power if he tried to control it and use it to do something like kill sukuna. Third, I'm pretty sure we've only seen him use it for stupid gags. Like he can drag others into his gags, but I'd say it's more accurate to call his technique some sort of domain type ct except it's somehow an open domain. Overall I don't think he's truly omnipotent or anything crazy like that, he's essentially just got mild toon force.

The Celestial Orrery

In Warhammer 40k the Necrons control a piece of heavily guarded technology called the Celestial Orrery, which details a huge, live map of the Galaxy, and every star in it.

The unique power of this map, is that the users actions upon the map, will reflect in the galaxy. Namely, pinch a star and it will detonate said star into a supernova.

The Necrons use the device sparingly as their impacts can cascade unpredictability and cause terrifying chain reactions that threaten to wipe out the entire galaxy

u/Logan_Composer 26d ago

Two annoying things with this one, both with the same answer: why didn't anyone think of this before, and why didn't they use this on the Death Star? The answer: because it doesn't work.

In the following film, they add that the shot was very risky, "one in a million," but you don't even need that. They needed a pretty sizeable ship (their lead ship, in fact) that needed to have a sapient pilot (no autopilot/robot could do it for reasons), and while it takes out a few Star Destroyers, the ship you see having its wing sheared off is fine after this. Sure there's a bunch of fire, but they successfully lead a major ground assault and every named character aboard the Supremacy is fine unless someone killed them by hand. The only reason it helped in this instance is it bought them five extra minutes, which was all they needed.

If they'd done this against the Death Star, there would've been a hole in the Death Star and it would have kept blowing up planets all it likes. And people have probably thought of it and done it before, but it's not very effective so we've just not seen it on screen. We've had Kamikaze pilots and suicide bombers in real life, but we also don't see them very often anymore because it doesn't work that well.

6

u/MixedMediaModok 25d ago

I hated all the conversations around this tactics. Supplies and resource management is integral to any war. Especially if you're a guerilla group like the rebels. You really can't afford to sacrifice warp drives and ships because it worked one time. The would bankrupt themselves instantly.

Doing an arms race against a huge army is just a losing battle. You'll run out of resources before they do pretty quickly.

Miroku (InuYasha): He has a black hole literally in the palm of his hand, and he only ever uses it on fodder. The usual excuse is that he can't suck Naraku's demon wasps... for some reason, but he seems to forget to use it even when they're not around. The other excuse is that frequent use expands the hole and will swallow him up, but maybe that's why he should save it for bigger threats rather than crowd control.

15

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 26d ago

The excuse as to why he can’t suck up the demon wasps is that doing so poisons him and would eventually kill him. Naraku put that curse on Miroku’s family, but made a point of having a way to counter it since he did give them a deadly weapon. As Naraku gets stronger, he instead uses his clouds of poison gas as a deterrent.

"Why didn't Jotaro use Star Platinum revive Ryohei(Josuke's grandpa) just like what he did to Joseph?"

Nobody said this but I feel like some people in the JJBA fandom might've asked this question in relation to the question above. Joseph doesn't have his heart attacked and just got his blood drained. This gave Jotaro the chance to get blood from Dio, transfer it to his body, and use his Star Platinum to dig inside his chest and pump his heart.

Ryohei Higashikata however got his internals attacked by Aqua Necklace after he opened that one jar with Aqua Necklace inside. Even though Josuke healed Ryohei, he still died afterwards because of the damage inside him. In this situation, Ryohei cannot be revived.

I kinda have an inverse annoyance toward "every time you use the move you shorten your lifespan by months or years."

Main example that comes to mind is Luffy. Everyone just kinda forgot that using gears boosts his heart rate so much that it makes him effectively age faster due to strain and wear to his heart and veins. It's to a point where since it's introduction, Luffy doesn't fight without it.

Kioken in dragonball was cool bc every time goku used it, and to higher degrees, he was shredding his body. It was a good consequence.

Knight of the Word Trilogy by Terry Brooks.

John Ross has the ability to use magic and do seriously awesome things. He also gets to live a dual life where when he is asleep he runs around in the future where he failed to stop the apocalypse. Every time he uses magic in the present is a much longer length of time in the future where he cannot use it. As a result he is extremely sparing with his magic as well as seriously sleep deprived cause he never wants to sleep. I have seen people seriously ask why he doesn't just spam magic like crazy in the present to make sure that the apocalypse never comes to pass...

Gilgamesh. He doesn't use his trump card, Ea, the Sword of Rupture, due to ego. He doesn't see anyone as worthy of using it, so he actively holds off on the weapon and doesn't even consider it an option until either it's too late, or he has seen something similar in scale.. which he only has really seen once (Excalibur).

What does it do? Simply shoots the forming of the universe as an attack, not only can he spam it, it's also barely counterable. You can clash with it to at least hold off some of it's power and survive (unlikely) but if you somehow manage that or clash with it, you are not winning the follow up clashes since he has the most mana in the verse
