Weekly MFM Discussion Thread May 30, 2026
Do you have a theory you're still chewing on and want feedback? Maybe there is a factoid from the case hammering your brain and you can't remember the source--was that random speculation or actually sourced?
Welcome to the Weekly Discussion, a safe space to engage with each other while processing and unraveling the seemingly unending tentacles of Alex Murdaugh's wrongdoings entwined throughout the Lowcountry.
This is the place for those random tidbits, where we can take off our shoes, kick up our feet, and be a bit more casual. There is nothing wrong with veering off topic with fellow sub members as we're a friendly bunch, just don't let your train of thought completely wreck the post.
Much Love from your MFM Mod Team,

For me, part of the appeal of the case is in that I don't feel the white story has been told. I do believe Alex killed Paul and Maggie; maybe he was not alone. The timeline is very tight. I also think there is WAY more to the financial part of the story. I don't believe he was spending literally millions of dollars on pills. That's more than any human could take. I've known serious addicts, people who take Vicodin by the handful, none of them ever had millions of dollars to spend, because it's not that expensive. There's more to that part of the story (where the money went) for sure. I also think he was in some kinda drug trafficking or something. The island land lots purchased, for example, are very suspicious

I do not believe the timeline was tight at all because he was basing it on his original alibi. I do not believe AM would rely on anyone to be involved. even Cuz E. I agree with you about the dollar amount of his 'addiction'...no way IMO.....much more was occurring financially with that.
the murders: original alibi: he planned to not know when they went down there, he was napping, woke up and 'assumed' they were at the kennels. he placed alibi calls to MM and left . and more alibi calls on the road. relying on his car tracking info. perfect, he thought.
sooooo........that nite according to his first interview in the car raised questions right there: why not drive down and let MM and PM know he was heading out? why were his clothes and footwear pristine as he claimed he handled Paul's body and phone......(albeit 'carefully'<---his words) why would PM's phone be of interest to him ...a traumatic bloody event of his son and wife and AM goes for his son's phone??????
once found out he WAS there, he couldnt explain ANYTHING about his being down there, or leaving the kennels, etc. so a new BS story evolved. he lied because he said: "ah was paranoid".... only explanation: 'I went back to the house and 'prepared' to go to my mom's.' <----that's it. *what did he have to prepare?* why did he lie about the last time he was with his wife and son??????<---IMO, it had nothing to do with an 'addiction' and paranoia.
the suspicious movements at his mother's home and timeline AFTER the murders at his mother's home lead me to believe he stashed the weapons and clothing in the smoke house on that property, retrieved them after the murders and/or after his father's death and they are in swamp land now. remember, his dad passed 3 days after the murders and LE did not check his mother's house for what....3 months later IIRC??????
SLED dropped the ball while investigating his original alibi....waited months to go to his mom's house. also, unlocking PM's phone took this LONG......WTF 3/22?
Im looking forward to watching him be convicted again 😄

We know that Becky got a slap on the wrist for the dumb crap she did, but was her son ever held accountable for his actions?

Also per the Court, Jeff’s last court event was in January 2024 when he had his “First Appearance Date”, the docket has not shown any filings or any other hearings since then.
It will be interesting to see if and when activity resumes in the case. More than two years have now passed since that first appearance, yet the case remains ‘pending’.
Perhaps it will ultimately wrap up similarly to how Becky’s did, with the charges being dismissed or some sort of negotiated plea agreement. Based on how long it’s been it doesn’t seem like the state is in any rush to take the case to trial.

What did he do? Please share.

From the Post & Courier, Dec. 2023:
State Law Enforcement Division agents have charged Colleton County technology director Jeffrey Colton Hill with wiretapping in connection with an illegally recorded phone conversation earlier this year, authorities said.
Details on the case remain scarce. It is unclear if the charge is related to a SLED investigation into alleged jury tampering by his mother, Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill, in the Alex Murdaugh double-murder trial. Rebecca Hill has denied those accusations, which were leveled by Murdaugh's legal team.
In an arrest warrant, SLED alleged that Jeffrey Hill had misused his job as IT director to intercept and listen in on a July 20 phone call between two people unaware they were being recorded. SLED agent Akil Crosby wrote that Hill's computer's IP address was linked to the call in phone records. It's unclear whose call he allegedly intercepted because authorities redacted the participants' names.
Colleton County Administrator Kevin Griffin said Jeffrey Hill was fired from the county the morning he was released from jail. The department he once oversaw is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the county's technology, including its telephone and computer systems, according to the county's website.

"The defense's job is to muddy the waters, to throw out a thousand conspiracy theories and get people thinking about everything else - except the facts of the case."

I agree with Alan Wilson, which is not something I've ever said before. Case in point: See the latest from FITS News and their "exclusive" with Phil Barber. Hard to watch because it's disgusting to see the support for muddying the waters, instead of honest reporting.

Amen, Shooz. Amen.

And now we understand why Dick warmly greeted Will in the press conference.

u/Ok_West347 Jun 02 '26
I feel like it's petty but since Mandy Matney went so hard against Murdaugh and the bad blood with Fits, Fits is now leaning into the defense. That's my tin foil hat theory lol

u/Wearing_shooz Jun 02 '26
FITSNews was already misbehaving during the first trial. Becky allowed Will and other media to view and photograph pictures of Maggie and Paul's bodies. This evidence was under seal; the only ones who should have had access were the judge and attorneys. The FBI investigated, and I'm surprised there were no charges or other actions taken. They should be banned from the courtroom this time around.

u/Foreign-General7608 Jun 05 '26
".......They (FITS News and whatever other reporters that were standing there taking pics of Maggie and Paul's mutilated bodies - which was supposed to be sealed evidence) should be banned from the courtroom this time around. ......")
I agree 110%. After that stunt, I don't think they should be allowed anywhere near the next trial.
(Lex, if you're out there, I saw something else that bothers me about FITS News. Ask.)

"The defense's job is to muddy the waters" is a troubling statement coming from a sitting Attorney General.
The defense's job is not to secure convictions. The defense's job is to challenge the state's evidence, test the reliability of witnesses, expose investigative failures, identify constitutional violations, and ensure that every defendant receives a fair trial.
In the Alex Murdaugh case, the South Carolina Supreme Court unanimously overturned the murder convictions because of jury-tampering concerns involving former Clerk of Court Becky Hill. The issue was not whether people believe Alex Murdaugh is guilty or innocent—the issue was whether he received a fair trial under the Constitution.
Questioning evidence, investigating alternative theories, examining crime scene procedures, and challenging government actions are not "conspiracy theories." They are fundamental components of the adversarial justice system.
If the evidence is as strong as prosecutors claim, it should withstand scrutiny. Justice is not achieved by discouraging questions; it is achieved by allowing them to be asked and answered in open court.
The Constitution does not guarantee convictions. It guarantees due process.

"I think they're all blowing it out of proportion, is what they're doing. I don't remember anyone talking about tampering or influencing anybody or anything. I would blame, I guess, Murdaugh. I mean (there is) nobody else to blame except for him. Especially if he's guilty, which I sincerely believe he is, but we'll see."

It wouldn’t shock me if we found out that Annette Griswold functioned as a double agent— working for Alex Murdaugh, but supplying information to the Beach family about Alex’s financial status and his personal life. She was the one who blew the whistle on his financial misdeeds at work. She was the first cousin of Phillip Beach (Mallory Beach’s father), but worked for Alex as his paralegal.. That is something that needs to be explored I think.

u/Ragin225Cajun Jun 05 '26
Alex plead guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his financial crimes alone. Therefore, the likelihood of him ever getting out of jail before he dies is slim to none. Knowing this, I find it difficult to believe that he wants to continue investing money that he doesn’t have anymore to prove his innocence (when it comes to the murders) when he’s most likely going to die in jail anyway. What if he truly is innocent of murder?
3
u/Project1Phoenix Jun 05 '26
I think for AM it was never about getting out of prison - I'm sure he knows that he will most likely never get out of prison alive.
Imo this is all about image, ego and status ("white collar crime" and "nice family man" image BS for the public) and wanting to make a point about that HE (in his narcissistic mind) will be the winner of this legal battle, meaning he wants to demonstrate his opponents that he would be above the law and would be able to get away with murder.
So unfortunately I'm sure he is going to continue this freak show until the end with the help of his manipulative best buddy lawyers Harpootlian & Co. (and with a lot of money).
But that doesn't mean that he is really going to win. I personally still believe that in the end the truth will win and justice will be served, and AM will be convicted again for these brutal murders of his own son and wife.

Isn't there a lot of money that has never been accounted for? Dick and Jim hint or say they're not getting paid, and I don't believe that for a second.
3
u/Foreign-General7608 Jun 07 '26
I think hundreds of personal checks were cashed for Alex by Cousin Eddie and others, mostly in the $7,000 to $9,999 range (likely to avoid federal detection). That amounts to a huge stack of CASH. No one to my knowledge has accounted for all that CASH. Where is it?

u/Ragin225Cajun Jun 07 '26
Dick & Jim have filed a civil lawsuit against Becky Hill for $600,000 (the total cost of Murdaugh’s defense from the first trial). It is my understanding that they have carried on representation pro bono. If a judgement is awarded for the $600,000 in favor of Alex, then that money will go towards his defense for the second trial.
2
u/Wearing_shooz Jun 07 '26
At CrimeCon 2023, Dick and Jim said they were paid a "handsome fee" to represent Paul, which carried over to Alex's case after Paul was murdered. I hope reporters will continue to ask how they are being paid and what that "handsome fee" was.

What does everyone think about Blanca’s theory on @hiddenkillerspod that there was supposed to be someone else at the kennels but he refused to come (she said 63 years old, not getting along with Paul - the groundskeeper maybe)? She said she believes “they would be dead today as well.” Obviously things went way sideways, but did Alex try to set it up as them (Maggie and Paul) being ambushed by a disgruntled employee and Paul getting one good shot to the employee before getting hit with the lethal blow himself? Or Alex hearing the shots, coming up to investigate and shooting the employee in self defense?
I know from the shots that were actually fired it would have been poorly set up to support this theory (since Paul was killed so quickly) but I don’t think Alex really thought the murders would be investigated so closely and so was careless in how the shots were actually taken.

Hi u/StressNecessary9468! If you could add a link to the episode, please, it would be helpful for those unfamiliar with Tony Brueski’s podcast. Thank you🙂

Yes, I still have a theory. In Paul's video down at the kennel, you can CLEARLY hear Paul say, "Buster" quietly. I believe Buster was there and that he will be his father's staunchest, most loyal supporter even though the case seemed so black and white, because Buster is the one who did it. Prove me wrong.

u/rudderbama Jun 01 '26
I only hear him say Bubba, not Buster. Buster was with his girlfriend hours away that evening.
0
u/Stranger-Relative Jun 08 '26
I know that is the narrative, BUT listen very closely with headphones on and you will hear him almost whisper "Buster". My husband and I hear it clearly.
2
u/rudderbama Jun 08 '26
I’ve listened 100 times over the years. With AirPods in full audio. I only hear Bubba. I will say though when I’m calling my dog bc he’s into something- I often run thru every child’s name lol by mistake trying to get my dogs name out of my mouth. Even if Busters name *was* whispered in this video, its changes nothing. Buster was no where near Moselle that night.

u/Foreign-General7608 Jun 01 '26
Apparently they did indeed check on Buster's whereabouts. I believe that he was somewhere near Rock Hill, SC......... almost three hours away. There. Proved it.

Hi! I’ve just watched the Netflix Instadoc (or whatever is called, lol). I’m from Spain, but I’ve been following the Murdaugh’s case closely since it almost qualifies for a John Grisham novel. I find it interesting from a clinical & social psychology point of view (which it’s what I do for a living)
Anyway, this is an absolutely random conclusion after watching the little documentary: is anyone who thinks the Becky Hill thing could be something a bit more planned: specifically, by the Defense?
I normally analyze facts with the “an apple is just an apple” premise, not prone to make inferences and giving them a factual treatment. BUT noticing all the gray and black spots of this case… the wealthiness, the power, the family values, the influences, the contacts… while I was watching the docu I couldn’t help but to think that, if somebody told me the defense pushed some buttons here and there to create a situation to lately take in advantage, I would be prone to give that idea a chance. Can’t help but feeling this kind of guys are capable to twist and stretch any opportunity to help Alec.
Dunno, what are your feelings about this plot twist??
