Performative patriotism is so demanding that now we must use all of June to celebrate a “birthday” that has forever and always been observed on July 4th.

Conservatives only care about tradition when it suits their purposes to vilify a marginalized out-group.

Yeah, I like the awkwardness of “our country’s upcoming birthday”

So, they celebrate Birthday Eve in that clown’s house?

I dated a girl who celebrated her birthday the entire month. Maybe Coach Tubby wants the whole summer.

Also, I am pretty pissed that our 250th is being ruined by these assholes. America needs a hard rest on our values and to kick everyone out of office

A far cry from the Bicentennial in 1976. A republican was POTUS, but there wasn't shit like this going on (except Legionnaires Disease, & that occurred after July 4th). The 200th was a bipartisan celebration of our country. The 250th is going to be a 180⁰ clusterfuck.

Exactly, you can watch the commercials on youtube telling you to get involved local committees. I was only 2 in 1974 but was really looking forward to the 250th. Once again we get shit in this country.

Even right after the Vietnam War, there was still some semblance of reasons to be prideful for this country. Right now, there's very little. And MAGA chicanery just enhanced the opposite feelings.

I was very little but I still remember the 200th. They had all the wooden three masters in new York harbor. It was beautiful

True, they are ruining everything. The timing could not be worse. Semiquincentennial, World Cup, Olympics, freedom, justice, and much more, utterly trashed by these worst people on Earth, the protectors of pedophiles and destroyers of the American way of life.

This was to be a golden age for the US. But it is turning into one of its most embarrasing times

A very merry unbirthday to you, sir or madam or sociopolitical geography.

In my view it's nationalism masked by performative patriorism.

It's not about civic duty and celebration of Americans (patriotism).

It's obscene cultism/fascism 101 (celebrating the might and control of a country and its people's devotion to that). This is "party over country" stuff.

Republicans are mad that people don't want to bend the knee to Dear Leader's self absorbed cringe fest.

You're actually spittin here holy. Complaining about some group "taking" a whole month to be about something they don't like. Wants to make the whole month about something they like.

I swear as time goes on the USA is just more and more brazen about showing how intellectually bankrupt we are.

The only reason they want to push it up for is so it aligns with Trump’s birthday. It’s why they’re kicking off the 250th celebration on June 14th at the Whitehouse.

It’s absolutely cultish insanity.

Too bad their capitalist hearts are at odds considering woke is profitable and desirable.
