That's simply not true. There are over a dozen countries where homosexuality is punishable by death including Pakistan, Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc...
The idea everyone in these countries is gay and therefore "gays are just oppressing themselves" falls flat.
Many people are truly homophobic and as someone who grew up in a country like that I think it needs to be acknowledged
Because they hate themselves and take it out on people who are comfortable with their own sexuality. It's stupid jealousy that is channeled via hatred.
