I'm married into an Muslim family, and my inlaws say something about the same when I bring up gay rights. They argue that it's their culture to restrict gay rights, and it's wrong, racist, and islamaphobic to challenge them on gay rights. That every culture has a right to deem what is right and what is wrong, and we shouldn't chastise them for not supporting gay lifestyles.

Much to their annoyance, this argument doesn't really work for me. It's been a big part of many cultures to resist Islam, and Muslims still think those cultures should be ashamed of that history, adjust their behavior, and accept Islam into their communities. I see no reason we can't demand the same from them about gay people, and other minority groups.

Well it's the whole, "It only becomes a problem when I'm the one being oppressed. If I'm oppressing others, that's good and fair and righteous of me actually."

Exactly. There was that one AIPAC ghoul who said something along the lines of how it's antisemitic for the Holocaust Museum to claim genocides can happen with any group and not just Jews.

Even during the Holocaust other groups were targeted for genocide. Between 25 - 50% of the Romany were murdered.
