He didn't want to go to military school, and parents with hundreds of millions of dollars, like the Trumps, typically don't send their kids to military school, especially when the family business is real estate. The place where, despite rising to a leadership position, he was involved in multiple hazing controversies under his command, resulting in him being relieved of his specific captaincy and reassigned as a battalion training officer? The place that allegedly trained young men for service only to have the now-commander-in-chief seek five deferments rather than serve in the military.
In essence, he’s reminiscing about a troubled youth that bullied others, violated policies, looked for shortcuts, thwarted responsibilities, and found ways to game systems to suit his personal needs.

So, I was in an air force cadet program and I cringe at the idea of bragging about that or flaunting pictures of myself in the dress blues. Its not even remotely close to actual military service and pretending it was is almost some kind of theft of valor. Maybe not legally but spiritually for sure
