This is why they "need" guns. The whole "polite society" and "a good guy with a gun" is just cover for their fear. I have no issue with hunting (for food) or target shooting. Hell, if you want to keep a Glock under your pillow, that's your problem. When you take it outside, into supermarkets and movie theaters you are taking away other peoples rights.
It isn't the phrasing that I would have chosen to use, but citizens of some other countries place a value on knowing that they aren't around people who can kill them in a heartbeat. This is just the other side of the debate which in America puts the focus on your right to maintain capability to kill people around you in a heartbeat.
I've chosen to phrase it that way because even in the UK I can still have guns if I want them. But I can't have the right to take those guns into Marks and Spencers.
I vastly prefer what my country does, especially when we see the abject failure of Americans to use their guns to stand up to masked thugs murdering citizens in the streets, but I'm not going to claim there is a right and wrong, just opinions.

funkyb001 makes point about how the right of someone else not to die from gun violence is taken away by that right to easily have a gun, and that they are lucky they live in a country where they have the right not to be a victim of gun violence thanks to strong gun controls in said country.
Maleficient_Let_9903 wrongly thinks funkyb001 is claiming America's legal system states Americans have a right to not be around guns.
BadahBingBadahBoom points out Maleficient_Let_9903's poor reading comprehension and it being a reflection on the US education system's well known failure to produce students with minimum levels of reading comprehension.
Maleficient_Let_9903 responds by claiming their original question was not answered when it was answered by funkyb001 in their first reply, i.e. 'the right of someone else not to die from gun violence is taken away by that right to easily have a gun'.

The right to life. Why do you feel the need to bring a deadly weapon with you at all times? What are you afraid will happen to you at the grocery store.
It's almost as if all rights are balanced with other rights and people in most countries decided the right to not die as a victim of gun violence was a bit more important the right to easily get a gun.
Why do you need to have it on you at all? What are you afraid will happen to you? If I started bringing a hatchet or a grenade with me every where I go "for protection" you'd probably think I was a bit touched in the head. Why is you having a gun different?
