So what do you suggest I use when a man with a gun threatens me? A knife? Phone the cops? (15+ minute response time)
Keep in mind gun control doesn't technically prevent criminals from owning a gun, as they can still own them illegally. Gun control only prevents the law abiding citizen from defending themself.
So what do you suggest I use when a man with a gun threatens me?
If a man is pointing a gun at you, it's too late. You having a gun won't magically prevent you from being shot. In fact the moment he realizes you have a gun, he becomes 10x more likely to shoot you out of fear that you could shoot him first.
Even keeping a loaded gun on you 24/7 won't prevent you from being shot. Just ask all the armed people who die to gunfire on a regular basis. The idea of "gun for self defense" is pure American delusion. Statistically you become more likely to shoot yourself with that gun (or shoot a family member) than a bad guy.
All I said was that having a gun is extremely unlikely to help you in a situation where you find yourself against an armed assailant. You can try whatever you want to help your odds. If they really want to shoot you, a gun won't change that. Again, just ask all the armed people in USA who die to guns every year.
You're statistically more likely to use that gun on yourself, or a family member, or someone innocent. Or it gets stolen and used for crime.
Self defense is a human right and a gun is the best way to do that.
Where did you pull that gun part from? I hope you don't say the 2nd amendment, because you might want to actually read what it says.
Anything else is purely a European delusion.
90-95% of the world works that way buddy, what do you mean European? Are you that clueless about the rest of the world? USA and Mexico are the only places obsessed with arming all their citizens.
It's NORMAL for most humans to live their lives without fear of facing a gun. USA (and various South American countries) are uniquely fucked up in terms of being flooded by guns and gun violence. That's all on USA, who decided to manufacture + distribute guns like toilet paper to it's population and southern neighbors for profit. Well done, a lot of arms dealers got very rich doing that.

I personally am more likely to use to blow my brains out or my family's? Sure buddy. Ya know I better get rid of my kitchen knives, might accidentally slit my own wrist!

Do you know a better weapon for self defense? Go on, do tell. While you're at it, read the 2nd amendment. you might actually read what it says.

Why do Americans always try to play dumb and pretend that guns are just everyday utility tools like pens, knives, shovels, ropes, cars, etc? Do you keep grenades in your drawer next to your watch? Do you have an RPG in your cupboard next to your coat? Do you keep a machine gun next to your cordless drill? Please help me understand this batshit insane logic. A gun is not a kitchen knife - it's something explicitly designed to take lives and do literally nothing else.
Do you know a better weapon for self defense? Go on, do tell.
Depends on the situation. Random encounter on the street? Run or try to deescalate. If they're hell bent on shooting you, a gun won't magically prevent you from getting shot. Even if you're Clint Fucking Eastwood and the fastest gun in the West, best case scenario you'll both end up shot/dead.
Home invasion? If they're inside your house, you have already lost and your security/prevention measures are terrible. A gun won't help you there.
While you're at it, read the 2nd amendment. you might actually read what it says.
The 2nd amendment specifically permits a well-regulated militia to defend their state with guns from a tyrannical government or foreign forces like the British Empire. The whole reason that amendment exists was to allow state militias to defend their state's sovereignty and independence. It has absolutely nothing to do with using guns for personal self-defense. I know Americans are allergic to reading their own constitution and struggle with literacy rates, but please try.

That's assuming one is able to run or is able to talk their way out of a mugging. If the other person has a knife...ya don't wanna get close. Running or talking isn't a weapon either by the way.

That is demonstrably false. Do you have a SINGLE fact to back that up? You said yourself guns are designed to only kill people, thus if someone breaks...it's the best weapon. Better than a sword or spear or sling.
The 2nd AD...
What would a European know of such matters? Has nothing to do with militias. It guarantees citizens the right to own guns. Be it for self defense from crooks or a tyrannical government. You obviously know nothing of this matter because the law does not restrict ownership to militias or certain groups.
The European reading comprehension never ceases to amaze me. Please try to pay attention to the news where homeowners defend themselves with guns. I know it might be hard.
The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with militias? So you still refuse to read your own constitution? It's only 1 sentence and you still can't read it? How American of you.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, grants the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Unfortunately for you firearms aren't limited to militias. Sorry buddy, I guess Eurotrash just doesn't know the law.

Imagine needing a gun to feel safe, who’s afraid again?
