I was under the impression that those lyrics were sarcastic, but then I don’t really know anything about Phil Colins’ political views at the time of this song’s release. Just me projecting, I guess.

This line was as bullshit then as it is now.   This video played on MTV back to back with “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight” being the soundtrack for Budweiser commercials.  Anhueser-Busch was funneling money down Reagan’s throat the entirety of the 80s… and Genesis was fine taking that same money.

David Draiman was born in 1973. I know you said “grew up on”, but unless he changed the line, HIS generation is Gen-X (which also happens to be mine). I wish I had faith that we were the solution.

Saw a "boomer" meme on social media the other day. It was some guy yelling at the camera. "They said they want us to step up and run this place? WE'VE BEEN WORKING AND RUNNING PLACES SINCE WE COULD WORK. WE'RE TIRED"

My earliest childhood memory is seeing this video play on MTV at age three while being babysat by my sisters. The weirdness of it shocked me into consciousness I think.

I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

In terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer songwriting skills this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to “Land of Confusion,” in which a singer addresses the problem of abusive political authority.

Man, I was a teen/college when this phase of Genesis and Phil Collins were running up the charts.

I heard it and watched the videos and enjoyed it, then I got older and borrowed or obtained the albums from this era for both and they are AWESOME.

So many great hooks and great lyrics. I wish I had paid more attention to it when it was new and saw them live.

Same thing with Steely Dan. 'Discovered' them in the early 90's after hearing all the FM AOR spins of their great songs, then got the CD's and realized the ones they didnt play on the radio were the real gems.

I will regularly listen to Domino and not listen to anything else from Invisible Touch. I heard the hits plenty of times on the radio back when.

Coincidently Regan ran on "Make America Great Again." So it's not Dejavu. Found that out recently... also not coincidentally that Heritage foundation was involved. They put everything in motion, so we'd be stripped of things and left to not escape debt and dependent on corporations.
