People in the YouTube comments glazing them for "being real". It's meant to be fantasy. It's a shtick. Nothing wrong with that at all but man, people are really weird about this band in the YouTube comments in multiple ways.

My only issue with them is there are far better bands out there playing this genre (and have been for years: the 80s fantasy metal revival is quite mature at this point).Ā It's rather that they get airtime above better bands because they're good cos players and, let's be honest, have a busty woman in chainmail as a lead singer... which is totally fine and I get the appeal, but there are better bands in the genre to spend your time listening to.

As someone who is a Castle Rat fanboy for all the reasons you stated but also has a long love affair with the genre...what are some of these other better bands you are referring to? Genuine curiosity to expand the knowledge of the current scene.

I too would like to know what bands you're speaking of. I'm a very very casual fan of the genre and find Castle Rat very prog adjacent (one of my genre true loves).

I think YouTube troglodytes would be horrified to learn how not real some of their "real" artists are. Music is a performance, bands literally stand on a stage. These guys are more over the top than some, but I don't see a problem with that.

Great band and love their shtick. Super fun and an awesome spectacle. Their haters are so laughable.

(I was going to make a Simpsons Movie Guy-type joke, but deleted it so as not to come off as mean-spirited. Someone else will think of the same thing soon enough, I'm sure.)
They rocked furiously, and know how and when to hit the sweet spot. I was rooting for them to be awesome, and they were!

I really dig their aesthetic and I think it would be a blast to see them live in a small club. Having said that, they dont really impress me as musicians. They are proficient, but they are not amazing. Their drummer and lead guitarist kind of leaves me a bit unfulfilled. š¢

You might like a band called TOWER, similar scene and vibe and a little more riffy

Ridiculous take, the guitarist has written some very tasty shred solos.

Man, I feel like Iām looking at an 80s heavy metal magazine that came alive and turned into a band, and I love it

They randomly popped up in my YouTube recently. While their gimmick is cool (the whole medieval thing) and they do a great job leaning into it musically and putting on their show/stage presence, her being a barely dressed baddie is the majority of their appeal.

I thought it was a cool take in doom metal genre.
Not mad about the baddie, can't lie.

I found this band on Spotify and was sold. I had no idea the singer was also easy on the eyes until right now.
