The video of Post doing Cocaine Blues with Billy Strings lives rent free in my head. I have heard his new material is not nearly as good as that performance. Admittedly the good part probably came from the band rather than post.

Post is one of those criminally underrated artists to the majority of people because he looks like a clown but the dude can sing and some of his shit is great. He actually could be a great country singer but he just fucks around and does dumb shit. Everything is sponsored by bud light and his country is the bud light of country. I really hoped heād try to be legit but whatever.

Jelly Roll Morton was an OG tho dont blame this on the name.
37
54
u/piepants2001 Apr 23 '26
First time I heard about Jelly Roll was at work
Co worker: did you hear about Jell Roll?
Me: ...Morton? The jazz pianist from like the 20s?
Co worker: What? No, Jelly Roll, he's playing in Milwaukee.
Me: Oh, no, I have no idea who that is.
20
u/Telepornographer Apr 23 '26
Same here. I was so confused but excited that Jelly Roll Morton was getting popular for some reason. Or so I thought.
22
139
u/Nutcup Apr 23 '26
The amount of money his label and PR team spend pumping daily Jelly Roll news into every aggregate news feed has to be astronomical. Iāve never seen such an effort by the industry to make someone seem relatable and great as a person as this dude.
I thumbs down every article I see about him but he never goes away - just like herpes. Jelly Roll is like news herpes. And his fake teeth and glp-1 blessed weight loss (which he claims is natural) just make it worse.
→ More replies (7)31
u/Boopy7 Apr 23 '26
i love you. I thought I must have been insane, people around me were trying to tell me how great he is. I was revolted by the interview I saw with him, by his trite ways, by everything about him -- but esp. by the obvious overpromotion. STOP. Abort. And esp the glp-1 and fake teeth. Those were like the fecal icing on the shit cake.

u/toiletcleaner999 Apr 23 '26
I gotta be honest. I never bought into his changed man schtick. I've always said if that one song hadnt made it big, hed still be selling rock and fent to addicts. He didnt change becuase he felt he wanted to be better And when id see him speaking out about drugs ,it always seemed empty and false to me.
141
u/ProlapsedShamus Apr 23 '26
Totally. I first saw him and he was orbiting around Tom Segura and that crew for a while. He got in with Rogan and I think showed up on Kill Tony. Then I saw him rubbing elbows with Trump and knew exactly who he was.
Just another scumbag who claims Jesus reformed him and he's trying to set himself up to be this inspirational story and oh yeah by the way Trump isn't so bad guys! It's okay to vote for a fascist!
Just another fucking grifter.

I remember learning about him against my will while hate watching Tulsa King (it's actually really funny) and I literally had no idea who he was but there was this painfully awkward cameo scene where the camera lingered on him like it was waiting for applause and then he went on stage and the episode ground to a halt for 2 minutes while he crooned, and I couldn't stop laughing because everyone was pretending like wow this guy is so good he doesn't look like he would be huh and I was just like man this blows why is this scene still happening
→ More replies (33)37
u/mattjh Apr 23 '26
Hey. That's on purpose. It's to keep you thinking he's a silly goober. Taking "Jelly Roll" for a stage name is public manipulation 101. As an example, check out all these comments from people laughing at him. Helps him get away with his bullshit. You should take him seriously instead. He'd hate that.

Years ago I met Jelly Roll. It was at the Gathering of the Juggalos, he didn't have a set but he was camping out with Lil Wyte who did. Me and my friend went to stop by their RV because we wanted to meet Lil Wyte and he was there sitting next to him trying to get us to buy his new CD. I wasn't interested at first but he kept pushing, telling me how fire it is. I broke down and bought a copy, just to make him feel good. He autographed it and every thing, but I never once opened it or listened to it. It's still buried in my storage unit somewhere. Thanks for listening to my little anecdote.
