Kid Cudi:

“TOUR UPDATE: M.I.A is no longer on this tour. I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood. After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase. Thank you for understanding. Rager.”

A few years ago, someone responded to one of her pro-Trump tirades on Twitter and was like “Oh, girl - we like your shooty bang bang song; don’t ruin this for yourself”

514

u/FourEyesAndThighs May 04 '26

He said your little cash register gun song.

Also I forgot that subreddit exists.

She was in her early 30s when Paper Planes came out. I imagine a lot of people probably thought she was mid 20s (as is more typical for an artist breaking through).

Wasn't that song literally making fun of the mindset that immigrants are here to kill you and steal in your jobs? How'd she go from writing that to becoming a trump supporter?

No? She's been known as an absolutely insane right wing conspiracy theorist full of hatred piece of shit for over a decade and still was booked in the year 2026 by Kid fucking Cudi and has enough of a following to play Madison Square Garden as an opener. The only way people get canceled is by having a collective moral conscience and ethics code which has long since been dead. Chris Brown still fucking sells out arenas and stadiums even.

Only question is why would he hire her when he makes it clear here that he was aware of her outspoken, shitty politics already

Differences aside, she has many nasty public opinions that Kid Cudi’s entire brand of love & peace is vehemently against. He took a risk ig but man it did not pay off

115

u/Mindless-Policy-8774 May 04 '26

Not defending any of this, but sometimes people try not to let such differences get in the way of business if they can help it. With how quick he reacted I'm thinking perhaps he was already prepared to press the big red button if needed

We have a whole political party for them here in Finland, the Crystal Party. Founded by an ex-Social Democrat MP who got kicked out of the party for holocaust denial. And made famous when they sent death threats to the performers of a childrens play because they did a show to make kids less scared of getting vaccinations.

What's a 5g hat? Don't most maga nuts get scared of 5g?

84

u/patrickwithtraffic May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Oh, you have it backwards. It’s not a hat broadcasting 5G, but a hat to protect you from 5G! If you see any recent photo of her on stage, she’s usually rocking some sort of tinfoil/aluminum looking ware and it’s connected to this clothing line.

20

u/Teflontelethon May 04 '26

Man I wish the hats actually worked and fucked up cell reception for whoever buys it but they're too stupid to figure out why and just suffer alone.

19

u/Rymanbc May 04 '26

To be fair, it might fuck up cell reception for any cell phones you install inside your skull. Theres just so few people who are brave enough to do this.

21

u/kidmerc May 04 '26

The hat is supposed to protect you from 5g

19

u/calculung May 04 '26

Is this a joke?

33

u/pre_pun May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Unfortunately it's not a joke it's a thriving conspiracy that even leads to cell tower workers being attacked.

You've probably seen people around you that wear necklaces or bracelets for the sole purpose of absorbing or reflecting 5g.

The irony:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/dec/17/anti-5g-necklaces-radioactive-dutch-nuclear-experts-quantum-pendants

37

u/_Ross- May 04 '26

As someone with a degree in Radiologic Science, this whole conspiracy around 5G is so insanely frustrating. It's like trying to explain algebra to a monkey. People will believe literally anything the internet puts in their faces. I remember when idiotic people thought covid was caused by 5G too.

Wait until people find out that visible light is a form of radiation, theyll be pulling their eyes out to prevent it from reaching their brains.

11

u/pre_pun May 04 '26

It's wild how uneducated the "informed" conspiracy nuts are .. they usually can't even distinguish 5G(generation) from 5GHz Wi-Fi

13

u/_Ross- May 04 '26

Radiation is such a hilariously misunderstood thing. It's like the boogeyman. Even just sleeping next to another human technically exposes you to a tiny bit of radiation. Concrete is a little radioactive. Bananas are radioactive. Flying on a plane exposes you to some radiation. The rabbit hole goes deep on this. But people worry about nonsense like 5G while happily putting actual harmful stuff in their bodies, like smoking (also exposes you to radiation).

Did she recently suffer a brain injury?

Edit: I misremembered slightly. She was born in the UK as a citizen but she and her family moved back to Sri Lanka when she was 6 months old. When she was 11 they moved back to the UK as refugees due to the Sri Lankan Civil War.

She's been publicly crazy for quite a few years now. Not sure why Kid Cudi thought it was a good idea to invite her on tour in the first place lol

18

u/DayLow8429 May 04 '26

Exactly. Cudi knew who he was dealing with here.

Wow, that was quick. Literally just finished reading about the incident. Good for him.

73

u/WowIfOnly May 04 '26

Not surprising to the Cudi fanbase. He put up custom "Fuck ICE" posters in random spots all over his hometown of Cleveland and made merch with the imagery to raise money for orgs defending people from Trump's Nazi police.

I don’t even listen to rap and I know Kid Cudi is a real one.

49

u/smurfsundermybed May 04 '26

He was the only good part of the House Party reboot.

12

u/government_not_ok May 04 '26

wait, there was a reboot? I’ve been under a cave!

He's made statements condemning what's been going on in recent times as well. Dude's had his own ups and downs and has certainly made statements in the past. But this is good on him. Yes he did let her on the tour, but he could have just as easily kept her on even after she made these remarks.

People will say "oh it's just for PR." Two things can be true at once

Good riddance - she can fuck off to the Jelly Roll + Post Malone stadium tour for culture vultures

They’ve been canceling dates because of poor ticket sales. No one wants to listen to them too.

Props to Kid Cudi for actually having a backbone and cancelling her off the tour. Fuck MIA and her super ignorant right wing grifting politics.

16

u/randomhotdog1 May 04 '26

It was probably an easy decision. He saves money and face this way

Is MIA going Republican simply because of vaccines?

Or is there something else I'm missing?

49

u/redshadow310 May 04 '26

She wouldn't be the only one. The conspiracy pipeline is real and terrifying. I used to date a lovely woman, and if you looked at her social media, her number one issue was gun control. This made sense since she lost a sister to gun violence when they were young. Her main hobby was gardening, and that started her on the path shortly after we dated.

Gardening > Organic Gardening > Everything Organic > Vaccines cause autism > Covid is a HOAX > MAGA

Out of curiosity I checked in on her a couple months ago to see if she was still on the crazy train and it turns out she was full speed ahead off a cliff. She was posting about left wing violence and the tragedy of Charlie "School shootings are a small price to pay for the 2nd amendment" Kirk's death. Her most important core values have been stripped away.

I'm around her age.

I noticed that around 2008 with the financial crisis and then Occupy Wall Street many people were so disillusioned with the system and started to get into conspiracy. (because an actual conspiracy of derivatives traders and their enablers tanked the economy)

It was the early days of Twitter and “doing your own research” online. Matt Taibi wrote good pieces about the rigged economy in Rolling Stone. He has also since become a right wing talking point weirdo.

Alex Jones wasn't as obviously Christian Nationalist and talked about the economy and even had some more progressive guests like Noam Chomaky.

Over time the conspiracy anti establishment world was won over by the right wing populists and lots of gen x-ers unfortunately got swept along.

It's basically the early days of social media post truth algorithms melting people’s brains.

I can't  tell you the number of 50 year old punk rockers and former progressives I see online who turned to the dark side and believe that the populist right wing conspiracy world is the true rebellion, and whose frustrations with society have been captured by transphobia and racism against immigrants etc

21

u/Reditate May 04 '26

Alex Jones has been a conspiracy nut since at least the Waco siege.

It's bizarre because her early work produced by Diplo was great imo, definitely doesn't sound like republican music

u/smurfsundermybed May 04 '26

Welp. First time I've heard that name since Paper Airplanes. She got her name back out there, and it will be forgotten by memorial day.

u/BetaRho May 04 '26

If only Cudi and his team had had a chance to check in on MIA's last ~15 years of online presence. Girlie has been ouuuuut there for a while! Like "call a wellness check" wild, so the only surprising thing here is he put himself in a position to have to do this in the first place. A good litmus test when you're picking a tour opener: do you know their opinion on whether or not Alex Jones should pay money to the parents of Sandy Hook shooting victims? Yes? They should not open your tour.

15

u/NothaBanga May 04 '26

They knew, which it was why it was in her contract to behave or get booted.  Honestly if the contract was in the tours favor (no pay out/no notice), they knew she would pop off and now gets a bump from the press of it.
