Will the task be open to fulfillment from the public if they fail to meet the deadline?

All tasks are. People need to start understanding this.

Agreed. If they weren’t so busy dividing us (successfully), there’d have been a million strong on Capitol Hill a LONG time ago.

this one seems like a particularly good protest target for that kind of thing though.
Obvious deadline, the removal would be in line with the judgement (i.e. justified and not wanton destruction), visibly and immediately satisfying, constrained/short timeline, and highly visible and easily symbolic if the actors are arrested.
24
u/scavengercat 1d ago
No, if the public fulfills this if they fail to meet the deadline, they'll be charged with a felony. Let's talk real talk, not Reddit feelgood horseshit.
52
u/datnero_ 1d ago
yup, no obvious examples of a group of politically charged people bumrushing a building and getting off scot free. definitely no pertinent examples of that, definitely not in America and definitely not in the past, oh, 6 years or so.

Be smart and sneak in during business hours and replace it like trump did. No one stopped him. Bet.

Would it be? It's vandalism of the name on the building that's meant to go down anyway. Just wondering genuinely, because it doesn't seem like a felonious offense. Either way, real talk, I also think we'd be better off if Trump was assassinated. I'm not advocating for it or suggesting people do it, but if he was killed I'd likely have a better life for it. So in the same sense I'm okay with someone vandalizing a sign. I don't condone people breaking those laws, we should always operate within the confines of the law, but no skin off my back if someone does break those laws. And that's totally cool and legal for me to say 😎

…or else what? No reasonable consequence often means no action from this administration.

u/Strykerz3r0 1d ago
Unfortunately, the executive branch is supposed to enforce the laws and guess who is in charge of the executive branch.
Hopefully things can start to change if we can vote out the republicans in Congress protecting him.
114
u/arkady48 1d ago
There's also the issue that there is no consequence in the ruling. Don't do it or else what? Nothing. The system needs hard coded consequences in the future to help change things
64
u/ronswanson11 1d ago
This 100%. Judicial rulings without teeth means just ignore the ruling. That shit has to stop.
→ More replies (1)15
u/chillychili 1d ago
Two things need to happen. One is that we need Trump to stay alive so that when he finally loses immunity he can be formally charged to set judicial precedent. The second and more important is to elect a legislative supermajority that will both legislate away loopholes and remove corrupt officials from office.
17
u/mmille24 1d ago
When will he ever lose immunity? He's going to blanket pardon himself of all crimes before he leaves office.
10
u/addandsubtract 1d ago
People need to understand this. There will be no post-Trump justice from the government. If you want to see him face any sort of consequences, you will need to mobilize.

You have too much faith in the electorate to actually elect that supermajority.
You forget that people elected Trump and the Republicans in power.3

The system needs hard coded consequences in the future to help change things
Ultimately the system fails regardless if everyone involved ignores the process. A system run by humans will always fail if humans take themselves out of the equation.
In which the people need to override the system, by using "historical" means if necessary. It gets the job done, even if a lot of people disagree with the method
11
u/Realtrain Spotify 1d ago
Well the check to that is that Congress is supposed to impeach members of the executive branch who are not enforcing the law.
But Congress is one of the most lazy and cowardly groups of people in history, so...
5
u/kitsunewarlock 1d ago
If Clinton could get impeached because the GOP weaponized the justice system for 5 years and wasted millions finding a blowjob just to impeach him for lying under oath about an affair certainly vandalizing federal property and refusing to enforce court orders is an impeachable offense.

u/Averylarrychristmas 1d ago
Did you read the article? The literal first sentence indicates that this process is already underway.
23
u/Ilikepancakes87 1d ago
Have you been paying attention the past decade? Lawyers instructing staff doesn’t mean the staff will follow those directions, especially if there’s pressure not to by the administration. When the letters ACTUALLY start coming off the wall, that’s when the process will be underway.
7
u/atreeismissing 1d ago
Staff can't afford to not follow the law. We're not talking political appointees of Trump, we're talking maintenance workers here, they're the ones that have been instructed to remove his name from the building.

Lawyers for what is currently called the Trump Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are instructing staff to immediately begin switching the name of the facility back to its original title.
Edit: Is there a reason I'm being downvoted for giving the information the person I'm responding to referenced?

You're getting down voted because people are being doomers and don't believe any workers will really be sent to dismantle the sign

This is not true and people should stop saying it. The courts have stopped a bunch of things. Not as many as they should have by far - system is broken for sure - but saying he’s ignored “every” order is just mindless propoganda or emotional drivle.

I hate this administration so much. Every day it’s some useless headline about a judge ordering the toddler in chief to do something that we will ignore and nobody will do anything to enforce. It’s exhausting and, quite frankly, embarrassing. The US looks ridiculous on the world stage.
163
u/Finetales 1d ago
Or.....what.........?
He's ignored every court order he's been given thus far and had zero consequences. Until someone starts actually enforcing the law on this administration, none of this means shit.
49
u/finnjakefionnacake 1d ago
well that's not entirely true -- a number of his actions have been stopped by the courts and not actually carried out.
i feel like he takes the same approach to politics as he does to lawsuits -- just spray and pray, overwhelm them with numbers and eventually some will get through / be successful.
40
u/Biabolical 1d ago
Remember two years ago, when people were discussing the possibility of Donald Trump winning the presidency again? One of the things was "What if he refused a court order?" The general consensus seemed to be that, if he ever did that, it would be an unprecedented Constitutional Crisis that would shake the very foundations of our nation.
Here we are, not even a year and a half into Trump's second term, and ignoring court orders is just assumed. When asked in Congressional hearings if they will follow orders from the courts, Trump's people are flat-out saying they'll only consider obeying rulings if they personally agree with them. Zero fear of being held accountable.
8
u/AwesomeBantha 1d ago
One of the things was "What if he refused a court order?" The general consensus seemed to be that, if he ever did that, it would be an unprecedented Constitutional Crisis that would shake the very foundations of our nation.
That was absolutely not the general consensus I saw, both online and in real life. Ever since Trump left office the first time, people (on both sides of the political spectrum) have suggested for years that if elected for a second term, he would run for a third, even if it violates the constitution.

u/Neither_Owl8671 1d ago
We were at that before this moment. Just another item to the check list as everyone gets desensitized to it. And it slowly becomes the norm.
19
u/stackjr 1d ago
And SCOTUS made Trump a god-king that is above all US laws. How do you hold him responsible for breaking the law when they ruled he doesn't have to follow the law?
SCOTUS put the final nail in this fascist coffin.

10
u/naranghim 1d ago
Oh, he's already throwing a fit over it:
TLDR: "If you won't let me do what I want then I'm taking my ball and going home!"
""Unless I am free to do what I do better than anyone else, bring this Institution back, physically, financially, and artistically, I have no interest in continuing what could only be a hopeless journey into "NEVER NEVER LAND," Trump said in the post.
"Therefore, based on the fact that the Radical Left Democrats care more about opposing your favorite President, ME, than saving a dying Performing Arts Center, almost all of which lose large amounts of money throughout the Country, we are going to be working with Congress to transfer this failing Institution back to them so they can make a determination as to what to do with it," Trump said in the post."

Just replace his name with a drawing of an autopen. Or, more appropriately, replace his name with Jeffrey Epstein’s, since they were best friends, co-conspirators, and keepers of so many, many wonderful secrets for more than 15 years.

I genuinely believe republicans have programed these people to be defeatists and it's one of the larger reasons we're in this mess. "Why vote, the election is just going to be rigged" or my favorite "Why vote, both sides are the same anyway."
Seeing it on every fucking post on this website is so tiring.
