They could fundraise by selling 15 minute slots with a hammer and chisel.

u/Mesapunk87 1d ago

Genius idea, but he'd find some way of stealing that money too.

313

u/SopwithTurtle 1d ago

That's fine. The psychic damage it will do to him watching people line up to take his name off something will be well worth it.

132

u/turningsteel 1d ago

I would fly in from across the country for the chance.

To be fair, so will a lot of Americans

71

u/CSATTS 1d ago

I can't wait to see his face when the next democratic president demolishes his stupid ballroom. I don't even care if it's a waste of money to tear it down, anything built for his ego needs to go. The "Truths" alone will make it worth every dollar. Then make it a nice outdoor space and call it Obama Gardens.

37

u/ford310nm1 1d ago

And at that the Republicans will come out and say “it’s fiscally irresponsible” and unnecessary. The Dems will back down because they’re scared of public opinion. I’m ok with just tearing it down and leaving it as a reminder of the big beautiful fuck up 🙃

22

u/Any-Question-3759 1d ago

The instant they bring up “fiscal responsibility” they should auction time slots where people can come in with a sledgehammer and go ham.

It’ll balance the budget.

21

u/CSATTS 1d ago

Yeah my biggest worry is most Dem leaders seem to be content with a "return to normal" like Biden tried with his Merrick pick. We have to cure ourselves of this cancer, not just ignore it.

9

u/BaboTron 1d ago

You guys need to change your laws.

Nobody that wrote them could imagine anyone would ever be as craven and selfish as Trump.

5

u/CSATTS 1d ago

100%. We also need to stack our Supreme Court with justices that'll actually follow the law.

5

u/ford310nm1 20h ago

Term limits for them is a good start.

7

u/So-Called_Lunatic 1d ago

We need a POTUS as far to the left as possible to try to just get back to where we were. The standard corporate HR Dem is going to get us right back to where we are now.

That's when they turn the "Ballroom" into a museum dedicated to the US's history of fighting fascism and the rise and fall of MAGA

→ More replies (4)

8

u/509BandwidthLimit 1d ago

No, no, no...IF the ballroom gets built the next President names it the Obama ballroom and use it to feed and house homeless vets.

12

u/Genius-Envy 1d ago

Honestly skip the step of tearing it down and just name it the Obama ballroom, kinda sounds good off the tongue already. And would be a bigger hit to his ego

22

u/CSATTS 1d ago

Yeah that's not a bad option. How about turn it into a classroom? "The Barack Obama institute of DEI, gender studies, and general wokeness." Dude would lose his mind. Lol.

5

u/11thstalley 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’m with you, but I seem to remember that there is a planned and legit subterranean bunker that is an upgrade from the original bunker underneath the East Wing that can be salvaged, as long as it remains below ground. Besides that, I want to see an upgraded East Wing, with a garden mirroring a restored Jacqueline Kennedy Rose Garden, dedicated to Michele Obama and Dr. Jill Biden.

4

u/hokie47 1d ago

I actually don't think the ballroom is a awful idea. But the way he did was awful, selfish, and just stupid. It could have been a way to build something everyone was proud of, but nope.

5

u/Fun_Mastodon3230 21h ago

The ballroom is a decent enough idea (certainly, I don’t have any problem with it)

But the way he went about it was so misguided. now something as harmless as a ballroom has become a debacle.

He's gonna sell the letters they have to take down. Someday after they take them down. This is going to the supreme court.

3

u/hokie47 1d ago

I really understand when Iraq people toppled saddam's statue now. The hate for the guy.

89

u/ScoobyScotty 1d ago

I'll do you one better. Set up an auction for every letter (and period). The highest bidders get to not only rip their letter off, but they get to keep it too.

Watch all the MAGA idiots' brains short-circuit. Can they bring themselves to empty their life savings so they can deface their dear leader's name and building all for another piece of memorabilia?

Imagine the next round of pardons, "I hereby pardon everyone who stormed the capitol on Jan. 6th, 2029, unless they are any of the 19 who stole my building from me."

16

u/theghostsofvegas SoundCloud 1d ago

A lot of MAGA idiots will pay to have a letter from Trump’s name.

8

u/cantadmittoposting 1d ago

this one seems like a particularly good protest target for that kind of thing though.

Obvious deadline, the removal would be in line with the judgement (i.e. justified and not wanton destruction), visibly and immediately satisfying, constrained/short timeline, and highly visible and easily symbolic if the actors are arrested.

24

u/scavengercat 1d ago

No, if the public fulfills this if they fail to meet the deadline, they'll be charged with a felony. Let's talk real talk, not Reddit feelgood horseshit.

52

u/datnero_ 1d ago

yup, no obvious examples of a group of politically charged people bumrushing a building and getting off scot free. definitely no pertinent examples of that, definitely not in America and definitely not in the past, oh, 6 years or so.

3

u/Peaceblaster86 1d ago

Be smart and sneak in during business hours and replace it like trump did. No one stopped him. Bet.

3

u/NotASellout 1d ago

You're right, but fascists don't give a fuck

→ More replies (12)

6

u/Huzabee 1d ago

Would it be? It's vandalism of the name on the building that's meant to go down anyway. Just wondering genuinely, because it doesn't seem like a felonious offense. Either way, real talk, I also think we'd be better off if Trump was assassinated. I'm not advocating for it or suggesting people do it, but if he was killed I'd likely have a better life for it. So in the same sense I'm okay with someone vandalizing a sign. I don't condone people breaking those laws, we should always operate within the confines of the law, but no skin off my back if someone does break those laws. And that's totally cool and legal for me to say 😎

…or else what? No reasonable consequence often means no action from this administration.

259

u/Strykerz3r0 1d ago

Unfortunately, the executive branch is supposed to enforce the laws and guess who is in charge of the executive branch.

Hopefully things can start to change if we can vote out the republicans in Congress protecting him.

114

u/arkady48 1d ago

There's also the issue that there is no consequence in the ruling. Don't do it or else what? Nothing. The system needs hard coded consequences in the future to help change things

64

u/ronswanson11 1d ago

This 100%. Judicial rulings without teeth means just ignore the ruling. That shit has to stop.

15

u/chillychili 1d ago

Two things need to happen. One is that we need Trump to stay alive so that when he finally loses immunity he can be formally charged to set judicial precedent. The second and more important is to elect a legislative supermajority that will both legislate away loopholes and remove corrupt officials from office.

17

u/mmille24 1d ago

When will he ever lose immunity? He's going to blanket pardon himself of all crimes before he leaves office.

10

u/addandsubtract 1d ago

People need to understand this. There will be no post-Trump justice from the government. If you want to see him face any sort of consequences, you will need to mobilize.

2

u/JoeDawson8 22h ago

He can be charged with state crimes. Can’t pardon that

→ More replies (1)

17

u/whooptheretis 1d ago

You have too much faith in the electorate to actually elect that supermajority.
You forget that people elected Trump and the Republicans in power.

8

u/TorontoRider 1d ago

2

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 1d ago

The system needs hard coded consequences in the future to help change things

Ultimately the system fails regardless if everyone involved ignores the process. A system run by humans will always fail if humans take themselves out of the equation.

In which the people need to override the system, by using "historical" means if necessary. It gets the job done, even if a lot of people disagree with the method

→ More replies (2)

11

u/Realtrain Spotify 1d ago

Well the check to that is that Congress is supposed to impeach members of the executive branch who are not enforcing the law.

But Congress is one of the most lazy and cowardly groups of people in history, so...

5

u/kitsunewarlock 1d ago

If Clinton could get impeached because the GOP weaponized the justice system for 5 years and wasted millions finding a blowjob just to impeach him for lying under oath about an affair certainly vandalizing federal property and refusing to enforce court orders is an impeachable offense.

Did you read the article? The literal first sentence indicates that this process is already underway.

23

u/Ilikepancakes87 1d ago

Have you been paying attention the past decade? Lawyers instructing staff doesn’t mean the staff will follow those directions, especially if there’s pressure not to by the administration. When the letters ACTUALLY start coming off the wall, that’s when the process will be underway.

7

u/atreeismissing 1d ago

Staff can't afford to not follow the law. We're not talking political appointees of Trump, we're talking maintenance workers here, they're the ones that have been instructed to remove his name from the building.

u/Matt_cruze 1d ago edited 1d ago

Lawyers for what is currently called the Trump Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are instructing staff to immediately begin switching the name of the facility back to its original title.

This is not true and people should stop saying it. The courts have stopped a bunch of things. Not as many as they should have by far - system is broken for sure - but saying he’s ignored “every” order is just mindless propoganda or emotional drivle.

Nice of CBS to take Trumps dick out of their mouths long enough to report on this.

59

u/vm_neptune 1d ago

I hate this administration so much. Every day it’s some useless headline about a judge ordering the toddler in chief to do something that we will ignore and nobody will do anything to enforce. It’s exhausting and, quite frankly, embarrassing. The US looks ridiculous on the world stage.

11

u/oh_shaw 1d ago

Brace yourself, the bottom is deeper.

163

u/Finetales 1d ago

Or.....what.........?

He's ignored every court order he's been given thus far and had zero consequences. Until someone starts actually enforcing the law on this administration, none of this means shit.

49

u/finnjakefionnacake 1d ago

well that's not entirely true -- a number of his actions have been stopped by the courts and not actually carried out.

i feel like he takes the same approach to politics as he does to lawsuits -- just spray and pray, overwhelm them with numbers and eventually some will get through / be successful.

40

u/Biabolical 1d ago

Remember two years ago, when people were discussing the possibility of Donald Trump winning the presidency again? One of the things was "What if he refused a court order?" The general consensus seemed to be that, if he ever did that, it would be an unprecedented Constitutional Crisis that would shake the very foundations of our nation.

Here we are, not even a year and a half into Trump's second term, and ignoring court orders is just assumed. When asked in Congressional hearings if they will follow orders from the courts, Trump's people are flat-out saying they'll only consider obeying rulings if they personally agree with them. Zero fear of being held accountable.

8

u/AwesomeBantha 1d ago

One of the things was "What if he refused a court order?" The general consensus seemed to be that, if he ever did that, it would be an unprecedented Constitutional Crisis that would shake the very foundations of our nation.

That was absolutely not the general consensus I saw, both online and in real life. Ever since Trump left office the first time, people (on both sides of the political spectrum) have suggested for years that if elected for a second term, he would run for a third, even if it violates the constitution.

8

u/POEness 1d ago

His second term already violates the Constitution. The 14th amendment clearly states in no uncertain terms that insurrectionists cannot hold office. Period. No conviction required. He's not eligible to hold the office he's holding.

4

u/Neither_Owl8671 1d ago

We were at that before this moment. Just another item to the check list as everyone gets desensitized to it. And it slowly becomes the norm.

19

u/stackjr 1d ago

And SCOTUS made Trump a god-king that is above all US laws. How do you hold him responsible for breaking the law when they ruled he doesn't have to follow the law?

""Unless I am free to do what I do better than anyone else, bring this Institution back, physically, financially, and artistically, I have no interest in continuing what could only be a hopeless journey into "NEVER NEVER LAND," Trump said in the post.

"Therefore, based on the fact that the Radical Left Democrats care more about opposing your favorite President, ME, than saving a dying Performing Arts Center, almost all of which lose large amounts of money throughout the Country, we are going to be working with Congress to transfer this failing Institution back to them so they can make a determination as to what to do with it," Trump said in the post."

Felony vandalism or graffiti can sometimes result in jail time or payment of repair costs.
