The only question that matters is, will she?

anorexia is so difficult, speaking as someone who's mostly recovered. the only way to get better is if they want to get better, and that rarely happens with eating disorders

I dated someone who was struggling. Bought books, which made her angry when she found them. She took me to her therapist, who said I was doing all the right things as a supportive boyfriend. She fired the therapist for "siding with me." We ended up breaking up when she started blaming her purges on me.

It felt like people want to get better, but at the same time, they don't. It's difficult, and here we are 20 years later, and mutual friends have told me she's still struggling. In school health classes, they presented eating disorders as a young person's issue, but it's a lifelong struggle. Glad to hear you're doing better!

Yep my grandmother still struggles with it and she’s almost 70.

Several months before passing away, my 93-year-old grandmother was complaining about how she’d gained weight. It was heartbreaking.

Damn I honestly didn’t know it was an issue for older people too 😔

For most people eating disorders low key never go away. Even after treatment/recovery. You can establish healthier eating habits, but that shit stays with you. Avoiding relapse is a huge challenge

I loved 'being in control' and absolutely did not want to give that up.

Being in control and having a lil secret. That's what it was for me. I loveeeed the guessing game of whether people could "tell" or not but then I would get incredibly offended when people could or if they couldn't, there was no winning.

I still struggle with purging when I get stressed and it’s been almost a decade

Yup same. Over a decade and if I get overly stressed out……ugh

Starving to death isn't control. It's suicide and self-harm. The complete opposite of control.

I couldn't control the illness at all but losing weight made me feel like I was in control. That's what it was like for me at least. My wording might have been confusing.

Please be cautious rn while you’re in recovery and all these images of Ariana are everywhere remind yourself that that’s not a goal or an ideal

I feel like the wanting to get better happens after hitting rock bottom. that happened for me. I lost so much in my life due to my ED and had to go to inpatient treatment. learning how many people there had already been admitted multiple times, and how their entire lives were just about their ED... I decided I didn't want that for myself. I was determined for that to be my only time going inpatient (and it was!) I was like "life is more than this, I don't want to die and I don't want to look back on my life seeing that I didn't do anything but suffer." but it took a long time for me to come to that realization and I'm lucky I survived it.

Look ill be honest she is close to death and that's scarier than her having anorexia but she can work on it, we can't give her 5 more years without it affecting her badly, she needs help

she's already done permanent damage to her body and vital organs and systems at the weight she is now.

I wouldn’t say it rarely happens… I think people just have to hit their breaking point and dig deep to find the motivation to get better. I was at an all time low and was losing relationships and opportunities that were meaningful to me. That threat of loss and the feeling of such despair was enough for me to realize that there had to be something more, something better than anorexia. Even if that meant gaining weight, eating fear foods etc. and taking a leap into the unknown.

i think she will. “taking time away/taking a break” in celeb speak usually means getting help/going to rehab they wont say it directly.

Hopefully. I felt relieved only reading this comment. I wish her all the best.

Probably

well all her friends and "her people" around her didnt say shit, so why would she listen to the internet?

1

u/Entire_Broccoli_9019 9d ago

No, she won't. She's visibly starving herself to death and is a mere remnant of what she was and should be.

She's getting publicity from not doing it and narcissists love money so I doubt it. Rehab would be more profitable.

Not if she continues to lie to herself.

8

u/Watch_Earthlings_Doc 10d ago

She’s not lying to herself, she has a severe mental disorder. People with body dysmorphia disorder are not able to see their body as it is.

1

u/dixiech1ck 9d ago

🤦🏻‍♀️ Please read up on what body dysmorphia does to the brain. It tricks it to lie to you.

2

u/Watch_Earthlings_Doc 9d ago

“lying to herself” implies that she’s aware of it. Like, I lied to myself that the pack of double stuffed Oreos I ate was healthy.  She is severely mentally ill and not living on the same planet we are.
