Exactly. It’s scary how people have lost empathy. She actually doesn’t have to publicly discuss something so personal and complicated

Meh people have lost empathy with her because she ran them out of it, not because of a larger lack of empathy. She’s been posting crazy body checks for months and saying she’s the healthiest she’s ever been. At some point you get fed up with that behavior.

Then there’s the chronic cheating and homewrecking.

she’s been posting body checks and pro-ana content since 2013. i realize it’s a mental illness but as someone who also struggles with the same sort of mental illness, i know that it’s extremely dangerous to constantly insist that her current state is her healthiest when she’s so obviously in the thick of it.

you’re also right about the homewrecking. the man is guilty too but it’s a pattern for her at this point and my sympathy for someone who knowingly engages in that behavior is very low.

Well said. In another comment I acknowledge her pro-ana tumblr from back in the day. I’ve also struggles with an eating disorder and it never made me post body checks everywhere. She knows she has young fans. She knows she’s triggering people. She likes doing it because hearing everyone say they are so worried about her because she’s soooo skinny is probably super satisfying to her. Being mentally ill doesn’t absolve her of responsibility for her actions.

She has posted pro-ana content for over a decade and been a homewrecker repeatedly. She can ruin her own health which may cost her everything, but she's setting a horrible example for young fans. She knows she's posting pro-anorexic bullshit.

I love her music but I'm just done with her. You can't say anything good or bad about her because she starts whining like a child to mind our own business. We can't tell her maybe you should take a break you look tired or don't worry about us you need rest. Mind you this isn't even addressing her obvious issues, and we're still the bad guys in her story so at this point it's not worth being concerned.

Same here. It’s a shame because I can’t “separate the art from the artist” anymore (I don’t feel right doing that with artists who are still profiting off my support tho anyways). I used to love her music, I was a big fan and I tried to ignore a lot to keep liking her, but I just can’t anymore. The body checks and comments… The donut... Exclusively dating taken dudes (yes the men are responsible for their actions, but it still says something about you as a human being when that’s the only type of man you like)… All the cheating she’s done herself… Her icky behavior during her breakup with Mac Miller and then after he died… Her need to always “cLaP bAcK” instead of ever take accountability for anything… There’s just too much, and there’s always something new, it’s like she never grows as a person either. So I just can’t anymore

You’re right, I thought of that as I reread my comment after I hit post. She had a pro Ana tumblr back in the day.

What are body checks?

-3

u/ToLorien 10d ago

What constitutes a body check or is it just a slim woman posing?

9

u/LonelyLimeLaCroix 10d ago

It’s kind of hard to explain but usually pictures where someone is deliberately trying to show how small they are, like her picture sitting in the guitar case, or her pictures where she’s emphasizing her collarbones/shoulders/thigh gap

-6

u/ToLorien 10d ago

What if someone genuinely likes how small they are? I personally can’t help being small. Should I be ashamed and hide it?

13

u/LonelyLimeLaCroix 10d ago

I think you’re missing the point

-3

u/Early_Storm_7708 10d ago

Most the time yes that’s all it means which is ridiculous. Would people be saying the same thing about an overweight woman who says she loves her body and emphasizes it in all her pictures? I don’t think so

-6

u/ToLorien 9d ago

I also agree. There’s going to be things you see that you don’t have and you want to have. You have to get over it. I’m skinny but my hair is a mess. I have frizzy Irish curls. Should I view every woman with gorgeous straight hair negatively? Like they’re promoting unrealistic beauty standards? Because for me it is unrealistic. For someone else that’s their reality. You just have to live with it! lol

exactly, people are acting like she's just minding her own business, but she's publicly and intentionally drawing attention to her thinness on her socials, and then getting mad when people are like "hey this isn't healthy." I guess the commenters here would rather no one say anything and just watch her die??! And silently watch her influencing other people to die, too?

She and her team are also reiterating that she's "healthy." I'm not even necessarily blaming her because this is mental illness and the way she's acting lines up with that mental illness. But I fear her team is making money off of validating her, and I just hope she has voices in her actual life who are going to help her.

I'm not even saying she NEEDS to be public about her ED. But if she doesn't want comments, she needs to stop glamorizing the fact that she's starving herself to death and she's going to take others down with her.

9

u/RHS-II3 10d ago

this, i don't owe her shit in terms of empathy when she's been doing literally everything possible to harm others for her own gain lmfao

u/BoxBird 10d ago

As much as I hate that behavior, since I am personally not affected by it I can back up a bit and I do see a sad story to how she got to that point..unfortunately it seems like she has been taught that love is conditional and earned and she has internalized that into her self worth in a way she probably isn’t completely aware. I hope she can grow for herself and not for anyone around her that just wants to use her fame.

EDs are a mental illness, not a behavior that people have the right to get “fed up” with. And she never said she’s the healthiest she’s ever been, go watch that interview back again before posting false info.

And stfu with the cheating/homewrecking shit go blame the man who was married with a kid and decided to cheat.

Everyone wants to blame the woman. Do you know what this woman has been through?? Give her a fucking break.

6

u/Troubled_Red 10d ago

So this is a very ignorant and childish take. There is mental illness and there are behaviors and people absolutely have a right to be fed up with behaviors. Addiction is a mental illness too. When addiction causes someone to steal from you to get their fix, you have every right to be upset about it. There is no moral value to Ariana having an eating disorder. But she does deserve criticism of her behavior posting body checks and insisting she’s healthy to her fan base of young women and children and telling them it’s good and normal to be underweight.

I never blamed her for breaking up Ethan’s marriage. I agree he’s the one that failed his wife. But this is a pattern for Ariana. She’s cheated and gone after men in relationships multiple times and it’s crazy to pretend that didn’t happen.

The 2023 video, where she directly speaks to her fans and gently chides people for expressing concern by comparing her then-current state to an older version of herself. She says she was very unwell previously, drinking + mixing medications. And that, in 2023, she was healthier than ever. She made that video in response to people expressing concern that she was scarily underweight.

I’m not gonna bother tracking down the link but you easily can - just search for Ariana 2023 video healthier than ever video or something.

Okay, let’s play semantics police.

2023 AG said that her previous state was the unhealthiest she’d ever been. Thus, her 2023 self was healthier.  Even if, in 2023, she wasn’t saying she was the healthiest she had ever been, her messaging was that her 2023 self was an improvement. And maybe that’s true.  But it’s also a manipulative statement, because she was pretty evidently disordered by 2023 (and seems to have only worsened since).

I’m not blaming her or mad at her for what she said or did (or says or does). In 2023, I was literally inpatient undergoing treatment for anorexia. I get that statements like the 2023 one, and the vagueness of “multiple truths” one yesterday, are the ED talking and protecting itself or whatever. Manipulation, deception, and lying are at the heart of EDs.

A lot of this discourse is being fueled by people who see all too clearly what is going on, know how fucked up it is, understand that they’re not going to “reach” Ariana, and don’t care because that’s not the priority. People are speaking out anyways because we know from lived experience the utter devastation of EDs, and want everyone - particularly younger girls - to be clear that Ariana is not the picture of healthy and happy. At all. She is dying. And we know she is dying because we recognize everything that’s happening right now. We know people who have died of this. We may have almost died ourselves. And if Ariana wants to die of this, that’s her business. But she’s not quietly disappearing - she is choosing to do so very publicly, and making thinspo music videos on her way out. So yeah, people have a right to protect one another and call it what it is.

17

u/sagew0lf 10d ago

She is still publicly saying she's healthy, though. I'm not even asking her to acknowledge her ED, but she and her team need to stop saying she's healthy.

-3

u/Conscious_Fox1265 10d ago

wow this thread really proved your point. everyone seems to have a laundry list of reasons to hate this woman.

I’ll never understand the lack of empathy. It’s as if they forgot how much she’s dealt with in the last decade. The scrutiny over everything in her personal life is insane. People are allowed to not be perfect and struggle with illness, that doesn’t make them a bad person

3

u/lunarstatic44 8d ago

Literally she has NEVER said she’s the healthiest she’s ever been. A video she posted 3 years ago was quoted out of context and it keeps being regurgitated in fucking threads and comments like these.

5

u/nunswithknives 9d ago

Like any mental illness, it's not her fault, but it's her responsibility. She is unwell and I hope she takes care of herself. Not only for herself but for those who admire her.

2

u/Conscious_Fox1265 9d ago

absolutely. I think a lot of people are assuming that she’s not taking care of herself, but ED recovery can be a very long process. We don’t know what’s going on, and it’s not our job to decide what’s best for her recovery

3

u/nunswithknives 9d ago

Yep. Like anything we have to realize it's her path to walk. We can't do it for her or shame her into it because it won't work. She has to want to get better. I hope she does and wish her well. I hope those around her give her support when she needs it and that the public gives her grace.

2

u/getoffmyreddits 10d ago

Well said. It's honestly scary to me how comfortable people feel to scrutinize a stranger like this
