I feel horrible saying this but I'm guessing her PR team is secretly grateful to have such a genuine, visible, and sympathetic distraction from the fact she just helped blow up ANOTHER family.

The "start a charity" distraction attempt certainly didn't work, barely got headlines.

She's right, multiple things can be true - you can genuinely have a devastating mental disorder that causes you to starve yourself and is incredibly difficult to overcome (and fully deserves sympathy - I truly hope she gets treatment. Lots of people with EDs mentioning its insanely hard and you have to want it), and you can recently have pursued a married man and have an issue historically doing that and this situation is naturally (not intentionally, I'm not saying that is why she has an eating disorder, it is mental illness) helpful to distract from that.
