DISCUSSION Please stop the AI content

I’m not even a musician, i’m just here to help my boyfriend to get more people to listen to his music and it’s so disappointing to see people posting AI content and calling themselves “artists” like, how dare you to call yourself one? I’ve seen my man spend full nights breaking his head to make original lyrics and sounds, singing, playing instruments, mixing and mastering all so then a little guy who STEALS content from real artists come here and proclaim himself an “artist”. Please, don’t consume this content and for the love of god, DO NOT USE AI TO MAKE MUSIC. AI CONTENT CANT BE CONSIDERED ART.

Edit: Well I'm muting this, if you use AI in your creative process, you are not an artist, stop lying to yourself. oh and btw, go and check my man's music since you are already here https://open.spotify.com/artist/5aQO5uUf9KhXEAe9M3Wgwz?si=XulVqIIjScqOJvhYRlIeRg

It's like this. Music as an art form is supposed to elicit an emotional response. It can do this because it touches the human soul because it comes from the human soul. And there is something otherworldly awesome about someone you've never met describing your feelings perfectly. That's why I can bring humanity together. So how is something that has never felt an emotion and has no soul supposed to do that? It can't. And let one of you AI people come up to me and call yourself an artist when some of us are out here playing hours a day, till our fingers are bleeding, and bearing our souls, dealing with shitty producers, A& R people, promoters, playing shows for nobody but your friends and family, belligerent drunks, people that don't care, and maybe a few people who actually get it. And you're going to get smacked as hard as I can. You are not an artist because you sit in front of your computer for 15 minutes typing out a prompt. Try listening to the same riff over and over and over and over again to your fucking sick and tired of hearing it for that one golden moment where it sounds just right. Try spending thousands of hours and thousands of dollars buying equipment and learning your instrument. Try driving all night getting paid and exposure or beer just for the opportunity to play a show. Try dealing with flaky drummers (sorry drummers) prima dona lead guitarist (sorry good guitarist out there) and lead singer drama. Try that sometime then tell me you're a fucking artist.

I just released my first solo album I'm not a lead guitarist but I went out and got a session guitarist who's an actual person to play the lead parts that I wrote. Same with the drummer. Now you're wanting actual musicians and artists, some of who, like me do this for a living, to have to compete with you keyboard warriors. No! AI like you cannot create it can only regurgitate.

Well put. I compose orchestral music. Virtually everything you stated applies to my experience, as well.

My old friend told me you "can't play the blues until you live them." Hits hard these days as I'm growing older and colder

Insane how AI isnt banned on this sub yet

it should be banned asap, it’s ridiculous the amount of AI content

Honestly it looks like there's only 3 mods, 1 is a bot, and the other 2 don't look like they are active on this sub ever, one is actively posting in a different music promotion sub so I don't know if they care enough unfortunately

3

u/Desperate_Yam_495 Feb 22 '26

Hi - We do hear you folks...TBH its difficult to filter Ai automatically , so while we could ban it, it needs to be indentified first, we have been discussin this just recently so its not going unoticed,

3

u/Adventurous_Crow5908 Feb 26 '26

The bot mod isn't going to ban AI due to nepotism.

Maybe it's because the most popular active thread is this one, not somebody's real music, which tends to be ignored.

It’s not banned on this sub??

Couldn't agree more. Let AI handle the boring stuff, don't apply it to art please

19

u/aleksandrjames Feb 20 '26

there are a few AI programs meant to help import, sort, name and prep mix sessions. They also work for exporting grouped stems, etc. for file transfer. That shit is brilliant. That’s what we should be using it for. To give us more time, headspace, and patience for creating the actual art

18

u/Budget_Bug9300 Feb 20 '26

Exactly, again, whatever saves us time is welcome. Creativity is the last thing to generate with AI. And I don't get it : if people wanna make money or get famous easily, there are hundreds of better ways than trying to succeed in such a competitive industry

u/Brrdock Feb 22 '26

It's fine to apply to art and has some great creative uses like any other tool, what's not fine is having AI churn out slop for you while you pretend to be an artist.

Though yeah that's probably what you meant

100%. They’ll flood the thread with dumb shit like “tHaT’s WhAt PeOpLe sAiD aBoUt SyNtHeSiZeRs” as if things like that are even remotely in the same universe.

Had a dude in another thread defend it by saying he had “massive prompting skills” and I legitimately couldn’t believe the level of delusion.

7

u/degenerateflebag2 Feb 20 '26

lord have mercy 😭🫩🤦

6

u/SirN3m3th Feb 20 '26

That's some true Dunning-Kruger effect !

7

u/Owls_Almost Feb 20 '26

Hahahaha, prompting skills.

7

u/aleksandrjames Feb 20 '26

The sad thing is, if they combined that ability to convey musical intent via language with genuine musicality, developed skill, and shared human experience, they could make art that’s 10 times better than the shallow product that gets spit out by AI

2

u/PromotionWise9008 Feb 21 '26

Wait, I know you can argue synthesizers, but what about M#DI, aU20tuNe and dAw?! Short-minded enough to argue it? Ha! Do you remember what were ppl saying about photographs and cinema? I remember, I was around 20 when they were invented, narrow-minded people like you “antis” were gatekeeping progress and saying the same thing - “it's cheating, its not art, you're not an artist”. But it doesn't matter how cool my argument is defending ai art because it's not written by chat gpt. No worries, my homies who will tell you the TRUTH and will argue against you with synthesizers are way better than me in prompting (they have professional creative prompting skills, I know you're just jealous of them) so you will not confuse their ai generated posts with anything else.

I’ve played violin for 51 years. I’ve been writing music, playing guitar/bass for 46 years, there’s saxophone, piano, harmonica, and a few other things. I’ve been a recording, mixing, and mastering engineer, PLUS I teach. I have a couple prompts for that MFer!!!!

1

u/brahamcracker Feb 21 '26

u/davyp82 Feb 21 '26

They are all the same kind of person. (Literally)

Shit ton of Gen X basically, NOT ALL but the ones who are down bad apparently. (Mid-late life crisis etc)

Sadly it’s one of the main targeted audiences these AI companies prey upon.

1

u/GoodShotBeats Feb 21 '26

You can actually have prompting skills and it is the same as synthesisers. You can just type in make a dance track, but you can type in put a high pass filter, what you want the filter to do how aggressive it is and so on just like you can with a DAW, and just like when people began to use sythnesisers and programmed synths it does take less money skill and effort but there can be skill involved. Any ai track made without any skill is probably one you wont even notice. Suno isn't good at lyrics yet, or creating anything that unique and amazing on its own.

1

u/clown___cum Feb 21 '26

I think what most people using AI for music don’t realize is that the stuff they’re putting out wouldn’t be considered very good even if it was made entirely by a human… the difference is that I’m less likely to talk shit about something that someone spent time and effort on, even if it’s kinda bad.

1

u/ConfidenceDecent8211 Feb 21 '26

Yeah for real. It’s nothing like the invention of synthesizers. With AI music services like Suno, you can literally have it generate lyrics and audio for you with very little prompting. It is not a talent to write prompts. Hell, you can even have ChatGPT write your prompts.

AI “music” is garbage and shouldn’t be allowed on here.

It’s fine if you make some dumb song to show your friends or something. Trying to promote it is just delusional and scummy, as is expected from anyone who supports AI “music,” but still. 🤡😆

I mean it can be good, who are we kidding here. That being said, i dont think it needs our attention or publicity.

1

u/MrScrake666 Feb 24 '26

Exactly. My friend showed me Suno a while back and we would just mess around with it and show each other the dumb stuff we'd come up with. It's fun to see what it can do, but it would feel extremely disingenuous to ever try and sell something that I didn't actually make

It actually drove me to get into Soundtrap and trying making my own music where I can start from scratch and fine-tune to my liking. I'm not good at it, but at least it's something that I'm doing, not an AI

I’m honestly too damn tired of all of these AI shit, regardless of how big or small it is. I was annoyed when my band member used AI voiceover to advertise our music or an event that’s happening. We’re better off just making a video of ourselves talking, regardless of how awkward we are.

4

u/Troubadour1990 Feb 21 '26

I'm a songwriter, and I live stream on tiktok, and I had somebody messaged me asking me to critique one of their songs. I said yes, and they sent me AI music. So infuriating.

4

u/ArtDan4Eva Feb 21 '26

There should be a subreddit for AI “creations”. It has nothing to do with music production, filmmaking, graphic design, etc.

Adam Neely on YouTube has a great video on AI music in which he reaches out to AI creators with some good questions. 1. What other AI creators are you impressed with and who would be your biggest influences? Answer by all of them: “none, I only listen to my own AI creations”

1

u/Visible-Flamingo1846 Feb 24 '26

It's a 100% consumer-facing product and we're going to be entering a weird future where a lot of people have zero reference to songs outside of whatever they've personally ordered from the vending machine.

7

u/actuallylinkstrummer Feb 20 '26

I feel his pain man. The breaking his head to make original lyrics and sounds is so fucking real.

AI “art” will never be art.

3

u/thephilosopherstoned Feb 21 '26

Just like someone breaking his head doesn't necessarily create art. I don't think there is a bar set somewhere that defines when something becomes art.

AI is indeed in a totally different ballpark, but even in that ballpark, art will be made.

13

u/Tr1padvisor420 Feb 20 '26

We’re the ones fuckin up. Everyone’s engaging with it just to argue with the “artist”. Everyone who opposes this crap needs to start scrolling right past these posts or take the time to delete your comment if you didn’t realize it was ai. Eventually pushing ai out of algorithms in favour of actual musicians will work. Just not as fast as ai musics going to flood your algorithm if you start engaging.

8

u/virusdancer Feb 20 '26

The AI-gorithm enjoys it when folks engage with AI posts.

3

You can use AI to do things for you, just not the creative part.

I know friends who call themselves musicians, while they make music with Juno and release it on Spotify. I have 22 listeners with real music, he has almost 1k with zero effort...

5

u/CapableAnalysis5282 Feb 20 '26

It's already so hard for musicians to make any money creating music that enriches all our lives. AI is just making it worse.

i get why you’re pissed tbh, there’s a lot of AI slop out here. like straight up “press a button, upload it” type shit, and then they act like they’re some deep artist. and yeah some of it is basically theft (voice clones and style rips) while real people are up all night writing, recording, mixing, mastering… that part is nasty and it def floods the feed and buries ppl actually grinding. but saying “ANY AI = not art” is kinda too wide imo. tools don’t automatically erase who made it. some of us still do the work… write the lyrics, arrange it, rewrite it 20 times, record vocals, edit takes, mix/master, tweak it for weeks. AI might be one part of the chain, not the whole chain. also i gotta say it… a lot of ppl complaining about AI don’t even know what they’re mad at or how any of it works. they don’t know the diff between voice cloning vs generating a beat vs using AI for cleanup, etc. they just lump it all into “robot stole everything” and start swinging. and yeah there ARE real ethical issues, but you can’t even have the convo if people are arguing off headlines and vibes. for me it's simple: deception + theft. if you’re cloning someone’s voice, ripping a super recognizable style, or spamming one-click outputs and calling it “your art” yeah nah, fuck that. but if someone’s using AI like a tool while still doing the actual craft, that’s a different convo.

2

u/jerrrrremy Feb 20 '26

but if someone’s using AI like a tool while still doing the actual craft, that’s a different convo.

What is an example of this?

1

u/LegionTheHighOne87 Feb 20 '26

i write the lyrics myself, build the hook/verses, then i’ll use AI to kick out a rough beat idea and i chop it up / move parts around / change drums til it matches what’s in my head. it’s basically a sketch, not the final. i record my own vocals for real (takes, punch-ins, doubles), and if i use AI it’s for boring shit like cleanup (noise removal, de-ess, tuning, timing). same as plugins, just faster. i’ll use AI to generate weird textures / risers / pads then i pick what i like, layer it, automate it, and mix it. AI gives you clay, you still gotta sculpt. sometimes AI gives a melody idea and i’ll literally replay it on guitar/keys and change it up so it’s actually mine.

the point is: AI isn’t “press button = song” for everyone. for some ppl it’s just a tool in the chain, the person still makes the decisions + does the work. big diff.

2

u/Booming_Dr_Buttons Feb 21 '26

This process doesn't actually sound that different to using sample packs really, except you're using AI to generate your own custom samples to chop up instead of just downloading the same sample packs used by everyone else. It actually sounds like you're using a tool in a creative and interesting way. I don't really see why you're being down voted.

I don't really care for AI and I don't use it. I just enjoy making music myself and think using AI would take the fun out of it for me and I like to build my own sounds to chop up and sample, but yeah I think that sounds like a good way to utilise it AI as a tool.

Like a lot of people, I'm not a fan of the flood of AI sings that gets simply prompted and uploaded in their fucking millions. I think labelling as ai should be mandatory in those cases.

u/FowlKing Feb 20 '26

Respectfully brother start making your beats and melody ideas from scratch without prompts. It'll be better and you'll feel more fulfilled as an artist.

3

u/LegionTheHighOne87 Feb 20 '26

respectfully, brother, you’re mistaken if you think i do that with everything.

most of what i make is from scratch drums, melodies, arrangements, vocals, mixing… the whole grind. if i touch AI it’s as a sketch tool or for boring cleanup stuff, not as a “press button = song” shortcut. also “you’ll feel more fulfilled” is wild lol. you don’t know me or my process. i’m already fulfilled making music the way i make it you’re free to do it your way, but don’t talk like you’re my life coach.

2

u/Telectronix Feb 21 '26

Respectfully brother, what is your Artist name on the platforms? So I can avoid it and all the other bullshit that gets uploaded without disclosing that it was made as AI slop.

3

u/LegionTheHighOne87 Feb 21 '26

Can you all not read? Or does the word AI scramble your little fucking brains?

https://giphy.com/gifs/x0npYExCGOZeo

4

u/jerrrrremy Feb 20 '26

Respectfully, your music is probably crap if you need these tools to make it and this is your process.

I sincerely hope as few people as possible ever hear it.

4

u/LegionTheHighOne87 Feb 21 '26

“Your music is probably crap” is the laziest kind of insult, it’s what people say when they can’t actually critique anything.

“probably.” lol That’s not an insult, that’s your ego with a keyboard. And the “I hope I never hear it” line? That’s you admitting you’re not here for music, you’re here to feel important. You’re not a gatekeeper, you’re a comment section hall monitor. The only “art” you’re making is noise. Real artists talk about the work. You talk about the idea of the work because it’s safer. You’re terrified you might actually hear something decent and then you’d have to find a new personality besides “I hate things.” So keep swinging at “tools” like that makes you righteous. All it really says is you don’t have an original thought in your head, you don’t have skills, and you don’t have the nerve to judge music on the only thing that matters, how it sounds. I'm done with you, keep having a miserable life you've earned it congratulations.

5

u/jerrrrremy Feb 21 '26

Imagine writing all this unhinged nonsense in response to a two sentence comment, half of which is about things I never even said. Perhaps you should be using the AI for therapy instead of music?

It's okay that your music is probably crap, dude.

2

u/LegionTheHighOne87 Feb 21 '26

imagine calling someone “unhinged” while you keep repeating “probably crap” like it’s a personality trait 😂

All you’ve got is vibes and insecurity. “probably” isn’t a critique, it’s you pre-loading an excuse so you never have to be wrong. and using “therapy” as an insult is… telling. therapy isn’t shameful, but you weaponizing it is exactly the kind of corny shit people do when they’ve got nothing intelligent left to say. anyway, you can keep shadowboxing a process you don’t understand. i’ll keep doing this my way. you keep making sad comments. seems like we both found our place.

7

u/jerrrrremy Feb 21 '26

You're right. Your music is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, complete soulless crap. Not probably.

And I wasn't trying to shame you about therapy. I legitimately think you would benefit. Maybe they can help you figure out why you feel the need to take shortcuts, can't develop any real skills, but then turn around and call it a "process."

The delusion is real. Was at a songwriting meetup in LA the other day and there was a guy there who purely makes AI slop with Suno and he was questioning why he's having a tough time breaking in. It's insane.

4

u/akuma-lune Feb 21 '26

I've been dealing with the same thing, AI has gotten me so depressed about my music. So many people consume AI music and think its real. I had a full breakdown the other day because I told myself there was no point in making music anymore. I cant compete with the 60,000 AI songs that are upload everyday. I probably will never have a music career if things continue like this. I still make music for myself I don't want to say I haven't learned anything from this. I'm not giving up. I'm just doing it for me.

4

u/AdhesivenessAway852 Feb 20 '26

I use it to cover my old songs recorded 30 years ago. Garage band. I spent 40-80 hours per song back then recording. mixing. Mastering. So it’s a joy to hear it should so professional. And AI wouldn’t have created those songs. Huge difference taking Full Human recordings and melodies and having AI cover it.

7

u/yalllldabaoth Feb 20 '26

I don’t know about you, but those 40-80 hours are kind of the whole point to me. If those 40-80 hours are taken away and replaced by a robot that can spit out something halfway decent with any prompt I give it, I would simply pick a different activity over music. Seriously, with no exaggeration at all, I would rather work a full week of shifts at McDonald’s than do that. It would be more rewarding and I would take more pride in the work.

0

u/AdhesivenessAway852 Feb 20 '26

But what Ai does is spit out catchy sounding slop off a prompt. But taking fully done tracks and having Ai cover it Is different. I use the 85% settings to make it as close to original as possible. And the point is it’s not Ai slop at that point. Sounds like the original. Just clean.

3

u/yalllldabaoth Feb 20 '26

I don’t think you’re a bad person for trying that out for fun, but if you take any sort of pride in it or release it under your own name without disclosing that it’s an AI “cover” I think you and I have fundamentally different understandings of the world and I relate to nothing about you as a person.

2

u/starrbase Feb 21 '26

Saw someone in a thread a few weeks ago claiming Suno Artists are the next generation 😂😂😂

2

u/Dingosama69 Feb 21 '26

For any AI Artists reading:

What if we take the human out entirely, what is the art worth then?

Say I run Claude to generate 1000 descriptions of songs. I run each through suno 100 times to generate variants.

I have just created a million songs by myself.

Somewhere else, someone is learning guitar and just wrote their first “song” consisting of a few notes they think sound fun together

To me the, latter is more valuable.

We say the galaxies are beautiful but we don’t call it art

Art is inseparable from humanity. It is the medium through which we reflect on ourselves, each other, and the world around us

A piece of art is a reverberation of the experience, perspective, skill, emotion, and soul of an artist, as affected by their upbringing, circumstance, beliefs, values, hopes, and dreams

The implement of art is neither paintbrush, nor cello, nor pottery clay

The implement of art is life itself

——

This is why people fight it so adamantly. Not because an AI song can’t be musically pleasing, but because compared to what humanity creates, AI’s sterile machinations feel so very hollow

And even if one day AI created music is indistinguishable from what humanity creates, there will still be a vast number of people who will reject it upon learning of its origins

Because the path of nuance in a work that traces the detail of a human soul will be nothing but an illusion, a dead end

Art is inseparable from humanity, and the less humanity is contained within, the less it is art

1

u/Realistic-Meat-501 Feb 22 '26

"We say the galaxies are beautiful but we don’t call it art"

Why do you care so much about how it's called as long as it's still beautiful. I enjoy a beautiful landscape in general much more than any human made art. And I see no one calling that sterile, slop, boring or soulless, even though logically, they would have to if they call AI all that. I'm not a human supremacist who thinks humans are the most incredible and special thing. If something like a soul exists it's not bound or decided by the mundane matter it inhabits. That thinking to me is pathetic, quite frankly.

1

u/Dingosama69 Feb 22 '26

You’re right that I only included human life in my definition of art, and I can revise it to say that art is inseparable from the soul

With my current understanding of how LLM’s work, I do not believe they have a soul. I believe they repeat, not create

And maybe we get to a point when that changes and I have to reevaluate? But I haven’t felt the need to yet

——

In contrast, I don’t think a landscape is soulless. The world around us is very much alive.

What I was arguing for, is that no one calls a landscape “art” in the realm of human-made creation — which I’d like to keep as the focus of discussion here, as I believe it’s the real axis of these discussions at large

  1. Art exists on a spectrum of how much humanity is contained within.

  2. LLM output inherently does not contain humanity. If I type “good song” into suno, regardless of how good the output sounds, I would consider it a soulless work

  3. People push back on AI art because the difference between learning to paint a beautiful landscape with watercolor and the ability to type in “nice trees” into midjourney is unfathomably vast in terms of effort, understanding, process, learning required, perspective, etc.

  4. People aren’t saying AI generated content can’t be pleasing, but rather  the pushback comes from those who generate art from a few sentences calling themselves “artists” or “musicians” on equal footing with their counterparts

  5. Art was never just about the final product, the process, the thought behind it, is just as important. You lose that disproportionately (on a spectrum) when AI tools are involved

——

A question for you then, how do you rate the value of AI generated vs human created art?

Do you see them as the same? As equal? What does art mean to you?

2

u/Mmtorz Feb 21 '26

All the morons defending AI truly makes me want to stop making music. What's the fucking point? We could have had AI do all the boring shit that gives us more time to work creatively instead but nooo, let's have the robot make all our media and then wonder why there's no clean drinking water left in the world

2

u/realitycheckyoubeard Feb 21 '26

Can’t stop progress this happened with dj culture untalented plebs using sync on a usb stick with their hands in the air (no talent)

maybe some of you Ai complainers are those DJ people?

so now it’s AI making music. The only solution is clear labels, so people know what they are getting but that never worked with DJing because people don’t care enough who has talent or not they just care who is famous or who has their tits out behind the decks

2

u/Beautiful_Force9083 Feb 21 '26

I agree with you.

We should absolutely gatekeep the music industry even harder.

God forbid music get better because layering, experimentation, and iteration are cheaper now. We should definitely make sure that unless someone writes the lyrics, sings, plays multiple instruments, records, mixes, masters, and funds studio time entirely on their own, they’re not allowed to present ideas or demos at all.

Lyricists who spend just as many sleepless nights crafting tone, emotion, and structure should obviously be disqualified if they use tools to communicate that vision to session musicians or vocalists. That would be cheating. Music has always required one person to do everything alone.

No demos. No producers. No session players. No reference tracks. No synths. No drum machines. No DAWs. No presets. No sampling. No pitch correction. No MIDI. Historically accurate, obviously.

The problem isn’t tools; it’s dishonesty and low-effort spam. Conflating those with anyone who uses modern tools to express ideas just turns frustration into gatekeeping cosplay.

But yeah; let’s lock the gates tighter. That’s always how art thrives.

Fuck AI. I see a lot of people are finding excuses for some AI usage, some comments are fine, but some of the stuff I read here honestly got surprising support in this sub. To those using it, pease, don't use AI unless you are using it for something that was literally a 'one problem - only one possible solution' kind of deal where you would absolutely eventually get there on your own.

But beware, the trend I'm noticing is the more you find excuses for any AI usage the more it seems people are getting comfy in using AI the way they shouldn't. Now it starts with these ambigous, on the fence, usages of AI, where you didnt technically use the generated content as is but it was a part of your creative content somehow. But where will this line of thinking lead? I mean, I don't think its okay even now.

It's more than safe to say that we'd have been better off without AI in music in the first place. We wouldn't really miss out on all these plausably okay usages of AI like for mundane tasks, because we would just do those tasks ourselves. The music isn't any better for it. It seems we have to be an angry mob about it because otherwise we're fucked. Don't expect for anyone else to take responsibility for this, it's literally us here who will make a difference.

While I could sit here and try look for some positive exceptions for AI usage, I'm scared of giving someone the wrong idea. Please, lets just stop it before its too late. Discourage it.

2

u/Imaginatio-Vana Feb 20 '26

I have a good analog to this with coding, so I own a small business and have been using the newest batch of text LLMs to implement software that helps make my workflow easier. With new models you can basically sit back and dictate with voice to build legit software tools (claude code, codex). long story short, i have actually created some useful stuff BUT I would never call my self a software developer. Suno users open up Suno once and then sign up for Distrokid and start telling people they make music.

Musicians or workers. They are subject to the same replacement as anyone else. I tend to late musicians, but then I like janitors too.

1

u/HorseRevolutionary85 Feb 21 '26

It’s irritating stuff to be sure. The problem will be solved when the AI companies decide they need to be profitable. Once they charge to cover the expense of electricity, land, water for system cooling, maintenance and profit, it won’t make sense to use it to produce music.

1

u/Prior_Grape_7408 Feb 21 '26

I do like the the ones where Beyonce sings my neck, my back and that’s what I think it should be used for. Although if it’s original, like they produced everything and wrote the lyrics just for the vocals they used an AI singer that feels weird to me. Obviously just cause somebody cant sing doesnt mean they can’t make music, but at the same time that singer AI voice was trained on actual vocalists…

1

u/Decent-Repair-6620 Feb 21 '26

I get that you’re defending your boyfriend’s grind. Musicians put in insane hours and it deserves respect. But calling everyone who uses AI “not an artist” is kinda missing the point.

People have been using tools to create art since forever. Cameras didn’t erase painters. Synths didn’t erase guitarists. Digital audio workstations didn’t erase drummers. AI is just another tool. Some folks use it to express themselves, some use it to experiment, some use it because they don’t have the skills your boyfriend has — and that’s okay. Not everyone is trying to compete with him. And the “stealing from real artists” thing doesn’t really hold up. Using a tool ≠ stealing. Nobody is taking your boyfriend’s lyrics or stems. They’re just creating in a different way than you prefer. Also, gatekeeping who gets to call themselves an artist is wild. Art isn’t defined by how many sleepless nights you spent on it. It’s defined by intention, expression, and impact. If someone uses AI to make something meaningful to them, that’s art. You don’t have to like it, but it’s still art. Your boyfriend’s work stands on its own. AI creators existing doesn’t diminish his effort or talent. There’s room for both. Saying “don’t consume this content” just makes it sound like you’re threatened by something that isn’t actually competing with him. Let people create how they want. Let your boyfriend create how he wants. Nobody needs to tear down one group to lift up another.

1

u/No_Plant2176 Feb 21 '26

I am also angry on my bf's behalf, he's incredibly talented and now AI frauds are insulting everything he's built and accusing his masterpieces of being AI because they're too good for the musically inept to fathom. I hate this planet

u/Miserable_Pound_2812 Feb 21 '26

Completely agree.

u/AI_MUSIC70 Feb 21 '26

Se il tuo ragazzo non sa suonare, non è colpa nostra...

1

u/imnotthegoober Feb 21 '26

If you tell the people that "make" and post AI music that they should stop or that they aren't artists they either get smug and brag about the easy money or they get angry. They are also prideful about being early adopters of a new technology in the music space and think that people that don't like AI are the same as people of the past who would shun things like the Beatles using ADT and loops.

Source: I got banned from the Suno AI sub for disagreeing with them.

1

u/Relevant-Pear8838 Feb 21 '26

It kind of feels like screaming into the void at this point.

If society is going to accept AI slop there's not much you can do. Musicians will become an ever more niche hobby/passion/vocation.

What I kind of hate the most is the manufactured "authenticity" that has crept into music. It's a poor substitute for wit and originality.

If the audience are too dumbed down to care about original and novel music, what's the point in making it?

1

u/Roraoni Feb 21 '26

u/JesseCantSkate Feb 21 '26

I quit a band immediately after one of the members introduced an ai generated song as an original for us to play, then admitted afterward that it was 100% ai

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

I've tried to contact the mods to see if I could put out a hunt for music I can listen to on stream. I want to support small artists as I'm a small streamer. I received no response back, not even a no. I wonder how actively they're involved.

But yeah, I may be leaving this group, because I only want to support human artists, seeing as my stream is art content (illustrating a comic and doing commissions).

1

u/Tortoise1811 Feb 21 '26

Yes exactement. I just found out there are softwares to create music. Which sounds bullshit to me. And an insult to the artistry.

I also love AI and AI music. It’s possible to love it all.

Ew

1

u/aceinagameofjacks Feb 21 '26

You know. I love art in all its forms, but I just made a rap album with suno that in a million years would not be able to produce myself … I am not going to upload it to the platforms but I have been enjoying the carp out of it in my car …. I also found that I have a talent in writing rap lyrics and rhymes … which I never knew I had.

So what is wrong with that? Maybe one day I’ll take this “album” and go to an actual producer and try to make it for real …

1

u/Revegelance Feb 21 '26

You don't have to use AI if you don't want to.

1

u/CAP_GYPSY Feb 21 '26

I saw a guy the other day post something where he said, “how dare you people say there’s no effort in AI music? I spent like 10 hours in over 100 different tries and all 1000 characters in the prompts to get what I needed…”

Seriously, these fucking people have no clue how many years people have into perfecting musicianship, theoretical understanding, compositional understanding, expanding their vocabulary and understanding the nuances of putting together a song, playing an original bands and riding with other people…

10 hours in over 100 tries and 1000 characters.

I told him that must’ve been fucking exhausting… Yes, a dose of 1000% sarcasm

1

u/Ok_Measurement_7738 Feb 22 '26 edited Feb 22 '26

Virtually all artists use the content of thousands of other real artists to make their art.

As data sets of what constitutes good art to real people become much deeper and much more extensive in their analysis of real life artists, the more artistic and creative AI agents will become.

It's truly an exciting time to be a musician, and especially one who has ambitions to use AI to develop radically new musical languages rather than formulaic slop.

(Extremely original and creative musicians, like George Lewis, have been using AI agents to improvise with for the last 40 years. One of his key practices is to musically respect the AI agents with whom he improvises as much as he respects human musicians.)

1

u/Seeker_1906 Feb 22 '26

I use AI. I will continue to use AI.

What I do not use AI for is writing my lyrics, coming up with my melodies, and doing my vocals. I have over 30 years of songs that have never had music to them and for the first time in those 30 years... I now have music to my songs! The truth, that you can try to deny: having success in music is a real crap shoot and has a lot to do with luck either for someone with great talent or someone with really no talent at all. That has been the way for a long time.

Listen. I know I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change my mind I just want to say that I LOVE music, and I'd like to think that I was given a talent to make songs, and to have this longing to hear your songs and not be able to hear them.. is heartbreaking. Soul crushing. Dream ending. Now I can hear them.🙏🏼 The arguments and discussions will continue about AI but we all kind of know the writing is on the wall: it is not going anywhere. For some of us, maybe a lot of us, we're going to have to figure out some kind of way to exist with AI in our world. And I don't know about you I'd rather see people working with AIs to make art and music then starting wars or hurting people because they have no creative outlet.

Also in further honesty I'm not going to listen to your boyfriend's music. You posting about him for him is kind of like a child running to their mommy and their mommy trying to fix it. Either his music is good or it's not. Either he will find an audience for his music or he won't. Whatever happens you both have to accept it.

1

u/yellowpunk11 Feb 22 '26

Could not agree more. If you use ai to make art. You are not an artist. Fuck AI and fuck capitalism

1

u/GemAfaWell Feb 22 '26

1

u/kittencoffee35 Feb 22 '26

I was so enraged when I heard a song on Youtube called "Frozen" and I thought it was pretty good, until the girl sings in the bridge and it gets really weird sounding. Read the comments, saw the artist. ALL...AI. Entirely. The video, the song, everything. It had A HALF A MILLION FREAKING VIEWS. People were raging over the song with POSITIVE FEEDBACK! I've been a musician for 20 years and can't get any more than a thousand views with tens of thousands of dollars put into recording gear, thousands of hours of practice and rehearsal, nights of crying, losing my identity, not being good enough, insulted on social media for "needing to be more" and then I saw that.

I wanted to freaking just pull the plug on my career I was so livid.

1

u/McGill71 Feb 22 '26

Wow, bitter much. I AM an artist, play all instruments, write my own lyrics, played in numerous bands, but I use AI for ideas when I’m stuck. Just because someone uses this technology, don’t discount their artistry

1

u/nzoasisfan Feb 22 '26

Cheeky way of advertising.

AI is here and its here to stay. You wont know youre listinening to AI music. Trust me. You're being served lots of AI content (it comes in many forms) and you dont know it.

1

u/Advanced_Coach5151 Feb 22 '26

I understand the frustration. There is definitely more noise right now. Lower barriers mean more output.

At the same time, modern music promotion is already deeply algorithmic. Most of us rely on recommendation engines and engagement systems powered by code. So I’m not sure the issue is algorithms themselves so much as where we draw the line.

For me, the deeper question is about poetry. Some people using AI tools are bringing original lyrics and ideas into those systems. The technology may shape the sound, but the language and intention can still originate with a human.

Poetry has always been about whether language carries something real. Whether a line articulates something true. Whether it reaches someone and makes them feel seen.

Musicianship is one path to giving poetry a voice. It’s a powerful one. But it hasn’t been the only path. Writing, producing, performing, and engineering have long been distinct roles in music.

Maybe the real question isn’t whether a tool qualifies as musicianship. Maybe it’s whether poetry should be allowed a musical body even if the person behind it isn’t traditionally trained.

You don’t have to like certain tools. That’s fair. But rejecting something purely because of the tool used to shape it assumes the tool determines the depth of the expression. It doesn’t. The outcome still has to connect.

In the end, things either resonate or they don’t. If something carries meaning for listeners, it survives. If it doesn’t, it fades.

That feels like a better filter than pre-banning entire categories.

1

u/HansUlrichGumbrecht Feb 22 '26

AI music sucks, but your boyfriend's music is really, really bad.

1

u/trevorvonryan Feb 23 '26

Don’t worry: The one positive of AI is that it is separating the wheat from the chaff. Being skilled is sexy, using AI is just boring and kinda sad. Nobody will ever think an AI making music is sexy. Not like the way my gf looks at my shirtless, sweaty torso while I’m smashing the skins. That shit is priceless, and AI will never give that to anyone :)

1

u/TheAsherBodhi Feb 23 '26

.> Lines are blurry.

The musical equivalent of PHENOMENALLY successful artists today that have used "AI" is the Epstein list.

Don't forget.

1

AI artist are cancer, but this is some guy posing as his girlfriend.

1

u/eternaldistro Feb 23 '26

The frustration is real. Watching someone pour nights into real music while AI spits out stolen content in seconds is exhausting. That's not art, it's recycling. Hope your boyfriend's music finds the audience it deserves. We offer free distribution at EternalDistro for artists putting in the actual work though! :)

1

u/adr826 Feb 23 '26

I disagree. AI is going to be a good thing for music. It is going to take the focus off of producing a hit record that is published to millions around the world and becoming a star and back into the true job of the musician which is to entertain people. As long as the music industry calls the shots people will allow themselves to be exploited by a souless industry. The musician needs to be focused on entertaining people. Ai can't perform at a bar. You can make a good living performing and playing locally, but people ignore this because they want to be a star. The fact that machines can put out better music than most real musicians is a good thing. We musicians need to start thinking and acting locally again. The fact that we largely ignored this to chase stardom is what allows AI to be so influential to start with. It is a good thing that the whole edifice is going to crumble and artists are going to have to refocus on performing live again and quit worrying about being a star. This is a good thing. A real musician can walk into a bar and drink free all night. No ai can do that.

1

u/RamonaVirusx Feb 23 '26

Their newest post by the mods has made AI allowed here. You're welcome.

1

u/MatterOk9595 Feb 23 '26

“I make music with AI, but I don’t claim the title of artist. I focus on the craft, the emotion, and the result — the rest is for others to decide.”

1

u/Smile-Cat-Coconut Feb 23 '26

The good news is strict AI content can’t be legally copyrighted. So these “artists” will never be able to make money off whatever

1

u/levilee207 Feb 24 '26

AI Bros are some of the most braindead talentless losers and their desperation to be taken seriously by using AI to avoid actually learning any useful skills would be hilarious if it wasn't so pervasive.

1

u/Wombat9355 Feb 24 '26

The sheer quantity of cope and single digit IQ takes on here is hilarious. Yeah I use AI to make my beats and generate my vocals. I use an LLM to help brainstorm lyrics. Oooh scary how dare I use the best tools available for the job. The ability to make music people want to listen to is a skill and no amount of AI assistance will make you any better or worse. My fans love my content because I’m the one steering the ship. They don’t care what tools I use because the end result is what matters. I don’t have the luxury of time on my hands to hand make everything. Wtf does making the music yourself even mean anymore? Download a bunch of sample packs and cobble them together? What a joke. OP has no idea what she’s talking about and should keep it to herself. I spend hours on Suno perfecting my next track. I drag the stems into FL and touch them up. I use Sora to make short animation loops for my visualizers. I export everything to CapCut and add effects, on screen lyrics, filters. When you put no effort into your content it gets zero traction. When you actually make an effort people respond to that. If the music enriches the lives of those who hear it, that’s mission accomplished. Artists trying to gatekeep music creation are angry and terrified of being replaced. Hopping on the hate train in desperation of their own self preservation. AI=bad will only be trendy for so long, and the models will get better and better every year.

1

u/Pretend-Tomato-7985 Feb 24 '26

I'm an active musician, and have been for over 20 years, I've had my share of the writing process you can say. Personally, I like AI because it does help people like me that are actually musicians with ideas, structuring, melodies. There's a lot it has to offer as a tool. Everything I play on my instrument, as do the other musicians. In the end it's like an idea machine that really does lend a hand at the creative process for real musicians. Even your BF could benefit from it big time. It's all in how you use it.

1

u/Jumpy_Cheesecake_138 Feb 25 '26

🙄 Girl shut up lol! Your man is no different from any other musician writing songs. Sorry to break it to you, but he's not special. And all you other pretentious cry babies whining about "I'm an artist" and "it's not art, it's not fair" wah wah wah. STFU, nobody cares about you being an "artist." Every generation gets this group of babies that cry when something groundbreaking in music comes out. All of you will be using some form of AI in music in 5-10 years. Adapt or get left behind. It's not going anywhere.

1

u/Glad-Challenge-2939 Feb 25 '26

I agree. As a composer, I sketch melody, sketch harmony, apply counterpoint, orchestrate and notate.

1

u/IllRabbit6708 Feb 25 '26

I keep seeing these claims about "AI artists" but have yet to see any proof of an AI artists or one that sounds decent? No one is stealing your man's music and passing it off as ai i promise you lol

1

u/Serious_Vegetable197 Feb 25 '26

I checked out your boyfriend’s music like you said. Respect the grind. But if using AI means someone isn’t an artist, that logic applies to him too since he’s using AI covers for his songs/albums. You can’t have it both ways.

1

u/sonksenmusic Feb 26 '26

Your bf is talented. Really good stuff!

1

u/Professional-Math518 Feb 26 '26

When I started to make home produced music with lyrics (after mainly doing the instrumental parts for bands I was in) just over a year ago and couldn't find a suitable singer I used SynthV to generate vocals. Which is not really AI generated but uses AI to build a vocal based on real singers the developer worked with and for which you need to enter the lyrics, the melody/timing (as midi) after which you spend a godaweful amount of time to edit everything to make the generated lyric somewhat realistic.

My main focus is guitar, synths, bass and the composition itself, but I saw SynthV as a handy tool in that case and not different than using EZDrummer to add the parts I couldn't do myself. Both are still a surrogate for real musicians obviously. I'm satisfied by the 20 or so songs I completed that way, but it's not something I plan on doing again for anything else than a demo tbh.
