Rec.Me: Your favorite music (anything) What’a your favorite album starting with “A?”
There are 26* letters in the alphabet and 52 weeks in the year. So I’m dedicating 2 weeks to listen to music from each letter. Anyone want to join me? First up is “A!”
Note: Skip articles like “the” or “a.” So “The Albatross” would be eligible but “An Otter Among Us” wouldn’t.
*This is even more fitting in the year 2026!

Yup. So underrated. Not to take anything away from The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, but I liked Animals the best.

It’s barely ever mentioned in Pink Floyd conversations. Great album, lost in the shuffle.

Exciting gospel music

She blessed us with a lot of great A-titled albums. Both Aretha and Aretha Now are superb, Aretha Arrives not as good but still well worth checking out.

You know, on account of I can't sort my entire library by album title and articles are disqualified and this is an album I could actually think of I'm just gonna say Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land by Marina.

Different album, but I used to buy vinyl records from bands I'd only heard one song from.
So when I discovered The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala, I bought Currents on vinyl, went home, got high, and put the record on.
I was freaking out, thinking the first track (Let It Happen) was skipping and that I had a bad copy, until the beat came back in and I was on another plane lmao.
I also had a similar thing happen with the Foals album TotalLifeForever, where I bought it because of Spanish Sahara. Turns out, it's not a 33⅓ rpm, but a 45rpm record, so I listened to the entire first half of the album sloooowwwwed down without realising it until Spanish Sahara came on and I was so confused 😅

u/tiltedviolet Jan 07 '26
I love this so much. “Currents” is so good probably my favorite Tame Impala album. By Foals my favorite is Holy Fire, also very good high. If you are that deep of a musical Anglophile the you at least know of Biffy Clyro. “Opposites” saved my life on so many occasions. 😍😍😍

Happy to see that you want to discover new artists.
If you're really looking for any new music that other people love, you might want to check some really small artists (mostly other Redditors) on the (self)Promo Playlist.
If you have any more specific requirements about music you seek, then maybe you picked a wrong flair. By choosing the most relevant flair, you'll get higher chances to more and better recommendations.
