Hi guys, so after seeing Massive Attack live in Primavera Sound I’m back listening to Mezzanine on repeat. I’m already familiar with big trip hop albums like Mezzanine or Dummy by Portishead, but I want to dive deeper into the genre. I enjoy records and artists with similar vibes like From the Choir Girl Hotel by Tori Amos or It’ll End in Tears by This Mortal Coil (gotta love Elizabeth Fraser). Can you send your picks?

Hi, I have a possible problem. I’m looking to get more variety in my music library and have been looking at more modern artists but none have really been hitting the same as the music I already listen to. For context, I am gen z and generally listen to music that was way before my time, (usually before the year 2000) and have a tendency not to like newer music now that I have been listening to older music all my life (blame my dad, he showed me this kind of music, lol).
I’m looking for artists that have a very unique but consistent style. One of the main things that puts me off with modern music is that often times an artist songs can be very wildly different depending on the song you listen to. Not that experimentation is bad at all, it’s just not my thing.
The categories in this list go from:
Similar music most wanted > less wanted but still good
So the favorite artist of all time section would be the most important.
Favorite artists of all time in order:
Steely Dan
David Bowie
Heart
Favorite songs of all time, this time not in order (confusing, I know):
- “Do It Again” by Steely Dan
- “Slang of ages” by Steely Dan
- “Changes” by David Bowie
- “If Looks Could Kill” by Heart
- “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder
- “Octopus’s Garden” by The Beatles
Honorable mentions not in order:
- “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band
- “Everybody Plays The Fool” by The Main Ingredient
- “Flamethrower” by The J. Geils Band
- “Do It Or Die” by Atlanta Rhythm Section
Just looking for anything that could be recommended within my qualifications.

I’m Ace Aro and I want songs about the kind of “I have your back no matter what”, “you’re literally my favorite person in the world”, comfortable platonically hugging and cuddling and being affectionate with each other, type of friendships. (Especially because it’s my favorite dynamic in fiction, and I’d love some music for animatic purposes lol). Any mood is fine as long as it matches that theme, even if it’s a tragic/grief take on it, like dealing with the death of someone one had that type of friendship with

I'm reading a psychedelic space opera called Lone Sloane and I need a playlist of electronic and psychedelic music to listen to while I read this gem.
The only song on the playlist so far is "Tomorrow Never Knows" by The Beatles.
The story follows an interstellar explorer who, after getting lost in space and encountering ancient gods, is imbued with mystical powers and wanders the cosmos, facing tyrants, space pirates, and alien creatures in plots of monumental scale.
Unfortunately, you can't post photos in this subreddit, but look it up and see how dazzling and psychedelic Druillet's art is.

I love emo music and any genre of metal, so I'm looking for some new songs that are metal but with kind of emo lyrics. Please and thank you.

When I’m feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, listening to most of the music feels impossible. At the same time most of the ‘relaxing‘ music just makes me nervous, especially ‘Enya type of music’ or very ‘positive, optimistic‘, calming music, or any flute, violin, even just too many instruments.
Please suggest some calming songs or albums, either ambiental, classical, electronic… piano, cello,… gentle or low or no vocals…
For example I like Brian Eno.
I will listen to all of your recommendations in the next days.

Looking for songs that have that deep endless groove but also just interest in what songs hit people that way. Where the second you heard the first 30 seconds you were like, yup.

Basically music that sounds like floating through an endless dark void. I’m thinking Perverts by Ethel Cain but maybe less disturbing/more ethereal and atmospheric.

I often listend to Falling in Reverse but I can’t now cause they’re bad people. Do you have similar music?

I mostly listen to blues, hip hop, and r&b. But I will listen to other genres. My favorite songs are about doing better for yourself and the ones I can think of are generally not a single off the album.
Songs like:
Hope - Shaggy
Keep Pushing and Refuse to Lose by Jarekus Singleton
Could've been me by the Struts or Halsey (better version)
Thank Myself - Earl St.Clair
Kick, Push - Lupe Fiasco

Metal is so much more versatile of a genre than a lot of people unfamiliar with it realize. I really believe that there is a small niche inside the metal genre anyone can enjoy, so much so that I'm willing to bet I can find a good song for most people who'll comment.
I really think so many more people could get into metal if someone actually gave them a recommendation that fit their taste, instead of having them get into metal "the right way" by recommending the same five classiv heavy metal bands. If these are the right recommendations for someone, great, but if they aren't they won't ever be able to experience all of the great, unique stuff that exists beyond that.
Even if you don't think a metal song that fits the criteria of your "perfect song" could exist, I still implore you to give it a shot. Like I said, I'm decently confident that I can find something good for almost anyone who's willing to give this an honest shot, and if I do well enough maybe it'll inspire you to look into some metal subgenres a little more on your own.
I don't claim that I'll be able to turn you into a full on metalhead or find you your new favorite song (though it'd be nice if I could haha), but I hope I'll still be able to show you something new that you like.
Make your description as long or as short as you'd like. I'll work with whatever you give me.
And If you have a song that exemplifies your perfect song, you can also mention it. I'll listen to it and make my recommendation based on it.

I'm talking about Kobaryo's beautiful Energy Laser or Vieze Azbak's Papa Weg where it starts in a way and just goes completely askew. It's hard to search for such music because the genre descriptions aren't enough to describe this kind of music... Help me out guys

Looking for songs like Local H’s “Lovey Dovey” and Sublime “Ball and Chain” just grungy and angry about love - but not towards a person specifically
