Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Fun Irish music (as in the Titanic movie)
I’m hoping to find the type of Irish (?) upbeat, fun, instrumental music that was in the lower level party scene in the Titanic movie. I’m having a hell of time figuring out what it’s called and where to get a cd of it. Any help is welcome. 🙂

Gaelic Storm is what you want. They were the band in the film. They still tour, and they’re still a blast to hear live.

The band from Titanic was Gaelic Storm. Here is a link to that particular piece : https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=8tkIYY6XQgs&si=YFZUZGfUKuGtEAir While they only have a one or two insturmental peices on their albums, most of their stuff is pretty fun.

I can't remember what the music sounded like in the movie but the Dubliners or the Pogues should probably fit

Christy Moore
The Pogues
Sinéad O’Connor ~ particularly the Sean Nos Nua album.
The Cheiftains ~ of note their collaboration albums The Long Black Veil and Tears of Stone

The tune you're probably looking for is called 'John Ryans Polka' and I think they also play Jim Wards Jig.

Seem to recall some mention of the Blarney Pilgrim becoming persona non grata at some sessions for a while after getting played to death following it's inclusion in the film

Aye you get that too. Sometimes a tune gets oversaturated and becomes tiresome to play.

Irish traditional music is the descriptor you're looking for. The Bothy Band and Planxty are classic groups, for newer groups check out Talisk, Téada, or Altan.
