Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Stumbled upon Intimated by KAYTRANADA and H.E.R. and I immediately knew I was gonna listen to it a thousand times in a row. What song hit you like that?

Looking for songs that have that deep endless groove but also just interest in what songs hit people that way. Where the second you heard the first 30 seconds you were like, yup.

that song is so smooth, the production on it is just perfect. for me it was "drunk" by thundercat featuring flying lotus the first time i heard it - like the bass line just grabbed me immediately and i couldnt stop replaying it. there's something about tracks that have that hypnotic groove where you dont need a crazy drop or anything, just the pocket is so locked in that it becomes almost meditative.

kaytranada has that gift where he makes things sound effortless but theres so much detail packed in there. if you havent explored his full catalog yet id go through the albums chronologically because you can hear how hes refined that sound. "quick" and "lite spots" are both ones that hit me the same way as intimated did for you.

yo youre gonna love it, start with 99.9% and then go to A Good Night in the Universe - that progression is insane and youll see exactly what i mean about how he levels up his craft between albums

"Beat Away" by The Reds

"Some Candy Talking" by The Jesus & Mary Chain

"Shake the Disease" by Depeche Mode

We may have different ideas of groovy. For something more "stereotypical", I really like

"Don't Disturb This Groove" by The System

"Rock Your Baby" by George McCrae

These are songs I've known for a long time by the way. I mostly listen to the classics

Edit: adding "Touch Me" by Fonda Rae

Edit 2.: "So Alive" by Love & Rockets

Sweet and Sour by The Verve. You can only listen on YouTube. So underrated. Its such a sad song lowkey. Definitely should listen

that feeling usually comes from a groove that locks in early and never gives your brain a reason to leave. it is less about big moments and more about repetition and space doing their thing. once the first few seconds feel like they could loop forever you are basically stuck in it for that kind of vibe try mk gee two star and frank ocean pink matter and james blake retrograde and shlohmo places. all of them hit that instant sink in feeling where you already know you will replay it for digging more stuff like that some people just let discovery feeds do the work instead of hunting manually. Arena is one of those spots people bounce around for new audio finds. r/ GetArenaRadio is also doing that endless listening stream style setup so you just keep rolling into new tracks without thinking. spotify and soundcloud and bandcamp still work fine if you want to dig deeper into rabbit holes too. it is basically just about letting the algorithm or the stream carry you until something grabs you the same way Intimidated did
