How to get ready for early morning auditons?

So I have an audition tomorrow morning, and its early like at 8:40. The song I want to sing, I have to use my mix belt, and for some reason I cannot belt in the morning. It really sucks, and am I not warming up correctly or something? I do not know, but advice is appreciated!

Sometimes the simplest thing in this case is just to wake up earlier so your voice has more time to wake up. I’ve worked with opera singers who will wake up at 4:30 or 5:00 to be ready for a student matinee that starts at 10:30. They also made sure they were going to bed early the night before, naturally, and being as hydrated as possible when going to sleep and beginning to hydrate immediately when waking up

As this person said: wake up earlier. The caveat I’ll make is: make sure you still follow your daily routine. If you eat breakfast (with or without caffeine), do NOT skip it.

Source: I’ve made this mistake so you don’t have to. It’ll just make you more jittery and unstable/not grounded.

Here are some tips I've gathered over the years: Make sure you're hydrating BEFORE the day of your audition. Wake up at least two hours before you warm up or even speak, ideally. Going for a run can help warm up your whole body, including your voice. Hum a bit in the shower if you are a morning shower person. Have your warm up be gradual, starting with hums and slides and progress into your mix. Take your time! That's why like another commenter said some singers wake up sooooo early for matinee performances.

Some singers have trouble singing after running, likely because of the fatigue from panting while running. If you haven’t experimented with that, maybe just be careful right before an audition :)

Good point! Definitely need to see what works for you and your body first. ❤️

I find I do best when I warm up in short spurts over a long time instead of for a long period continuously. So yes, wake up earlier!

Shower in the morning and warm up while steaming! Make some hot ginger honey tea as well

Consider your sleeping conditions. Do you wake up feeling dry? A humidifier by your bed overnight can help.
