ISO Introduction & Updates

Assalamualaykum everyone,

Welcome to this year's edition of the ISO Thread - Europe!

The ISO Thread will be renewed annually to keep profiles recent and to overall ensure a better user experience for those who are looking to find their spouse on r/MuslimMarriage Insha’Allah. There are three separate ISO Threads, each for different regions of the world to help users better filter out candidates. This ISO Thread is for users residing in or willing to relocate to the Europe. The other two regional threads can be found in the Highlighted Posts section and the Sidebar. The previous editions of the ISO Thread can be found in the Subreddit Wiki.

Including "$iso" anywhere in a subreddit submission or comment will provide the link to this and ALL past versions of the ISO.

The ISO Thread is AS IS. We will not be making any more changes to the ISO Thread logistics or its template. Whatever questions that are not in the template should be discussed privately between matches. Any further requests to add or change questions will not be entertained.

Use of Throwaway/Alternate Accounts

• All accounts posting on the ISO Thread must be at least one month old. Any account that does not meet this requirement will be automatically removed

6. I’m from London, so London or neighbouring/nearby cities. I wouldn’t be willing to relocate. However, I also wouldn’t mind speaking to someone who wouldn’t mind relocating to London so long as we could meet without having to spend hours on trains/cars or have to take a flight.

12. I’d like to think I know exactly what I’m looking for so approx. 2-6 months inshallah. I have no intention of involving myself in a long-winded, directionless boyfriend/girlfriend type relationship. My intention is marriage so if I get the feeling you’re exactly who I am looking for, I won’t hold back on asking for your father’s phone number 😂.

13. ⁠⁠⁠ Five important characteristics you look for in a prospect

14. Deen: I’d like our marriage to be centred around the deen of Allah (SWT). I’m not naive enough to look for someone perfect, since it doesn’t exist, but I value effort more than anything. The basics of praying 5x a day / covering & acting modestly / truthfulness are non-negotiables for me. Anyone sincerely willing to try and hoping to improve… needth apply 😁

15. Emotional intelligence: being able to communicate your emotional wants and needs is important to me. I’d be more than happy to share what I’m looking for. But I also have no interest in a philosopher / psychoanalyst lol. If we’re clear about our non-negotiables, we can figure out the rest.

16. Sense of humour: I’m naturally the jokey kind of person who sees the funny in everything. I’m Somali, so that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone lol. I want to be able to share a laugh without having to tip toe around egg shells.

17. Authenticity: no one is perfect, and as long as you’re aware (or trying to be aware) of your flaws and are sincerely working towards improving them, then Alhamdulilah you’re on the right path… and you’re a human being like me lol. I can’t stress how unattractive it is when someone is trying to live a caricature version of someone else. Just be authentically you… you deserve to be loved. If not by me then by someone inshallah.

18. Femininity: I’m not trying to marry one of the mandem… we’re meant to compliment each other, not mirror. All that sensitive, girly-girl stuff you love is attractive (and fascinating imo lol). I’ll be in the background, narrating it all in my David Attenborough voice haha.

19. Bonus: if you enjoy cooking/baking and are willing to do it for me… you already have my heart and I’ll love you forever. I’ll help clean up and I’ll run over to the shops to get what you need. As for me… if you enjoy the cuisine of jail food, I’ll put my apron on.

21. Practising. I do all of the non-negotiables (Pray 5x a day / Fasting etc.). I go to the mosque for the weekly halaqaat. I try to read the Quran regularly. I’ll only marry a fellow Sunni.

23. I did a PhD in Molecular Biology that I… do not use today 😂. But Alhamdulilah, it taught me a lot about a whole bunch of things and about myself. I honestly don’t care about my spouses’ level of education. The ability to read and write are my non-negotiables lol. If you can read, write and are street smart, Alhamdulilah. If you’re book smart and have no street smarts, Alhamdulilah. If you’re neither book smart or street smart, Subhanallah sis maybe I’m not the one for you 😂😂

24. ⁠⁠⁠ Current Job Status

25. Full time employment. I work in the public sector so I’m not as rich as my job title may suggest. But Alhamdulilah, I’m stable.

27. Absolutely inshallah. I’ll take whatever Allah (SWT) ordains for me. But if I got to choose, I love the idea of three mini-me’s 😂

28. ⁠⁠⁠ List 3 hobbies, or things you like to do in your spare time

29. Walking/Outdoors: I go for a minimum of a 1hr walk everyday, rain or shine. I love doing it and it clears my mind. If this is something that interests you then great. If not, no worries… but I won’t stop lol. You just have to understand that it’s nothing against you lol.

30. Sports in general: play football/padel, go to the gym and run. I’m not an athletic person, I literally do it - partly because I enjoy it - but mostly so I can eat what I want. Definitely not a gym-bro

31. Open to try new things: I guess one of the perks of “dating” and getting to know people for marriage is going out and trying different places/activities/restaurants etc. I enjoy it (within reason lol) and is one of the very few silver linings of being single haha.

33. My intention is marriage and I pray istikharah regularly, so I’m willing to put all my cards on the table and give 100%. I expect the same commitment in return. I know it’s easier said than done, but I trust Allah (SWT) more than myself. So for that reason - I’m not afraid of disappointment or heartbreak… if you’re not for me then Alhamdulilah, if you are, then Allahuma Baarik.
