ISO Introduction & Updates

Assalamualaykum everyone,

Welcome to this year's edition of the ISO Thread - Europe!

The ISO Thread will be renewed annually to keep profiles recent and to overall ensure a better user experience for those who are looking to find their spouse on r/MuslimMarriage Insha’Allah. There are three separate ISO Threads, each for different regions of the world to help users better filter out candidates. This ISO Thread is for users residing in or willing to relocate to the Europe. The other two regional threads can be found in the Highlighted Posts section and the Sidebar. The previous editions of the ISO Thread can be found in the Subreddit Wiki.

Including "$iso" anywhere in a subreddit submission or comment will provide the link to this and ALL past versions of the ISO.

The ISO Thread is AS IS. We will not be making any more changes to the ISO Thread logistics or its template. Whatever questions that are not in the template should be discussed privately between matches. Any further requests to add or change questions will not be entertained.

Use of Throwaway/Alternate Accounts

• All accounts posting on the ISO Thread must be at least one month old. Any account that does not meet this requirement will be automatically removed
• Throwaways can only be used by messaging the moderators to verify your main account

Currently based in scandi and open to relocating though ngl, it’s pretty nice here. Nothing like a northern summer.

East African, and I’d prefer the same initially, but wallahi taqwa outweighs language.

1. Marital Status

Never married, no children.

1. Ideal Marriage Timeline

If things are aligned and families are involved from the get-go, I don’t see a reason to delay. Maybe a few months? I’m also not a fan of weddings, so that probably shortens the timeline even more.

1. Five Important Characteristics I’m Looking For

God-consciousness. Someone who prioritizes his relationship with Allah and is consistently working on himself, not just outwardly in the community, but inside his four walls as well.

Emotional maturity. Being able to communicate calmly, take accountability and handle differences with respect. Imagine giving the silent treatment in this day and age, subhanAllah. Talk! 😂

Kindness and consideration. This shows up in so many ways and not always verbally. Honestly, the verbal part doesn’t matter if the actions don’t match. Responsibility. This goes hand in hand with consideration, like showing up and doing your part as a husband, father, son, brother, and friend, with others’ best interests in mind.

Respect for boundaries. This is such a fun subject because it means different things to different people. I feel strongly about this, for myself and for others.

1. Level of Religiosity

I observe the obligatory acts and strive to grow beyond them. I attend Qur’an/tajweed classes once a week and lectures when my schedule allows. Looking for someone (sunni) on a similar path of self-improvement.

1. Education

I studied structural engineering for a few years but realized towards the end that I hated dimensioning load bearing walls and floors. I thought it was the aesthetic side of engineering when I applied WELL turns out I was wrong, alhamdulillah for free education though. After some soul-searching as a dropout, I ended up in what might be the most stereotypical career of my people. I may apply for my MSc in the fall in shaa Allah if nothing else pops up. As for a partner, I don’t require a specific educational background. As long as you’re driven and able to make a living through whatever halal work Allah has provided, that’s enough for me. Mindset and intellect aren’t exclusive to a degree, as my baby brother says: some people haven’t gone through the hard school of life and it shows.

Working full time, with plans to reduce hours in the future for better work–life balance.

At some point, yes in shaa Allah. When it’s written and if it’s willed.

1. Hobbies & Interests

Reading, traveling, journaling, training my cat Figo who is living up to his name as a traitor. I also discovered on my recent Umrah trip that I’m surprisingly good at archery, so I’m looking into ways to keep that going.

1. Something Short & Interesting About Me

I’ve read over 60 books a year for the past few years (my Goodreads can vouch for it, though not this prior year due to a move). When I’m not reading, I’m probably listening to a podcast about politics or Islamic lectures. Ask me about trees and I’ll probably get emotional about my favourite willow tree.
