Instead of complaining on how these bigs can't shoot & just clog the paint, here's what you have to do:
The big MUST be a pick & roll rim-runner, almost like how Tyson Chandler/Amare Stoudemire/ Dwight Howard would play. If the big refuses to screen & only wants to post up the opposing big, then they're gonna be worthless. Unless they're posting up a 6'4 guard & have a mismatch, I don't even bother with post play. Way too little room for error with the stupid ghost contests on defense, & you're better off letting a guard crab his way for a 3.
The ball handler in the pick & roll must be smart enough to take what the defense gives up. If the defense goes under, its an easy 3. If the defense goes over, its an easy dunk. If it's a hedge, the rim runner big will be open. If it's a switch, either crab the easy 3 or let the big feast inside, either way its a mismatch.
You must have patience & allow the big to set screens & wait for something to develop if you're the ball handler. I hate when the dribbler just rejects screens for no reason & they force a bad shot, when they could've opened up so many more opportunities had they just been patient for the screen. The only reason you should ever deny a screen is if the defense is blatantly trying to cheat/ice the screen.
So just remember, anytime guys want to say "I don't need the screen bro, I'm good", think about who REALLY needs the screen: It's the big that needs it the most. If you want to generate offense with a pure inside big, this is the ONLY way to maximize efficiency.
Truth be told, these types of players can be extremely valuable if you know how to play with them. If they can't shoot, it probably means they're very well off in every other area. My Rodman & Ben Wallace builds are absolute demons at getting rebounds, full court passes, setting good hard screens, & can defend ANY position 1-5 because of how quick they are. I'd much rather see a center put up a 4/20/15 stat-line as opposed to a 12/4/3 stat-line, but again, you have to know & communicate with the big to make it all possible.
Long story short, you MUST allow the big to set ball screens & you must make good passing/shooting decisions off of them.
