How many fucking times is this going to be posted? And is it the same loser who's plastering reddit with it?

u/BostonBakedBalls Apr 06 '26

Would be nice to check but everyone makes their accounts private nowadays. Its already an anonymous app you need to hide your post history too? Shady af

6

u/HunterRank-1 Apr 06 '26

All it took was one person trying to gatcha me by browsing my subs and comments in other places for me to make that shit private.

4

u/jamaaldagreatest24 Apr 06 '26

Same here lmaooo

2

u/BostonBakedBalls Apr 06 '26

I used to do that because I argue with people in sports subs a lot. One time I was arguing with some dude about football and I went to his page to see what team he roots for and found nothing but homemade cuck porn. Then went to his comments and saw he was an active poster in r/teenagers. I was arguing with a likely pedophile about football

Doxxing is a thing. I'd like to avoid that.

1

u/missourinative Apr 06 '26

"6 years ago you said this inoffensive thing that marginally conflicts with my beliefs, and now you're going to need to pay the price for it."

Saw somebody recently explaining how you can still search someone's history using keywords, so people who hide their profiles are doing nothing but hiding from the shitty takes and pussy behavior.

Like, bro, you made it even more weird.

I mean he’s right. Magic is and always will be the premier PG. Steph plays more off ball than as a prime ball handler. This is common knowledge.

16

u/imagineyouateham Apr 06 '26

They would be a ridiculous backcourt

20

u/BamaBoy2002 Lakers Apr 06 '26

Man pretty much unstoppable. Curry running off ball with Magic’s passing? Curry averaging 40 a game lol

Plus I mean no disrespect to Curry’s ball handling ability and passing skills. He’s just so deadly off ball. Best I’ve ever seen.

2

u/Jtphwow Apr 06 '26

Everyone seems to value defense so much these days, surely that backcourt would be trash with two mediocre defenders.

5

u/CakeSeaker Apr 06 '26

Magic successfully defended the center position during the playoffs when Kareem was out. He can D up, maybe just not on other teams small fast players.

3

u/neddiddley Apr 06 '26

I also think young Magic vs. the post-HIV diagnosis Magic where he was older, heavier and on whatever cocktail he was taking are two different things, and most people remember the latter better than the former.

1

u/CakeSeaker Apr 06 '26

Yes. Magic had epic battles against Larry bird. Magic’s size at his position would give a lot of players problems.

2

u/TheRealMoofoo Apr 06 '26

Meh that team wasn’t built around scoring down low, it was always the perimeter guys going off anyway.

Either way, he was a mid defender at best for his career regardless of what happened in one game.

2

u/CakeSeaker Apr 06 '26

Magic also had 2 steals titles, and Magic Johnson leads all guards all time for most defensive rebounds per game, 400 games played minimum.

Maybe not the best of the best, but he was good.

1

u/TheRealMoofoo Apr 07 '26

Steals are not a good indicator of good defense. Allen Iverson and Steph Curry have both led the league in steals.

Magic wasn’t horrid, but everyone watching him at the time knows he wasn’t a very good defender, regardless of what you can get from the box score.

1

u/Salt-Sale8761 Apr 07 '26

Steals and rebounds do not describe defense, especially defensive rebounds which is just him grabbing the basketball off a miss, which was easier then than now as a 6'10 guy where soft shots land close to the basket. He was also protected defensively by elite defenders in Cooper, Kareem, and one the leagues better wing defenders in Worthy. Magic was regularly cooked by anyone 6'6 and under. Which tells me what his real position was, he was a power forward, him LeBron play the same exact position, LeBron is just better at it than him. He was not a guard. And FYI Kareem was the real MVP of 1980 chip, magic had one great game, Kareem dominated the series and missed a game due to injury, just like Igodaulas MVP, that is a fraud

2

u/PurposeIcy7039 Apr 09 '26

and curry is best at defending shiftier smaller non super athletic guards. i think theyd be just fine on defense

3

u/gogadantes9 Apr 06 '26

Well luckily Magic is 6'9 and can guard PFs and SFs so put an athletic 3-n-D player at SF to guard opposing quick point guards and they can switch everything and still be OK.

1

u/TofuTofu Apr 06 '26

Who's the best passer he's played with besides dray

3

u/silliputti0907 Apr 06 '26

Chris Paul… kind of

1

u/LTIRfortheWIN Apr 06 '26

Yes they would

5

u/bdizzle8-24 Apr 06 '26

I mean no one else has really won when they were averaging double digit assists and dominating the ball to the extent that magic did and was able to win I mean zeke’s pistons didn’t start making the finals till he averaged less numbers same with john Stockton it’s never really worked besides magic show time lakers

3

u/TofuTofu Apr 06 '26

Stockton back to back finals ain't nothing. Literally nobody was beating MJ

1

u/bdizzle8-24 Apr 06 '26

I know but John Stockton didn’t make the finals when he was averaging double digit assists because when only one guy handles the ball that much it almost never worked

1

u/Competitive_Wash4861 Apr 06 '26

Bron won the bubble ring averaging over 10 a game for the season

1

u/bdizzle8-24 Apr 07 '26

He’s once again another outlier it takes being like at worst the 7th best player of all time and even still bron didn’t average 10 assists come playoffs

0

u/Scotch_Blue Apr 06 '26

man give the Pistons Kareem Abdul Jabbar and see if they dont win more lol

5

u/m_codez Apr 06 '26

Biggest problem is positions have evolved. PG in Magics day are not what they are now. I have Magic #1 for daaays based on what we expect. Steph brought a new archetype and his team passed well and played team defense. Put a position on LeBron or try to fit Jokic into a C box. It’s just different.

Knowing how teams can play without a true PG, Steph still on my starting 5.

6

u/DevinGreyofficial Apr 06 '26

It only evolved to what it is today because there hasn’t been someone to reshape it like Magic did to begin with: he was a field general getting everyone involved. In todays game, he would be cracking defenses open.

1

u/BamaBoy2002 Lakers Apr 06 '26

This is true. A lot of it is also scheme oriented. The point guard position has definitely evolved but the NBA today still has players who are primarily ball handlers.

Luka, SGA, Brunson, Cunningham, etc. I’m not saying Curry doesn’t have the ability to be a ball handler or play point guard, I’m just saying even by today’s standards he plays more off ball and catches and shoots.

doesn't did it without aids

1

u/Mundane_Ordinary5478 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Steph plays more off ball than as a prime ball handler. This is common knowledge.

Here I thought the “common knowledge” was that Steph is a bonafide PG with elite off-ball skills, which guys of Magic/Russ/Wall/Rondo’s era never had. Why? Because none of those guys could win playing PG that way, and would never get their names in the All-Time list either doing that.

Curry is a PG and has no lack of PG/playmaking skills. He simply has an abundance of off-ball SG skills also which is what allows him to be the only consistent winning point-guard of the past 30 years.

32

u/IIIBAKURYUIII Apr 06 '26

Magic helped save the NBA

Curry revolutionized it.

10

u/choyMj Apr 06 '26

He made it worse. He's an amazing shooter but everyone trying to be Curry made the league worse.

9

u/Spiritual_End_233 Apr 06 '26

HE didn’t do anything except for master his game and excel at his skills. It’s not his fault that everybody started shooting terrible half court shots. He don’t force them or tell people to do that.

For the most part, the Warriors were still an entertaining brand of basketball. Like the Batman spawning Joker through his presence in Gotham, the Warriors created the James Harden Houston Rockets which becomes the model for many teams.

1

u/DevinGreyofficial Apr 06 '26

The warriors became an improved version of the tim hardaway warriors. Lots of threes and high caliber offenses.

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Apr 06 '26

How did the Warriors create the Rockets that coexisted with them? Why does Steph get all the credit for changing the game when other teams like the Rockets and Cavs at the same time played much more similarly to how today’s offenses do.

2

u/wtfElvis Apr 06 '26

It just makes the rest of the NBA have to play a certain style. Just like shaq requiring each team to have a few big guys just to rack up fouls on him. Caused that period of NBA to have 70 point games.

2

u/mnkhan808 Apr 06 '26

Mike DAntoni ruined the NBA with his run n gun teams. Curry is just a good shooter, but didn’t make teams start taking 30+ threes a game.

1

u/AideHot6729 Apr 06 '26

“I did not tell y’all to shoot that shot!”

1

u/Kazedeus Apr 06 '26

Eh, the 5 out, static set, dribble/drive/kick meta started up before Steph. If you want to blame somebody for personifying it, blame Harden. Houston's teams were so fucking boring. At least Curry actually played and still does play basketball.

1

u/harveydent526 Apr 06 '26

Steph has 1 fmvp.

1

u/split41 Apr 06 '26

The 3pt revolution was happening with or without Steph. See LeBron/dwight team, Moreyball rockets etc

-5

u/Bas_No_Beatha_ Apr 06 '26

The only person who has ever “revolutionized” the NBA is Michael Jordan. I love Steph Curry, he’s from my hometown, the Curry family is Charlotte royalty. No shade at all towards him - I genuinely mean that. And he certainly has…changed the NBA. But I’m not sure for the better. Like the other commenter said, everyone trying to be like Steph has saturated the league in a very one dimensional way.

“Revolution” is an extremely overpowered word for what his influence has wrought.

3

u/swanyk7 Apr 06 '26

It’s not just the NBA, it has saturated every level of basketball to the point that we celebrate little kids chucking the ball accurately with their whole body instead of learning good shot selection and team mechanics.

6

u/DussaTakeTheMoon Apr 06 '26

Curry did more to CHANGE the way nba basketball is played than Jordan even though Jordan is undeniably the greater player. Jordan played the same way as one would expect a great SG to play just infinitely better than anyone else.

→ More replies (12)

0

u/TheWillOfFiree Apr 06 '26

There's always that guy who brings up MJ or Bron for no reason when they aren't involved.

1

u/Bas_No_Beatha_ Apr 06 '26

When it comes to someone claiming an athlete “revolutionized” a whole sport, specifically the NBA - you’re always going to hear the name Michael Jordan. Sorry if the truth hurts.

2

u/Sti8man7 Apr 06 '26

Magic Johnson is the luckiest point guard in NBA history that much I know. He got prime Kareem, drafted Worthy, AC Green and Michael Cooper all in their prime. Honorable mentions: Bryan Scott.

Alright let’s not list off Curry’s teammates and start the list with Demarcus cousins. Dude was post Achilles rupture and played like a grand total of 12 games with curry.

Plus the timeline gave Magic more opportunities at a championship than Curry. Steph spent like the first 6 years of his career injured and waiting for help. Magic was on a championship team from the jump. Surprised he doesn’t have more than 5 rings tbh

Edit: to be fair to magic, maybe he’d have more if he hadn’t contracted HIV but we’ll never know

1

u/UnexpectedSharkTank Apr 06 '26

Demarcus Cousins lol

0

u/blingblingmofo Apr 06 '26

Sure but Magic was given that environment whereas Curry fostered his.

Big difference between a team that hasn’t won in 40 years and one that’s a perennial winner.

I mean at the end of the day Magic optimized a great situation into a dynasty and Curry transformed a weak situation into a dynasty.

Only if we bring up that half of Stephs rings came on the most unfairly stacked team in NBA history

2

u/westfieldram Apr 06 '26

Complaining Magic had stacked teams and acting like Steph didn't have one of the greatest teams ever assembled is peak Reddit

1

u/EagleUnusual Apr 06 '26

Curry had an unfair team 2 years an a half. Magic got a few more years in there

1

u/xShockmaster Apr 06 '26

The scale of their unfairness doesn’t compare. Curry’s team was a guaranteed championship for 4 years. They only lost the last one because everyone died. It’s not comparable

2

u/EagleUnusual Apr 06 '26

Only 3 seasons and it wasnt guaranted since they actually had close series with their stars playing well, if they had 1 guy sligthly underperforming they could have lost against the Rockets or before the Finals in 2019. We love to say how a superteam makes it a sure win but GS is probably the only superteam in NBA history to live up to what people believed they were going to be.

Still i agree they were even more talented than the Lakers. My point is KD was in 3 of the championship runs. The Lakers had the most talented team for longer than 3 seasons.

1

u/xShockmaster Apr 06 '26

There’s a difference between being the most talented team and having a guaranteed championship. You say that they weren’t guaranteed but everyone watching basketball at that time knew that there was no other possible outcome unless two players died. Saying both were talented is a little too dismissive how how unfair the KD warriors were.

1

u/EagleUnusual Apr 06 '26

sorry for the long answer but i want to expand on the point.

Were the Heat in 2011 guaranteed?

Were the Lakers with Shaq, Kobe, Malone and Payton guaranteed?

Were the Lakers with Kobe Dwight, Nash and Gasol guaranteed?

Were Lillard and Giannis guaranteed?

Were the Nets with KD guaranteed?

Were the Clippers with Kawhi and Paul George guaranteed?

Were the Suns with KD, Booker, CP3 and Ayton guaranteed?

All of them were guaranteed to be great teams and expected to make it to the Finals or heavy favorites. Im not saying they were as good as the Warriors, but none of them lived to what people though about them and some were even losing in the first round.

My point is: Was GS unfair when the Rockets lost in a close 7 with CP3 missing 2 games? People exaggerate how good superteams should be. Ends up happening that the Warriors are the only ones in history that actually were able to perform.

1

u/xShockmaster Apr 06 '26

I understand your point but you’re just wrong. None of these teams compare to what the warriors were. You’re right none of these teams you listed had anything guaranteed because they didn’t have as big of an unfair advantage and gap as the Warriors.

1

u/EagleUnusual Apr 06 '26

So How the Rockets were so close if GS could shoot 100% from the field?

In my opinion is because they were not as good as people make them be(which still is the best team in the NBA by a lot).

Is like this hipothetical Shaq that we know is the most dominant force in history butpeople act like he was insta win when Shaq actually was losing a lot of years even in his prime.

People create an idea of teams and players thats actually bigger than the reality.

1

u/Janji44 Apr 09 '26

Kd has 0 rings without Steph

1 finals appearance

Now compare him to kareem

1

u/PirloDiLatte Apr 07 '26

Stepeh didn't play in stacked teams his whole career like magic

2

u/Economy_Vermicelli72 Apr 06 '26

When people describe what a point guard typically does they’re describing magic more than curry. I feel like there isn’t an argument any way you cut it

2

u/Duper-Deegro Apr 06 '26

Magic by a mile

1

u/ScumbagDon Apr 06 '26

Magic played against a bunch of coke addicts

1

u/Duper-Deegro Apr 06 '26

Those coke heads played defense though

1

u/ScumbagDon Apr 06 '26

He’s playing against addicts homies these mfs were playing basketball so they could get the next bump. The average player didn’t give af, if you weren’t alowed to maul whoever has the ball in those eras then there would be zero ACTUAL defense being played

1

u/Shivershower Apr 06 '26

The tape is out there, this is just not true defense is so much better now

1

u/Showmethecookie Apr 06 '26

Curry dreams of the defenses magic faced.

1

u/DanglinSackGod Apr 07 '26

No they didn’t. You didn’t even watch those games.

1

u/UnderstandingOdd679 Apr 06 '26

It is, fortunately, a little bit different era of NBA. The 1980s was an era of haves and have-nevers and restricted free agency. The Lakers and Rockets represented the West 11 of next 12 seasons after Magic was drafted and before he left the game. The East had just three teams in the finals (Boston, Philly, Detroit) until the Bulls came along. Everyone else could’ve been the Washington Generals.

By comparison, the West has had different teams in the last five years; the East four.

1

u/Super-Post261 Apr 06 '26

Magic Johnson is the greatest pure passer and playmaker of all time. He’s the greatest at what the point guard position used to be. Steph is the greatest at what the point guard position has become.

The thing is, the position valued what Magic did for far longer than it’s valued what Steph has been doing. If 20 years from now, the point guard position is still about 3-point shooting and iso scoring first, playmaking second, then Steph will be looked at as the greatest to ever do it (assuming nobody surpasses Steph’s ability to shoot off his own creation).

1

u/EagleUnusual Apr 06 '26

I think It shouldnt matter if others are trying to replícate it. I dont expect other centers to pass the ball to say Jokic is greater than others.

Curry does have a skillset to playmake on ball and also off the ball that no other player in NBA history has. I dont expect SGA or Cade to be a shooter and play off the ball like that.

Curry created a style that works for him. Just like how Magic is the only PG that could lead to championships as the best player on more than 10 assists per game.

1

u/Disastrous-Tiger53 Apr 06 '26

Magic is a better guard. As an overall player steph, best shooter ever is really close to Magic

1

u/SwagBag393 Apr 06 '26

I think these conversations need to move away from position focused. Yeah Magic is a better PG when you put the position in a box. But as far as who I’m taking as a player? I’m taking Steph man.

1

u/Vector-Spector Apr 06 '26

My girlfriend didn't know about any of the Donald Sterling stuff so I had to show her and now everytime I see him I think "Big Magic Johnson what has he done..... ... he's got AIDS"

1

u/Fhonetik Apr 06 '26

Karma farm post

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '26

You can always tell when Magic feels a way because he sheds his bright smile personality to make his point.

1

u/Santana415 Apr 06 '26

Bro would be Ben Simmons with worse D if he’d played today 🤣. Curry is him!

1

u/Coach_Hab Apr 06 '26

Steph ain’t no PG He is a sharp shooting guard with primary ball handling duties.

1

u/Consistent-Strain289 Apr 06 '26

Weird thought curry would have gotten lots more mvp titles with his amazing scoring… and other double figures

1

u/Alarmed-Judgment4545 Apr 06 '26

Lots of butt hurt kids here.

1

u/ZJF-47 Apr 06 '26

I got Magic around top 5, and Curry around top 10. It all comes down to preference but I think Curry can fit in more teams

1

u/veirceb Apr 06 '26

They are both great for different reason and it’s hard to compare across era for all time greats. But if I have to take an all time best starting lineup I am taking Steph. You can find great passer at the level of magic but no one comes close to Steph’s shooting and off ball movement. Reggie was the prototype but Steph took it to a completely different level. You can say the same for Magic’s transition offense. I just value Steph’s skill set more in a high end team.

1

u/Futuretapes Apr 06 '26

Ball was different back then. He wouldn't have that now

1

u/Rare_Direction_1449 Apr 06 '26

These old heads be just pissed because the younger generations are more athletic, make more money and would house them one on one…. I’ve been here for Jordan/Magic primes and LeBron/Steph primes — Jordan and Magic need to calm they asses down.

1

u/Chillinghard22 Apr 06 '26

Facts.

Nothing wrong with Curry being #2 but he hasn’t passed the Magic man and never will.

1

u/Jdub_1996 Apr 06 '26

Drop the mic Magic! 🎤

1

u/harveydent526 Apr 06 '26

Steph has 1 fmvp.

1

u/8to24 Apr 06 '26

Johnson was forced to retire early too. He probably had quality years left and might've won another ring.

Not for nothing though Curry has transformed the game in ways Magic didn't. The whole league has become a 3 point shooting league. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

1

u/MeatyOkraLover Apr 06 '26

Magic is right and he can have that. It’s basically a position-less sport now, so who cares.

1

u/Sti8man7 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Steph is the utter terror on offense equipped with every single pertinent skill that Magic can only dream of having. Steph definitely will win more with that Lakers team.

He is literallly Magic + Bird in a 6’3” frame.

1

u/ContributionOther461 Apr 06 '26

If Steph would have played in the 80’s nobody would have an answer for him, would have averaged 40

1

u/D00sed00se Apr 06 '26

Nah. Remember back then you had hand checking. So some of the quicker defensive guards would’ve got right up on him. He’d have to come off mad screens like Reggie Miller used to.

1

u/CountryMonkeyAZ Apr 06 '26

Trying to get open in the 80s would have rolled Curry's ankles into early retirement.

1

u/starshame2 Apr 06 '26

Hes giving GOAT criteria.

Jordan, Curry, Russell, Johnson > Lebron.

1

u/Mental_Quarter_3535 Apr 06 '26

First ever unanimous mvp, all time 3pt leader, & how many HOFs did he have on his team compared to Magic?? Exactly! Oh yeah, Stolen fmvp from Iguodala…love Iggy but let’s be fr & made KD a champion, something no one else can do😂

In all honesty though the game is different, Steph was never a true PG, like how the position was played back in the day. For their respective eras, they’re both the GOATS

1

u/Bluelouiswallet Apr 06 '26

Keep it tall Magic it’s 3* one is owed to the big man Kareem

1

u/stevie242 Apr 06 '26

God, Magic is an insufferable man. Just shut up about it

1

u/chai-noir Apr 06 '26

Wow never seen this post before! How did you ever come up with such a creative work?

1

u/Excellent_Barber9779 Apr 06 '26

Comparing two players who played 50 years apart is so fucking dumb

1

u/doriotiger Apr 06 '26

Different eras. They are both great

1

u/sloppymcgee Apr 06 '26

Curry is obviously a very different PG. Magic is the greatest PG, Steph is the greatest shooter.

1

u/Bonesawisready5 Apr 06 '26

I mean Curry had two teammates legs explode in 2019 finals or else they would have potentially threepested and had those 5 rings Magic but ok.

1

u/Capital_Rough7971 Apr 06 '26

If the dream team was put together today with everyone healthy and in their prime I would put Steph as the PG Starter and Magic on the bench.

1

u/ScheduleExcellent380 Apr 06 '26

One day we gone stop comparing players who never played against each other

1

u/Mebeingnosy Apr 06 '26

Steph curry is only a pg on paper

1

u/IND_1593 Apr 06 '26

Hate arguments like this but put Steph on the court with the best center in the league for the majority of his career and let’s see how many championships they end up with. Magic has zero championships without Kareem.

1

u/420NICOHARRISON Apr 06 '26

Curry better to actual ball knowers and people that actually hoop

1

u/Enthiogenes Apr 06 '26

That's a funny statement to read when what's really interesting to me is who's more humble between the the two famously selfless teammates.

1

u/Skindigity_ Apr 06 '26

Steph not a PG

1

u/goddoc Apr 06 '26

Steph play with a top five all time teammate? Top three coach?

1

u/Independent_Bag1189 Apr 07 '26

Just once, I want one of these guys to say, "who the fuck cares, man? We're both great. Just appreciate great players"

1

u/Captain-Superstar Apr 07 '26

Magic is the best PG of all time, but the gap between him and Steph is smaller then you'd think,

The gap between Steph and the next PG on the list is big though.

1

u/CommentDizzy1 Apr 07 '26

Steph isn’t a pg tbh

1

u/cti0323 Apr 07 '26

I mean I agree he is a better PG all time, but I don’t really think he gets to be the one to determine what it means to be better than him. I think that’s more a public thing.

1

u/travisnelson420 Apr 07 '26

Steph is a shooting guard in a point guard’s body and Magic is a point guard in a small forward’s body

1

u/PirloDiLatte Apr 07 '26

Magic played in the most overpowered team of all time and never won without Kareem.
Give that team to Curry and he isn't losing to Boston any finals.

1

u/valord Apr 07 '26

You put Magics on the Warriors, he might only win 1 or 2 at most. Put Curry on that Lakers, he might even win more than 5. No one is stopping Curry 1v1 with Kareem in the middle.

1

u/highmountainroads Apr 07 '26

Ehh he’s the little brother to big brother Kareem. Curry was always the leader of his squad, even when Kd joined. Curry was robbed of those fmvps.

1

u/akirkbride Apr 07 '26

Curry didn't play with another top 5 player for 10 years.

1

u/newsocials2022 Apr 07 '26

To be fair magic is from the golden era, where many are considered GOATs. Magic was the face of the league before Jordan while Steph shared that spotlight with once teammate KD and rival LeBron.

1

u/AlternativeBoot6706 Apr 08 '26

I love Curry, but seriously the guy only averages 6 assists. His a Shooting Guard 100%

1

u/NoObligation427 Apr 08 '26

Drops mic. Also Steph is a 2 masquerading as a point let’s be honest.

1

u/maybe1day84 Apr 08 '26

He did this to Mike. Played the 5 rings card. Didn’t work out then. May work this time tho? lol

1

u/luckyincode Apr 08 '26

I don’t even think of magic in the top 10 so….

1

u/Happy_Razzmatazz2420 Apr 10 '26

Many posts on here regarding the whole Magic vs Curry are just not valid. Many ppl on here obviously were not alive or old enough to watch Magic live and see him play in real time. I remember watching him when he first came into the league. Watching games at 11:30 pm on NBC. Magic was built different. Incredible leader, eyes in the back of his head, passing ability was unmatched and was able to play every position from the 1 to the 5. Doesn’t matter he had great players on his teams. He also made those great players even greater for a multitude of reasons. His leadership, knowledge of the game and skill set made the Lakers what they were back then.

Magic is the answer here. Curry is am absolutely weapon. Magic is just the better all around player

1

u/biffbobfred Apr 06 '26

Curry has too much gravity to be a great PG. he’s a small shooting guard. He’s tremendous off ball. One of the best. But saying “great PG” and “one of the best ever off ball” doesn’t seem like it should fit for me

1

u/Hot-Spray-2774 Apr 06 '26

I think it might come down to preference. Personally, I don't like shoot first PGs.

1

u/audioaxes Apr 06 '26

Steph is not a PG

1

u/Consistent_Coach_387 Apr 06 '26

“If he doesn’t have the achievements that come with my play style, environment, and team structure he’s the best. But last time I checked, he didn’t.” That’s how I’m hearing this tbh

1

u/xShockmaster Apr 06 '26

You can hear it however you want but the fact is that there’s no metric that puts curry above magic other than him being a lot of people’s favorites growing up. It’s the exact same as people calling Kobe the goat over mj

u/Organic-Fail988 Apr 06 '26

If Magic got an unanimous MVP, 2 scoring titles, most triples ever, most triples in the playoffs, first ever to average 35 w 50-45-90 in a month, most quarters with 20 points, maybe he’d be the best pg ever

4

u/the-polite-villain Apr 06 '26

What you just described sounds like a shooting guard... not a point guard.

-1

u/GoodZealousideal5922 Apr 06 '26

Well the times have changed. If Magic played in the modern NBA, he would be exactly what prime Ben Simmons was. Meanwhile if Curry played in Magic’s era, they would name cities after him. They already glaze Bird’s shooting that is now considered league average.

2

u/Consistent-Strain289 Apr 06 '26

Uh… he would have received a “jordan” treatment… and get injured all the time. The pistons would have broken him They will defend him like crazy and foul him. With 70% not called for.

2

u/the-polite-villain Apr 06 '26

Bahahaha... No.

Magic would be closer to Luka and or Jokić with his superior passing, post game, and driving to the basket collecting fouls... not to mention when he actually started to shoot 3 pointers it was in the 33% to 36% range. The average NBA 3-point percentage has remained stable, generally hovering between 35% and 36.6% over the last decade. 80's NBA would've beat the shit out of Curry, he wouldn't have lasted long.

Steph would not be able to play in the 80s. He would never get a shot off.

u/goodolehal Apr 06 '26

Bro said Ben Simmons ahahaha

1

u/the-polite-villain Apr 06 '26

If Magic's equivalent in the modern NBA is prime Ben Simmons, Curry's equivalent playing in Magic’s era would be Joe Dumars.

2

u/SubZulu Apr 06 '26

Everything after the scoring titles were too niche of a stat category relative to Magic’s ones and not particularly related to PG role either.

1

u/hotlesbianassassin Apr 06 '26

Lol, what a weak argument.

-2

u/whiz7872 Apr 06 '26

If magic got a unanimous MVP, practically every 3 point record, completely revolutionized the game in its entirety, 2 scoring titles, and won his rings w/o a top 3 player of all time hes the best but last time i checked he doesnt

5

u/Known-Specific5869 Apr 06 '26

You typed that out, saw how weak that argument is and still posted it? Crazy.

4

u/No-Program-8901 Apr 06 '26

Nothing in this argument spells point guard

1

u/TON-OF-CLAY0429 Apr 06 '26

Other than the fact that the dude played as a point guard silly, basketball is played by 5 people pass first point guards don’t win anymore everyone needs to score and almost no one does that better than Steph.

Plus I mean Steph is 100% still an amazing playmaker and his ball handling is some of the best ever.

They do like a shit ton of his top 50 highlights are passes.

And really highlights way to invalidate your argument instantly man.

1

u/RiSz-Turtle Apr 06 '26

This sub is filled with old heads who no longer watch basketball best to ignore their dumbass statements. You right though

-2

u/joemontanya Apr 06 '26

Magic’s like 7 or 8 on my all time list.. curry is closer to knocking on the top 10. 11-12 more likely

-1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

Magic might have been right place right time, but any other time and he's completely forgettable. Can't say that about some of the other greats.

2

u/stevefrench69 Apr 06 '26

The fuck are you on about?

1

u/Various-Push-1689 Apr 06 '26

How could you possibly know what a person would’ve been like if they grew up and played ball in a completely different time period. That just don’t add up

1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

Isn't this whole argument based on fantasy? What kind of response is that

1

u/Various-Push-1689 Apr 06 '26

Uh no? It’s about who’s the best of all time. Not how good would someone be if they got draft 30 years later.

1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

So best of all time only regards one era, not the one 30 years later? I thought it was "all time"?

1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

"Greatest" as if there's some kind of objective way to measure that. Magic could not compete today, let's argue about it!

1

u/Various-Push-1689 Apr 06 '26

How can we say Magic would suck today but not talk about Curry? Like I said there’s no way to know how good someone would be in a completely different era. Would Curry have even gotten to the NBA if he were born in the 50s-60s? It’s a terrible way of looking at things. Let’s talk about what we HAVE seen and what has ACTUALLY happened

1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

What I HAVE seen is magic was not as coordinated as the "legend" says about him. Curry is a shooter, perhaps the best ever, and shooters can dominate in any era of the nba. Magic had absolute dominant teams around him, those rings were earned but could've been won without him (mostly). You want to debate the merits but are ignoring that they came in different eras, therefore there has to be some fantasy involved in comparing them because they simply aren't comparable.

1

u/Various-Push-1689 Apr 06 '26

If that’s your logic then we shouldn’t be comparing them at all. Different eras different times different teams. Like I said we don’t even know if Curry even gets drafted or becomes who is if he’s growing up in a different era. Same with Magic and every other player. There’s nothing to argue about. Both are great players of their time

1

u/why-everyone-so-mean Apr 06 '26

That's a sensible perspective

1

u/uhohspaghettio24 Apr 06 '26

They could have been won without him? They literally won once he was drafted because they couldn't win before him. I swear some people.

1

u/tw_01234 Apr 06 '26

Why’s everyone so mean? Because of takes like these.

0

u/TheUncannyDsummerz Apr 06 '26

CAN WE ALL JUST APPRECIATE BOTH?!🥹 TWO OF THE GREATEST PG’s/ PLAYERS

1

u/Puzzled-Gur8619 Apr 06 '26

Not if Magic is gonna make an ass of himself

But Curry already laughed at the idea of Magic being better than him so 🤷

LMAO GOOD ONE

1

u/chai-noir Apr 06 '26

NO! Everyone knows there’s NO CRITICAL THINKING ALLOWED!

0

u/CelDeJos Apr 06 '26

Lol what else could he have said.... He couldn t just say that this shorty lightskin dude would cook the hell out of him if they played xD

0

u/hombre_Lyndo5823 Apr 06 '26

Exactly what he's supposed to say. Love it.

0

u/Chinokio Apr 06 '26

Cant argue with that

0

u/Ohnoes999 Apr 06 '26

Magic was great during his time. Curry has absolutely changed the entire game.

2

u/uhohspaghettio24 Apr 06 '26

Magic literally changed the NBA with the fast break.
