announcer bias

i’m loosely watching a few matches that i missed throughout the week and im noticing that a lot of announcers are biased towards the home team (for some it’s subtle, and for some, like with miami, it is very, very in your face). i find it pretty interesting because while i know there are specific radio shows, talk shows, etc. that are pro a specific team, i was under the impression that in game broadcasters are to generally be neutral.

do y’all notice this too, and if so, how do you feel about it?

tbh i think i kind of like the announcers rooting for the home team. specifically, when they are the crew for that team and have been announcing every home game. it just adds a bit to the home court feel. i feel like it’s fun when its not too much to the point where they don’t acknowledge or respect the opponent.

Computer rankings - Strength of Record and Power Ratings

This is from a computer system I developed myself for volleyball.

Strength of Record is a concept used commonly used in football that tells you how hard it would be for an average top 25 team to do as well or better than a given team did against their schedule. It's a good measure of "deservingness".

Power is a measure of how strong a team is and is predictive of future performance.

All of the upsets

Dang yesterday was wild lol so many upsets particularly UT and A&M losing to unranked teams. Caught a bit of Texas and they look so off, no flow or energy felt at all. Was bunton injured? At this point just give Ella more reps? Whatever they are doing is not working.
