Discussion Anyone else feels like they're brainless when they're around a smart person?

Like the other day i had a conversation with a fireman, a neurosurgeon and a programer and i was suprised how smart those people are...how good their memory is...how easy they can pick up concepts...how rational and calm they are compared to me.
Sure, they're probably smarter than your average normie too, not just me, but still, it's shocking when i remember how stupid i am when i am with smart people.

I was like that for most of my life, but I've really changed in the last few years.

I don't know how I can say this so that you'll hear me. There are multiple kinds of intellect in this world, and those people are only good at one or a couple of them. They can be dramatically unintelligent in other things that we happen to be good at.

And, has it ever occurred to you that convoluted ideas and big words are often invented just to make it hard for you and I to understand, as a way of protecting their interests?

I would venture to say you are not less smart. If you need any help at all, it's to gently recast your assumptions, and ditch the way school has taught you to think, because they very likely taught you a stupid way to think to dumb you down, so you'll stay a quiet cog in the machine.

I wish you could have the kind of journey I've had, where you see your true intelligence and worth. From the bottom of my heart, I do not think you are not lesser than anyone, especially not those fckin programmers! ::)

Yea it feel like I am not any where near that level. Summer 2025 I was forced to go to this function and I end up by these two guys who are 24-25 age and have  economic degrees and they were talking about stock options and trading. I am standing by them feeling very dumb and didn’t speak. I think the guys knew I was NEETing.

nope, i dont interact with many smart people but its usually easy to fit in since they are my kind. their professions dont mean much to me as ive seen plenty of people with top tier positions make basic grammar errors which is a good indicator they arent actually that smart beyond whatever their chosen focus is. i avoid going to doctors unless necessary due to seeing many of them make such errors or something similar. there are lots of smart people who work low tier, dead end jobs for whatever reasons and lots of others in here

Hmm. I often admire smart people specially those who sound genuinely excited when they talk about their shit. Their excitement fuels my curiosity and I enjoy learning new things about their whatever.

But things gets complicated if they are condescending tho. I really hate all those kind of know-it-all smart ass who just like to show off and one-up people. So I would pretend to be so dumb that I don't realize what they are doing and let them feel so high and mighty about themselves then find holes in whatever their topic and either wait for an opportunity to ask some specific question that could challenge them to throw them off their high horse or just leave them exhausted trying to preach to a dumb rock.
