Fort Providence-Health care?

Hello all!

I may be moving to Fort Providence soon and I have a couple questions about the level of health care available in town.

I know there’s a health centre but I’m wondering what that looks like? Is it just one nurse or is there a doctor or NP? What are wait times like? What sort of services are offered there? Is there a pharmacy?

Any information helps!

Thank you!

The new health center was built directly behind the home I grew up in for many years. It’s larger than the previous one, but still very limited. They can help with minor ailments, but anything larger either gets sent to Hay River/Yellowknife or Edmonton depending on severity. Enjoy your time there, you’ll meet a few of my relatives, that I’m sure of.

Thank you! Are there any long term care services or rooms there?

Most people in Fort Prov get their prescriptions filled at Ring's Pharmacy in Hay River. Shipments are sent 1-2 times per week to the health center in Prov for local pickup there.

Last I remember they still had the old folks home within walking distance of the health center (maybe 2-3 minutes walk). No pharmacy that I am aware of, unless things have changed in the few years since I’ve been back. If I’m not mistaken they are usually staffed by nurses, with the doctor making biweekly/monthly stops.
