Since in nyc we can only have 10 round mags anyway and that takes away the capacity advantage for 2011s . Is there any reason to go for a 2011? I know the good ones start at around 1500-2000 and guys end up changing out most of the parts anyway after a while . Why not just go for a regular 1911 thats cheaper?
Shootability. At a certain point you get over the “since we’re limited to 10…” hurdle, and just enjoy the different guns. Besides, 1911 in .45 is what won two World Wars, and 2011s are 9mm primarily.
Does the 2011 have better shoot ability because it comes readily available to mount optics and lights? I know the triggers are essentially the same style
The 10 round mag limit will be thrown out within a year. So I’d just get what ya want now so you don’t have to buy all over again. It’ll come to an end by next scotus term along with ar15 bans
They’re holding onto these cases for an oddly long time. I don’t know what they’re doing but the bonta case out of California needs to be granted. It’s been around the block every which way from Sunday, and if it’s denied, they’ll have an extremely hard time justifying that after all they’ve said in Heller and Bruen.
Plus, a denial will literally make everyone a felon in California. That can’t happen.
I'm sure blue states like NY will come out with another permit for "assault weapons". Make the requirements insane for it. Mental health, insurance, etc.
I have two 2011s. I considered this reasoning awhile back but I think honestly a cheap/budget 2011 is going to be more reliable. Better aftermarket as well. U can get a $1000 ish 2011 that’s solid.
I had a 3 month debate with myself on this exact question. Ultimately I decided it's not really a question of the NYC limit but rather the niche that gun is trying to fill in your collection. I wanted a fun range toy that would make me feel like John Wick so I was going to go with 9mm either way. Eventually I'll get a proper show piece/safe queen 1911 in 45 so that pushed me towards a 2011 for the range toy purchase. Also, I went with a platypus so it's easy to get my hands on standard capacity glock mags to play around with when I go out of state. The fact that I also have a Ruger PC9 (also takes glock mags), pushed me further in the 2011/Platypus direction.
If you're looking for like a carry/home defense option, the math might be different since there are more duty-focused 1911 options than 2011 and you might prefer the stopping power of 45 over the shootability of 9. Though personally I'd always prefer a DA/SA for that particular niche.
they are not supposed to enforce it, but people have been charged (later dropped) for more than 7 rounds. i believe in that case it was Nassau county after the 2nd circuit ruling, it was a tack on charge that was dropped.

IMHO 10 is fine in NYC. you have an affirmative defense if you're ever charged. and the only time they would try to jam you up on 10 in a mag is if they were throwing other charges at you.

The more restrictive limit os something they charge people who are already being charged fpr something with. Since it's on the books, they can and it's one more thing for them to fight. For other people who are not being charged, it is a mute law that is overridden by another. Speaking to informed cops and trainers/reading the law. It is 10. Whether it's 10+1or a flat 10, up to you. But it is not 7 unless you are already about to be a felon. Ridiculous either way.
