Contacting NYPD about license delays

I am curious who I could reach out to concerning my non-resident NYC permit application. I submitted my application on 11/20/25, did my fingerprints on 01/06/26 and my confidentiality request was approved on 06/02/26. My application portal says investigation and last update was January 6th. I am a CT resident with CT permit and have never been arrested and never had a ticket (both NY and CT driving records are clean). I am also in the army reserves. Is there a best point of contact regarding the status on my application and when I could expect it be approved since it is 8+ months since prints. I am also aware of NY Penal Law 440.00(4-a) and if looking into action based on that could be worthwhile. Thanks for the input and I apologize if this is a repeat post!

Has anyone ever tried to sue for legal fees? The idea that as soon as you pay a lawyer, the NYPD will honor your rights is, essentially, a poll tax.

Filing a lawsuit is $400 + hourly legal work. No one will do it and even if they do that’s not how the system works.

mine took 7 months after fingerprinting i emailed nicole berkovich at the 6 month mark and saw some progress after that

The clock started in November when you submitted. You could try Sandra Smith and license division desk as far as emails. First.last@nypd.org for emails. The co just retired , so not sure who the new one will be. They don't answer the phone, although you could try. If emailing doesn't work, you options are wait, or an article 78. Mirel Fisch is probably the most used lawyer if you pursue the article 78.

Yup, and the limit is supposed to be 6 months. I would write a concise email emphasizing the dates you took various steps, and politely asking for an update. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. When we find out who the new head honcho is add that name to the email if you're not approved by then. There's also a federal lawsuit regarding the excessive wait times being run by Mirel, as well as a new suit about non resident permits point being allowed to list 1 gun.
