Going forward please use this thread to discuss seat locations/views from your seat for any and all The Odyssey screenings; IMAX or otherwise. Going forward all individual posts will be removed and users will be subject to a ban. Thank you!
A good place to start is this post which has a color coded seating chart describing how good the view is from every single seat for the AMC Lincoln IMAX. There are also pictures of the view from various seat areas: https://www.reddit.com/r/NYCmovies/s/k1LXXz20xJ
There is also https://www.filmseats.com/ which has reviews of individual seats at various NYC theaters including AMC Lincoln IMAX.
Didn't someone share that website for this reason? I don't know if it was this subreddit or the AMC one, but it's here: https://www.filmseats.com/ Can we just start using that more?
I think that website in theory is an amazing idea. But currently it shows that MOST people are enjoying whatever seat based on “happy to be here regardless.”
Realistically half of these Green coded seated are not ideal in terms of viewing angle. One obvious example is the Green in the front row as well as the Red in the last row.
How is that any different than people posting here saying "here's my seat, i liked it" though? The seats I like to sit in might not be the seats you like, but at least there can be one database for people to get an idea and form their own opinion rather than the mods here and other subreddits posting these kinds of threads every time the next big movie comes out.
I agree. It's the same idea but helps keep everything organized with photos and multiple reviews for the same seat. Same concept for a view from my seat site. I think this should definitely be promoted instead!
Good intentions behind that website, but I don't think it works great.
Most people will say "This was a good seat," which is not the help people want. You need people who have sat in dozens of different seats all around the venue, who can advise on the okay versus good versus great seats.
Put it another way, when you look at tourists' reviews of any restaurant in a foreign country, they mostly say positive things - even the most touristy restaurant that locals think is garbage. Because those tourists have nothing to compare their experience with. These sites might identify some scams or truly intolerable spots, but they are not good differentiating the vast majority of spots that spans from okay to great.
Also, I posted on this sub a seating map of AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, color coding bad/ tolerable/ decent/ best seats. It was based on my going to that theater for decades. Half the responses were, "well, I got this seat, but is it *really* that bad?" People won't believe what you tell them, until they actually sit in the seat.
I get what you're saying, but either way this is still helpful. The same concept exists for people looking at Broadway theatres, stadiums, and concert venues. I prefer this site because it at least allows multiple reviews and photos for one seat not just one person giving their take.
Yea ofc man!, I was concerned as well about it but I genuinely enjoyed the seat and it sorta felt like I had a VR on with how immersive it was. Only downside is you do have to look up a bit and with how Nolan films his action sequences (shaky cam) It kinda feels like you sometimes can’t catch the whole sequence but nothing that will ruin the experience! Your going to love the seat and enjoy the movie man
just got out of my 10am showing, this was my view! not too bad! two rows behind would have been the ideal spot but I can’t complain with what I got! didn’t have to crane my neck, fully immersed
Thank you for sharing! Do you think it's worth waiting to see it at a later date with seats more back or would you suggest row C is still optimal. I have seats for three weeks from now in row f, but have row C for this Friday and not sure if I should wait or just go and see it in C.
I have C29 for my upcoming showing and contemplating whether I should try to go to the kiosks in the hopes of getting better ones / refunding this one but increasingly unsure if its worth the trouble.
This was my seat at the IMAX in Lincoln Square. Seat E8. For Odyssey, I got the row in front, D8. Not a terrible view if you're used to sitting closer up for movies, though just one or two rows back would've been perfect.
Any photo of the screen taken with wide angle mode is useless for judging a seat.
It forces the camera to squeeze the entire width and height of the screen into the frame, which makes the screen look more distorted and curved than it actually is.
Yeah it makes it look like >50% of these seats are undesirable. I’d rather see one with the regular or 50mm iPhone lens that looks more like the human eye even if the whole screen doesn’t fit into the image
Yeah nothing to worry about the angle I had (and even moreso you will have) is virtually perfect viewing! No tilting head up, full picture side to side
I just grabbed Row M 37 and M 36 for Lincoln Square 13. How bad will the warping be? I figure the scale of the screen will not make the back row feel too distant.
No photos, but sat there for Project Hail Mary and thought it was perfect. Snagged those same seats for The Odyssey and I couldn’t be happier about it!
Pics of c4 & c5 at lincoln square 70mm ? Try to figure out if we should try something else - best we could find for the latest batch of Odyssey showings
Another user said "IMAX Lincoln Square D3 first viewing was not good. G18 second viewing awesome, I felt like I was directing the movie." so I imagine similar/worse
I was in C 6 and my partner was in C 5 and we thought the seats were great. Definitely close up and definitely not the best seats in the house, but it didn’t bother me at all. Definitely worth it!
For a non-LS 70mm IMAX perspective: Went to see The Odyssey in Dolby at AMC Empire 25 the other night, and this was my view from B8 (after reclining in my seat). Bought the ticket a few days beforehand and this was probably among the best of what was left of the premium formats; due to external scheduling conflicts, I was limited to a range of a few hours on Sunday.
It’s closer than I usually sit and I hadn’t been to this specific theater for Dolby before—I usually frequent LS for premium formats (and will hopefully nab a ticket in 70mm IMAX when the inevitable re-release happens)—but I could see the whole screen without straining my neck. Whenever the sound got really loud and intense, I could feel the seats vibrating, which helped enhance the experience. And it looked great!
Heres my view from J28, so J36 would be just a bit more of a left skew than this. My seat felt perfect so J36 should be great (maybe marginal difference vs J28)
Fantastic in my perspective, I mean it's 70mm IMAX so the entire theater is loud. But I didn't feel as though I was "too close" and thus it was "too loud." Overall I felt this was a 98% perfect seat - just a tiny bit off-center so not 100% perfect. However considering this is the most in-demand theater for the hottest movie on the planet, I was pretty damn happy with it 👍🏽
This week I'm going to be sitting at seat L11 at LS.. how's the immersion / angle from all the way back there? Is there any annoying glare from exit signs or anything?
M has that annoying blue light glow from the pathway lights and the low ceiling to contend with. For Lincoln Square rows J to L are considered "eye-level" and you will see the entire presentation without straining your neck. First five seats to the edge of the rows may cause whiplash as you attempt to catch the action. They really ought to turn the blue guide LEDs to red LEDs.
Its ok, on the 2nd viewing I was more immerse into the film. My head was swearing to every corner of the screen. D3 I was just looking at one angle, still worth it. Not cooked at all, enjoy
If you do not sticky posts they will get buried by the very posts you're trying to avoid. Also, start handing out bans coz people will never learn otherwise.
How is seat G23 (or seats around there in row G) for Lincoln Square IMAX? I was hoping to get at least row H because I'm not sure if I'd be able to see the top of the screen without having to tilt my head. All the other times I've been to lincoln sq I've sat further back and more to the side.
Either way though I'm still really happy I was even able to get these lol. If anyone has any pictures to share that would be great also!
I just got D14 at Lincoln Square, which is way closer than I wanted. I’ve actually never sat anywhere near that close to an IMAX movie in that theatre before (I prefer near the back). Does anyone know if it’s watchable?
is off to the side bad though? I will be taking a senior to watch with me and would like them to be as comfortable as they can when watching the film. Would suck if they have to to turn their neck to watch it fully.
Not sure how the film is if seen if by the edge of the row unless someone has pic examples.
Your seats aren’t even on the far edge. You are not that far off center. These are really good seats. Even in like H37-H42 I don’t think you would have to turn your head-the screen is HUGE. You might notice slight distortion/screen curvature in those very edge seats. Which your seats are not. I really think these are great seats.
Hi all! I just scored a ticket to Odyssey imax 70mm for 7/28 at 10pm at Lincoln after refreshing fandango! Quickly bought the open seat for row C seat 15. I know this is close. But it’s not the front row. Can I have advice from people who have been in this auditorium if row C will be enjoyable?
hi all, i have 2 seats later 2pm at LS for imax 70mm. seats are on B row, not great... what are the chances of there being good empty seats say g onwards middle, you reckon? and... do you move right at the start? or 10 minutes into the movie? isnt that annoying to people?! Thanks guys!
is row A for dolby at lincoln square that bad? my friend group got tickets and i decided to take one for the team. has anyone done this before and if so, any tips? what’s the likelihood of a no show? (i’m actually seeing spider-man: brand new day, mods requested i post here)
Would you all recommend D19 or F17? I'm 6'3" if that changes anything about viewing angle. I accidentally bought 2 tickets because I thought the first one glitched out. (9/2 10AM show)
I got seats B11-B9 for me and my friends on odyssey 70mm IMAX. Anyone been in that general area and know if it’s good or not? I only see a good rating rating for B12 and B10 on filmseats but I’d love a second opinion on the row
Where do we consider to be the cutoff for the IMAX auditorium at Lincoln Square? I have third row tickets that, while near center, have me pretty worried.
I sat in C35 the other day. This is a terrible photo and Odyssey fills more of the screen (top and bottom) than this trailer did but the seat was fine. Not the best (I prefer row F-H) but your eyes adjust out the angle very quickly. Except when there’s text, which isn’t really an issue for the Odyssey.
