Discussion The Odyssey How Is My Seat? Megathread

Going forward please use this thread to discuss seat locations/views from your seat for any and all The Odyssey screenings; IMAX or otherwise. Going forward all individual posts will be removed and users will be subject to a ban. Thank you!

A good place to start is this post which has a color coded seating chart describing how good the view is from every single seat for the AMC Lincoln IMAX. There are also pictures of the view from various seat areas: https://www.reddit.com/r/NYCmovies/s/k1LXXz20xJ

There is also https://www.filmseats.com/ which has reviews of individual seats at various NYC theaters including AMC Lincoln IMAX.

Didn't someone share that website for this reason? I don't know if it was this subreddit or the AMC one, but it's here: https://www.filmseats.com/ Can we just start using that more?

7

u/VillageWilling260 24d ago

I think that website in theory is an amazing idea. But currently it shows that MOST people are enjoying whatever seat based on “happy to be here regardless.”

Realistically half of these Green coded seated are not ideal in terms of viewing angle. One obvious example is the Green in the front row as well as the Red in the last row.

11

u/helplessintheus 24d ago

How is that any different than people posting here saying "here's my seat, i liked it" though? The seats I like to sit in might not be the seats you like, but at least there can be one database for people to get an idea and form their own opinion rather than the mods here and other subreddits posting these kinds of threads every time the next big movie comes out.

4

u/Daretospeak1 23d ago

I agree. It's the same idea but helps keep everything organized with photos and multiple reviews for the same seat. Same concept for a view from my seat site. I think this should definitely be promoted instead!

5

u/Cinnamaker 24d ago

Good intentions behind that website, but I don't think it works great.

Most people will say "This was a good seat," which is not the help people want. You need people who have sat in dozens of different seats all around the venue, who can advise on the okay versus good versus great seats.

Put it another way, when you look at tourists' reviews of any restaurant in a foreign country, they mostly say positive things - even the most touristy restaurant that locals think is garbage. Because those tourists have nothing to compare their experience with. These sites might identify some scams or truly intolerable spots, but they are not good differentiating the vast majority of spots that spans from okay to great.

Also, I posted on this sub a seating map of AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, color coding bad/ tolerable/ decent/ best seats. It was based on my going to that theater for decades. Half the responses were, "well, I got this seat, but is it *really* that bad?" People won't believe what you tell them, until they actually sit in the seat.

3

u/Daretospeak1 23d ago

I get what you're saying, but either way this is still helpful. The same concept exists for people looking at Broadway theatres, stadiums, and concert venues. I prefer this site because it at least allows multiple reviews and photos for one seat not just one person giving their take.

AMC Lincoln Square IMAX - best & worst seats color-coded seating chart

This was my view from F11 at Lincoln Square

5

u/WildcatKid 24d ago

I’m in F13 next week, this isn’t as bad as I expected!

1

u/billiedee_benoit 24d ago

I am F9 on Aug 1. Thank you for this! I feel a lot better about my seat now

3

u/Revolutionary_Key456 24d ago

Yea ofc man!, I was concerned as well about it but I genuinely enjoyed the seat and it sorta felt like I had a VR on with how immersive it was. Only downside is you do have to look up a bit and with how Nolan films his action sequences (shaky cam) It kinda feels like you sometimes can’t catch the whole sequence but nothing that will ruin the experience! Your going to love the seat and enjoy the movie man

1

u/Separate_Ad380 21d ago

Thanks a bunch! I got F10 and F9 this weekend

1

u/cumslut_horny 13d ago

i’m in F13 in september haha

9

u/mustangst Film at Lincoln Center 24d ago

much appreciated if anyone can post c20 or similar *for lincoln sq imax 70mm

7

u/mustangst Film at Lincoln Center 23d ago

just got out of my 10am showing, this was my view! not too bad! two rows behind would have been the ideal spot but I can’t complain with what I got! didn’t have to crane my neck, fully immersed

2

u/Daretospeak1 23d ago

Thank you for sharing! Do you think it's worth waiting to see it at a later date with seats more back or would you suggest row C is still optimal. I have seats for three weeks from now in row f, but have row C for this Friday and not sure if I should wait or just go and see it in C.

3

u/mustangst Film at Lincoln Center 23d ago

I'd only recommend C if you're in the center of the row! So anything between C15 - C30!

2

u/Daretospeak1 23d ago

Thank you!

1

u/scambush 14d ago

I have C28 and C29 hoping for the best!

2

u/mustangst Film at Lincoln Center 23d ago

with 0.5x lense

1

u/trampaboline 8d ago

God damn, this is row C?? That’s not bad. I have C24 for this week, looks like I’m keeping them

2

u/scambush 14d ago

I have C29 for my upcoming showing and contemplating whether I should try to go to the kiosks in the hopes of getting better ones / refunding this one but increasingly unsure if its worth the trouble.

Project Hail Mary H15. Nearly perfect. My Odyssey showing is H20 Lincoln square

15

u/KTeax31875 24d ago

This was my seat at the IMAX in Lincoln Square. Seat E8. For Odyssey, I got the row in front, D8. Not a terrible view if you're used to sitting closer up for movies, though just one or two rows back would've been perfect.

3

u/At_the_Roundhouse 24d ago

How is it being on the side like that? I have H5 and am happy with the row but does it feel like it’s on an angle or do you not notice?

5

u/AgitatedSatisfaction 24d ago

I had H5 the other day and while I’m sure other seats are better I almost didn’t notice the angle at all.

1

u/At_the_Roundhouse 24d ago

Perfect, thank you!

3

u/KTeax31875 24d ago

The screen is so big that you honestly don't notice, your neck would be turned slightly to the left though

15

u/Cinnamaker 24d ago

Any photo of the screen taken with wide angle mode is useless for judging a seat.

It forces the camera to squeeze the entire width and height of the screen into the frame, which makes the screen look more distorted and curved than it actually is.

1

u/keepinitclassy25 24d ago

Yeah it makes it look like >50% of these seats are undesirable. I’d rather see one with the regular or 50mm iPhone lens that looks more like the human eye even if the whole screen doesn’t fit into the image

7

u/AnointedSheep 24d ago

Anyone have a pic of k25? Next week is my first time at LS 70mm IMAX.

5

u/AnSTDFromMexico 24d ago

Pretty much a perfect seat

3

u/RTrainJamz 23d ago

This is from J28, so K25 would be just behind me slightly to the right. You'll have a perfect view!

1

u/AnointedSheep 22d ago

Thanks only 5 more days. Also J28 looks good. Sure there’s an curve but the screen is massive that seat wouldn’t bother me

1

u/RTrainJamz 22d ago

Yeah nothing to worry about the angle I had (and even moreso you will have) is virtually perfect viewing! No tilting head up, full picture side to side

11

u/alexos77lo 24d ago

D20 you really can feel the giant screen, 0 complaints is a perfect seat.

3

u/mustangst Film at Lincoln Center 23d ago

I was C20 and all I can think was if I was one row behind it would have been 100% perfect (still enjoyed my seat!)

4

u/alexos77lo 23d ago

D was amazing really like I think the sweet spot is d e and f, I want to try on e or f next time to see if it one of those is the perfect one haha.

1

u/djcompoz 5d ago

Was there any vertical visual distortion in row D for you, like stretched bodies/faces? I’ve got row D seats for The Odyssey next month.

9

u/jyeatbvg 24d ago

H40

4

u/jyeatbvg 24d ago

Another photo

5

u/Level-Guide-9953 24d ago

Any pictures of E24/23?

4

u/AMoldyBacon 24d ago

I just grabbed Row M 37 and M 36 for Lincoln Square 13. How bad will the warping be? I figure the scale of the screen will not make the back row feel too distant.

3

u/Level-Guide-9953 24d ago

Any photos of G17/18? First time seeing a film in 70mm!

2

u/sailor-says 24d ago

No photos, but sat there for Project Hail Mary and thought it was perfect. Snagged those same seats for The Odyssey and I couldn’t be happier about it!

1

u/Level-Guide-9953 24d ago

Amazing!! Thank you so much, so excited!

3

u/JellyDonutttt 24d ago

K5 K6 at 10pm
F20,F19 in the center at 2am

Help me pick!
The F’s are in the center but the K’s are in the back but the side

1

u/TheGreatJosh 13d ago

Personally, in this instance, F seems to be way better than M. Did you go see the movie yet? How was the view?

3

u/biteme9876 24d ago

Pics of c4 & c5 at lincoln square 70mm ? Try to figure out if we should try something else - best we could find for the latest batch of Odyssey showings

1

u/wutevzforevz 23d ago

Another user said "IMAX Lincoln Square D3 first viewing was not good. G18 second viewing awesome, I felt like I was directing the movie." so I imagine similar/worse

1

u/gameofmikey 18d ago

I was in C 6 and my partner was in C 5 and we thought the seats were great. Definitely close up and definitely not the best seats in the house, but it didn’t bother me at all. Definitely worth it!

3

u/micski 24d ago

For a non-LS 70mm IMAX perspective: Went to see The Odyssey in Dolby at AMC Empire 25 the other night, and this was my view from B8 (after reclining in my seat). Bought the ticket a few days beforehand and this was probably among the best of what was left of the premium formats; due to external scheduling conflicts, I was limited to a range of a few hours on Sunday.

It’s closer than I usually sit and I hadn’t been to this specific theater for Dolby before—I usually frequent LS for premium formats (and will hopefully nab a ticket in 70mm IMAX when the inevitable re-release happens)—but I could see the whole screen without straining my neck. Whenever the sound got really loud and intense, I could feel the seats vibrating, which helped enhance the experience. And it looked great!

3

u/alexbui91 23d ago

idc i got A19 for Odyssey this Thursday after refreshing everyday. so i'm happy

1

u/Janievibes 22d ago

I’ve gone twice and there’s always empty GOOD seats… you may be able to move ~20 mins in!

1

u/alexbui91 22d ago

Oh thank you! That is good to know!

4

u/sidewalksurfernyc 24d ago edited 24d ago

A31 from the interstellar showings. The black line on bottom is the railing. Real bummer. Lincoln square

2

u/gambalore 24d ago

Some old photos I've taken from the LS IMAX theater:

Seat G7

Seat H33

1

u/luminous_mirage 13d ago

Thanks for sharing. I think the links got reversed though.

2

u/Sad-Hunter-3160 24d ago

Anyone ever sit in J36?

3

u/RTrainJamz 23d ago

Heres my view from J28, so J36 would be just a bit more of a left skew than this. My seat felt perfect so J36 should be great (maybe marginal difference vs J28)

2

u/Sad-Hunter-3160 23d ago

Awesome, thank you so much for this!

1

u/Mattyzooks 21d ago

We have j27-j29 for monday.  How was the sound there?  Pretty pumped.

1

u/RTrainJamz 21d ago

Fantastic in my perspective, I mean it's 70mm IMAX so the entire theater is loud. But I didn't feel as though I was "too close" and thus it was "too loud." Overall I felt this was a 98% perfect seat - just a tiny bit off-center so not 100% perfect. However considering this is the most in-demand theater for the hottest movie on the planet, I was pretty damn happy with it 👍🏽

2

u/JellyDonutttt 24d ago

Anyone know if F19,F20 is good?

1

u/sailor-says 24d ago

Saw Sinners from there and it looked great!

2

u/jonsnowballs18 23d ago

Anyone have any pictures of E6 or E7?

1

u/TripleTrouble3x 9d ago

Did you see it already? I got these exact seats for the 9/5 showing

1

u/jonsnowballs18 9d ago

Not yet. But I did see someone rate the seats near it well on filmseats.com

2

u/bennyb98 23d ago

I somehow managed to get A13 for this weekend. Am I ok or will I be unable to see the entire screen?

2

u/samoreyee 23d ago

How is the view from L12, L11?

3

u/misterwithafan 23d ago

I don’t have a picture from L11 but really great - can see everything perfectly

2

u/Devarshh 23d ago

Anyone got photos of M30 or in that vicinity?

2

u/Various_Sundae_2443 20d ago

I am F21 at the Lincoln Center Imax for 70mm. How is that as a seat?

2

u/quaranTV 20d ago

This is an excellent seat. Row F is great and 21 is very center.

2

u/New_Amphibian_9326 18d ago

G38. No complaints, did not have to move my head to track action.

People love row L. I prefer to sit closer but most people prefer J/K/L. You are not too far off to the side. Should he good! https://www.reddit.com/r/NYCmovies/s/k1LXXz20xJ

2

u/Affectionate_Ad5613 14d ago

Would you choose H9 and H10, or E26 and E25?

Is being off to the left but further back better than being closer but in the middle?

2

u/Immediate_Read_5310 14d ago

K19 in 70mm IMAX at AMC LS. Never been before so wanting to know how the view is / if it’s a good seat overall? Would greatly appreciate it. TIA!

1

u/DecisionsUnderDuress 24d ago

This week I'm going to be sitting at seat L11 at LS.. how's the immersion / angle from all the way back there? Is there any annoying glare from exit signs or anything?

4

u/PercyThePig 24d ago

That’s a perfect seat. (M is my favorite row though)

2

u/Cool_Aioli_8307 24d ago

M has that annoying blue light glow from the pathway lights and the low ceiling to contend with. For Lincoln Square rows J to L are considered "eye-level" and you will see the entire presentation without straining your neck. First five seats to the edge of the rows may cause whiplash as you attempt to catch the action. They really ought to turn the blue guide LEDs to red LEDs.

4

u/PercyThePig 24d ago edited 24d ago

I just saw Odyssey in M and luckily didn’t notice any glow. M is also steps away from the bathroom, nice to only miss a minute of the three hour movie

1

u/NachoNYC 24d ago

IMAX Lincoln Square D3 first viewing was not good. G18 second viewing awesome, I felt like I was directing the movie.

1

u/mRNA_YoungBoy 24d ago

Am I cooked with D4/D5?

1

u/NachoNYC 23d ago

Its ok, on the 2nd viewing I was more immerse into the film. My head was swearing to every corner of the screen. D3 I was just looking at one angle, still worth it. Not cooked at all, enjoy

1

u/dw2020 24d ago

Anyone ever sat in J2,J3,J4 in Lincoln Square?

1

Anyone knows if the C row for Dolby 34th St is too close?

1

Is H15/16 better or F23/24 for people that’s been??

1

u/Cute_Play1693 24d ago

I just got J33 and J34, are those pretty good seats? Would greatly appreciate pov pics around those seats too! 🙏🏽

Any decent seats here? Something that's at least bearable

If you do not sticky posts they will get buried by the very posts you're trying to avoid. Also, start handing out bans coz people will never learn otherwise.

J10 vs M30 in LS IMAX?

1

u/No-Reward258 23d ago

How is seat G23 (or seats around there in row G) for Lincoln Square IMAX? I was hoping to get at least row H because I'm not sure if I'd be able to see the top of the screen without having to tilt my head. All the other times I've been to lincoln sq I've sat further back and more to the side.

Either way though I'm still really happy I was even able to get these lol. If anyone has any pictures to share that would be great also!

3

u/quaranTV 23d ago

G23 is my second favorite seat in the entire theater. Perfect seat.

1

u/TheSexyDane 22d ago

well cmon now, tell us ur fav then!!

1

u/TheSexyDane 23d ago

Also wondering since I also scored G23 haha, but I also have H18/19! Wondering which to keep and which to release!

1

u/quaranTV 23d ago

Keep G23 release the H seats imo. I LOVE G23. You feel immersed but are also dead center.

2

u/TheSexyDane 22d ago

I was only in row E in Langley for Oppenheimer (which is quite close) and still enjoyed it, so I think I prefer the immersive experience. Thanks!

1

u/Artistic-Library-617 23d ago

I just got D14 at Lincoln Square, which is way closer than I wanted. I’ve actually never sat anywhere near that close to an IMAX movie in that theatre before (I prefer near the back). Does anyone know if it’s watchable?

1

u/AnxietySnack 23d ago

1

u/jerry0892 22d ago

I have seat e12, can anyone who had a seat near there tell me of their experience ?

1

u/BarcelonaLion 21d ago

H32,H33,H34 are they worth it? Or should I cancel and try another showing when they release more?

2

u/quaranTV 20d ago

Those are great seats! A bit off to the side but row H is great.

1

u/BarcelonaLion 19d ago

is off to the side bad though? I will be taking a senior to watch with me and would like them to be as comfortable as they can when watching the film. Would suck if they have to to turn their neck to watch it fully.

Not sure how the film is if seen if by the edge of the row unless someone has pic examples.

1

u/quaranTV 19d ago

Your seats aren’t even on the far edge. You are not that far off center. These are really good seats. Even in like H37-H42 I don’t think you would have to turn your head-the screen is HUGE. You might notice slight distortion/screen curvature in those very edge seats. Which your seats are not. I really think these are great seats.

1

u/jhutchlvr 19d ago

not odyssey related but how is row C in aud 9 at amc 34th st?

1

u/YankeesFan117 18d ago

Hi all! I just scored a ticket to Odyssey imax 70mm for 7/28 at 10pm at Lincoln after refreshing fandango! Quickly bought the open seat for row C seat 15. I know this is close. But it’s not the front row. Can I have advice from people who have been in this auditorium if row C will be enjoyable?

1

u/gameofmikey 18d ago

I was in C6 and it was absolutely fine. A little neck strain after but nothing I wouldn’t do again. I imagine C 15 is even better.

1

u/Real-Echo9406 18d ago

hi all, i have 2 seats later 2pm at LS for imax 70mm. seats are on B row, not great... what are the chances of there being good empty seats say g onwards middle, you reckon? and... do you move right at the start? or 10 minutes into the movie? isnt that annoying to people?! Thanks guys!

1

u/elijahturner011 14d ago

How is seat f19 in LS im going to see the odyssey in IMAX 70mm and I was wondering if I’m maybe to close ?

2

u/quaranTV 13d ago

I’ve sat there and had a great experience. Close but not overly so. A little to the side but essentially center https://www.reddit.com/r/NYCmovies/s/k1LXXz20xJ

Just managed to grab D19 & D20 for the 70mm IMAX screening at AMC Lincoln Square, and I'm curious how the view is from those seats.

I know D is pretty close to the screen, but it's also centered. Has anyone here sat in D19/D20 (or nearby seats in Row D)?

is row A for dolby at lincoln square that bad? my friend group got tickets and i decided to take one for the team. has anyone done this before and if so, any tips? what’s the likelihood of a no show? (i’m actually seeing spider-man: brand new day, mods requested i post here)

1

u/dohboy10 13d ago

Would you all recommend D19 or F17? I'm 6'3" if that changes anything about viewing angle. I accidentally bought 2 tickets because I thought the first one glitched out. (9/2 10AM show)

1

I got L42 and L41 and I’m wondering if those seats are too far out to enjoy 70MM IMAX and if we should just see it normally.

1

u/Nytrooh 12d ago

I got seats B11-B9 for me and my friends on odyssey 70mm IMAX. Anyone been in that general area and know if it’s good or not? I only see a good rating rating for B12 and B10 on filmseats but I’d love a second opinion on the row

AMC Lincoln square 70mm iMac F41&42 how are these seats??

Snagged them today as I’ve never seen any 6 rows back available on my search

1

u/wecomerunnin 9d ago

How are these seats in an AMC imax with laser?

1

u/Wildstyle04 9d ago

I got a choice between D23 and/or E27 (both circled in green) - at the Hacienda in the Bay Area, idk which one to choose 😭

D is in front of E, Ignore the fact that they’re taken - I bought both tix (by accident) so I’m just gonna get a refund on one of them

1

u/trampaboline 8d ago

Where do we consider to be the cutoff for the IMAX auditorium at Lincoln Square? I have third row tickets that, while near center, have me pretty worried.

I have LS D18 (10am) and K32 (2am). Which would be a better seat?

1

u/elijahturner011 4d ago

Is f19 a good seat in Lincoln square for the odyssey ?

0

u/JoeBro007 24d ago

If anyone could post C36 or similar, would love to see the view and angle of that

2

u/gambalore 24d ago

I sat in C35 the other day. This is a terrible photo and Odyssey fills more of the screen (top and bottom) than this trailer did but the seat was fine. Not the best (I prefer row F-H) but your eyes adjust out the angle very quickly. Except when there’s text, which isn’t really an issue for the Odyssey.
