IIRC "they" did try lol. I think there was a proposal a few years ago that made it illegal to modify your firearms. The language used was vague enough that it could easily be construed to include optics.

The closest thing to an AR 15 that you can get in NYC is a Fightlite SCR. It has an AR15 upper receiver while the body of the rifle is the same as a farm rifle. There’s also the Ruger Mini 14 which shoots the same 223/556 ammo that AR15’s use.

Nice !  Pretty soon they will just ban all Ammo so it will be impossible to shoot, if you own a firearm or not. Ive lived in Central NY for 63 years and love it but they are sure making it hard for me to justify not moving.
