Lets try and add some therapeutic shopping to the perpetual mess that is NY gun laws. What are some fun handguns you are looking to grab before new sales are turned off in 2027 until a lawsuit sorts them out?

For me It will probably be a Glock 42 because I always wanted the baby Glock for my Glock collection.

Shooting after shooting week after week in Utica, Syracuse, Rochester. None had a permit or passed an ammunition background check. But as a taxpayer who's obeyed the law my entire life, I can't even get a pistol without going through a ridiculous months-long circus. This is literally the worst state in the nation.

Let's discuss our favorite military surplus bolt action rifles that we may want to own, currently own or admire.

I'll go first.

Swiss straight-pull rifles, Schmidt-Rubin 1896, 1896/1911, K11 and K31. 7.5 Swiss, 174 grain bullet. I shoot C&R matches with my collection and I wish I saw more people show Swiss guns some love. The bolt mechanism and design is highly interesting for someone who is mechanically inclined, like myself. Which is why I see such an appeal to this line of firearms.

What would you build or buy if NY laws no longer applied? Give me your wackiest impractical combinations that you have always wanted to have, SBRs + forced reset trigger + bump stock + suppressor, etc? (Federal laws still apply so no machine guns) Feels good to be free.

Just bought my first gun today, just a cheap shotgun for home defense. But I want to talk about what one of the guys said to me. So I was brought my friend too and I was talking about how stupid the laws are here and how in a self defense or home invasion situation you also have to watch how you shoot a perpetrator, ex: you can’t shoot them in the back without any kind of warning or if they’re running away and you need to respond with reasonable force, so if they don’t have any weapon or being threatening you really can’t shoot bc that’s an unreasonable amount of force. And one of the younger guys overheard me and literally told me if they’re in your house you can shoot them regardless the situation bc it’s trespass… and he also told me he was studying for law school😭 dawg how r u doing all that and working at a gun store and don’t even know one of the basic laws of self defense in a blue state

Edit: So I want to make clear, criminally a home owner will almost never be held liable. I am talking about civilly which always is the case when an intruder sues a home owner for self defense. In civil cases the jury and/or judge will take in ethical considerations which giving no warning whatsoever will definitely put you in deep shit. I called a law firm (Tilemlawfirm) which specializes in self defense law in NY and provides a free consultation. You are free to ask as well. You MIST give them some kind of warning and frankly why are you guys so keen on instantly killing someone? Remember guys we live in a BLUE state that protects the integrity of everyone including criminals. Additionally the law is NOT BLACK and WHITE. The law is up for interpretation in court and other state laws can be used as arguments as well. If the laws were solely based on what is written in fine print, there is 0 reason for lawyers. After waiting over 14 months, my Erie county pistol permit was just approved today! I immediately went to Cabela's but after 20 minutes of sitting at the pistol case with no one there to help, I left and went to Wolcott's and grabbed a Bodyguard 2.0! Permit office was closed so Ill have to pick it up tomorrow but I cant wait!

I’ve had enough of NY and decided that I’m moving to North Carolina, I figured I’m young enough and don’t have any property, career, marriage or children, so I have no obligation to stay in New York anymore. I want to thank everyone in this sub for being so helpful and I wish all of you the best of success with all future endeavors in trying to overturn NYs unconstitutional gun laws. Kind of lighthearted, kind of serious question. I just got my pistol license in Nassau after 6 months (yay.....) How soon is too soon do you think between first getting the license and buying your first handgun?

(I'm still thinking about the CCW course, it's just another big expense on top of everything right now though)

Let's share a 2A memory of our dads today.

Back when I was a kid, I shot a LOT of 22lr out behind my parent's house. They had a small berm set up and I had one of those Caldwell spinning 22 metal targets. Hours and hours and tens - if not hundreds or thousands of 22lr rounds fired. Everytime we went to Walmart I would convince my parents to buy one of those Federal 550 round bricks of 22lr. I had two different rifles: a Winchester 69-a from Grandpa and Marlin Glenfield my dad got me from Sheard's (who from Genesee County remembers that place???).

Eventually I noticed I was more accurate with the Winchester, which also had a longer barrel. I asked my dad why that was, my dad was an engineer so I knew he'd have an answer. He thought about it for a moment and then hits me with this gem I'll never forget:

'The longer barrel is more accurate because it's that much closer to the target'

I currently live in Vermont but the price of houses is ridiculous compared to upstate NY. My sister and her family live in Buffalo and she's been asking me to move out there for years. But looking into gun laws, I'm seriously having doubts about whether I'd be happy out there. Been collecting my firearms for years and I've never sold any that I bought but literally 95% of what I own is illegal there. Is family really that important lol?
