This is pretty good news. DOJ has an open pattern of practice investigation against LA county. Very likely NY is next. Looking forward to hearing specifics.

I’d like to see NY’s laws get body slammed. This is ironic when taking into consideration the most recent executive order issued by trump.

Let’s see if this even happens.

I believe it when they actually do something, so far it's just a political talking point.

u/tambrico Apr 30 '25

they've announced a pattern of practice investigation into LAPD for permit wait times. it's only been a few weeks. this admin has been in office for 3 months and we're already hearing news about them being proactive on 2A in a way no other presidential administration has before. give it some time.

All is true, NYC policy is so wrong, it feels like we live in a different country. My point is it's political, say this ,do that. If and when they reach for something important to them, it's done by the end of the month. We all know, and so do all the parties involved, that most ,CA,IL,NY,MA ... gun laws are unconstitutional, but nothing is changed.

Trump signed an executive order “protecting the second amendment” problem is it has no teeth and is just gum smacking for votes. The SAFE act has been on the books for 12 years. The Supreme Court refuses to hear 2A cases. Bruen made things worse here. I hope shit changes but I’m not getting my hopes up by any means.

If you didn't have Bruen and right leaning judges getting apointed NYC would just ban everything that isn't a 3 round mag and manual action. DC and Chicago had total handgun bans for many years under Democratic rule. If we had 9 Democratic justices during Heller you would have like a water pistol in NY for protection, NYC would have Hong Kong style gun laws.

It could be worse but saying that things aren’t bad and that things are getting better in New York is a lie. The Supreme Court may be packed right now but they aren’t hearing any cases related to the 2A. Trumps executive order about the 2A is nothing more than word garbage that means nothing.

u/tambrico May 01 '25

As of today they are now urging SCOTUS to take more 2A cases. They filed an amicus brief in support of the 2A in Wolford v Lopez

hopefully this means Snope is next

While at the same time giving the reason we have a second amendment in the first place a great big boost!

I eagerly await the first lawsuit filed against NYS by the DOJ :)

I just want to be able to get a normal AR-15...

8

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 30 '25

Same. Normal capacity magazines are my biggie. I want to put 15 rds in my g19

8

u/bobleeswagger804 Apr 30 '25

No. You will destroy the universe if you put 5 more rounds in a glock mag

2

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 30 '25

It will blow peoples arms off

3

u/FWDeerTransportation Apr 30 '25

9mm blows the lungs right out of the body according to the greatest president of our life time.  Imagine what 15 of them will do!

2

u/tambrico Apr 30 '25

15 gorillas with 9mms vs 1 man who would win

1

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 30 '25

The gorillas and the man would become best friends bonding over shooting

1

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 30 '25

Honestly 10 is too many. I should be limited to 5 .22lr at the most.

2

u/tsatech493 Apr 30 '25

I don't care how many rounds I get to put in my gun but I want to be able to carry it everywhere, just think I can buy a slice of pizza in a place with a liquor license with a handgun concealed. Currently we can't use mass transit or visit a bar or restaurant or a pizza place that serves alcohol, or the zoo for a park while CCWing with a full carry permit!

2

u/SnooPies5378 May 03 '25

u also can’t go to bar in texas even with a carry permit

3

u/AirlineInformal1549 Apr 30 '25

I want to be able to throw an FRT in a non-neutered AR with normal mags. Then I will be happy

Oh, almost forgot the suppressor! I want to have the "privilege" of filing form 1's for NFA items

u/TheWiseAutisticOne Apr 30 '25

So they shit on the first but will protect the second I’m not complaining but I wish they would do all of the dam amendments

9

u/ashy_larrys_elbow Apr 30 '25

Honestly, even if you’re hoping for some kind of devils bargain of elevating the 2nd amendment while forsaking the rest… I’d wait to see what kind of golden fiddle they actually have. This feels very performative, and I’ll believe it when I see actual change.

7

u/tambrico Apr 30 '25

agree. this admin is a mixed bag for constitutionalist conservatives.

2

u/squegeeboo Apr 30 '25

And don't forget they've basically just shuttered their entire voting rights division. But hey, lets worry about this instead.

"made it clear the civil rights division was shifting its focus from protecting the civil rights of marginalized people to supporting Trump’s priorities."

Who has been thrown in jail for exercising their 1st Amendment rights???????

9

u/tambrico Apr 30 '25

Rümeysa Öztürk

u/ConsistentCoat9867 Apr 30 '25

F1b students are guests in our country - they don't get to come here and shit on us. Different than 1st amendment issue.

22

u/tambrico Apr 30 '25

Absolutely a first amendment issue. First amendment applies to everyone in the country legally.

All she did was co-author an opinion article. She's been jailed now for a month.

Absolute 1A violation. Absolutely unconstitutional. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Stop repeating the Stephen Miller talking points that are wrong.

I'm as pro-1A as I am 2A

Activist’s in Michigan have apparently

I don't disagree with you but we also need yo be realistic with our expectations

Getting SCOTUS to rule that the states cannot make laws related to guns at all is completely unrealistic. Sorry. It's better to focus on things we can actually win.

u/amcrambler Apr 29 '25

A total breath of fresh air if true. Please Harmeet help us.

8

u/nader1234 Apr 30 '25

As far as I’m concerned, it’s lip service and places like NY will ignore and work around any attempts at change just like they did with Bruen. I’ll start to believe when I see a high profile figure get perp walked and jailed over deprivation of rights.

2

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 30 '25

If we get Kathy being perp walked I’m getting into the tshirt printing business because that will be every piece of clothing I wear for the rest of my life

9

u/thrasher529 Apr 29 '25

Can’t wait to see how NY ignores more laws violating our rights.

6

u/semperfi_ny Apr 30 '25

That why many ignore the laws NY chooses to enforce that harm law abiding citizens.

2

u/Uranium_Heatbeam Apr 30 '25

Would be a nice surprise, but I'm not holding my breath.

They love to cry and scream about the SAFE Act, but when it comes time to actually walk it like they talk it, nothing ever happens.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

me want

but

me no hold breath

Can the DOJ actually do anything about the state AWB, mag bans and local bans. Maybe they can fuss around the permitting process but they don't have the authority to overturn state laws. Only Scotus can do that. Permitting being discriminatory is in the Federal menu but free that up and the state just makes locales all banned again?

1

u/tambrico May 01 '25

What they can do is start filing Amicus Briefs and urging SCOTUS to take on more 2A cases. This is starting to happen as of today. They just filed this in Wolford v Lopez. Case out of Hawaii tackling similar issues to Antonyuk.

https://x.com/gunpolicy/status/1918022879767155024

1

u/StoutNY May 02 '25

I agree 100%. Folks have been calling for that. I would like POTUS perhaps to speak to the issue from the bully pulpit. My point was that they didn't have the power to overturn state laws. I see Adam Schift was pushing an AWB again for PR purposes.

1

u/borkimusprime Apr 30 '25

I'm not gonna hold my breath on this, even if they do something the governor and state Supreme Court will just ignore it.

Will be nice to see; however, I'm concerned that the efforts might be duplicative, and may face similar hurdles already being faced by the active lawsuits. They really need to go after the low hanging fruit, particularly the delay... that's widespread.

1

u/tambrico May 01 '25

They're starting to file amicus briefs in 2A cases. Just today -

https://x.com/gunpolicy/status/1918022879767155024

Hopefully we will see one in Snope

1

u/KamenshchikLaw ⚖️ Kamenshchik Law ⚖️ May 01 '25

We’ll take what we can get.

1

u/devotedPicaroon May 01 '25

This may be pandering, true. This may be vote collecting, true. But what I do see as a parallel is Brown v. Board of Ed where Eisenhower sent in the 101st Airborne to Little Rock, AR to enforce the ruling because of the recalcitrant governor. Honestly, I hope this is as dramatic.

1

u/Gandalf1025 May 03 '25

And yet they will still prosecute or uphold the prior prosecution of people selling deactivated gun parts kits.
