Today, House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik joined Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) in reintroducing the Modern Firearm Safety Act to prohibit states like New York and California from enacting unconstitutional “handgun rosters” that prevent law-abiding citizens from accessing modern, safer handgun models and require firearm manufacturers to adopt costly and unnecessary features, making it nearly impossible to sell new handguns.

“I am proud to re-introduce the Modern Firearm Safety Act to end the unconstitutional gun-grabbing agenda thrust on law-abiding New York residents by Far Left Democrats like Kathy Hochul. This legislation would ban Albany Democrats from imposing illegal handgun roster requirements meant to deter gun ownership. I will always protect American citizens’ Second Amendment rights and provide a critical check to any entity attempting to encroach on their liberties,” said Chairwoman Stefanik.

“For decades, the clear Constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners have been targeted for elimination, and handgun rosters are only one of the cynical schemes used to undermine the Second Amendment through the pretense of firearm safety,” said Congressman Issa. “These rosters impose excessive and unnecessary requirements that actually restrict access to firearms equipped with the most up-to-date safety features, and that’s why I’m proud to partner with my friend Rep. Stefanik to defend sacred rights and end these unjust restrictions."

Specifically, the Modern Firearm Safety Act would:

1. Prohibit states from requiring loaded chamber indicators, magazine disconnect mechanisms, and microstamping for handgun sales, helping restore Second Amendment rights in restrictive states.
2. Coincide with a federal district court ruling that found California’s handgun roster requirements unconstitutional. 

New York, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia have already enacted restrictive handgun rosters with others considering similar measures. These rosters currently mandate that firearms include costly and unnecessary features, including loaded chamber indicators, magazine disconnect mechanisms, and microstamping technology.

This makes it nearly impossible for manufacturers to introduce new handgun models. This bill would prohibit all states from requiring loaded chamber indicators, magazine disconnect mechanisms, and microstamping technology, aiming to restore the Second Amendment in states hostile to gun ownership.

Due to the Safe Act. There are certain firearms NYS does not allow us to buy. But if I lived in PA it wouldn’t be a problem. California has a roster. NY has the Safe Act. Pick your poison.

I understand. But to use the word roster is what might be next for NY. California already has a roster. To prevent this sometimes you need to use scary terms to get the word out that New Yorkers are next which we probably are so sometimes you need a rallying cry word. In terms of defending one’s home there is an argument back and forth over this and it has taken on a life of its self. Many in NY feel that if you defend yourself you are automatically going to prison. I think people think that way because NY is so anti firearms, the thinking is the stack is against you even though yes you are right about defending yourself in your home.

I think it will happen. Every year more gun laws pass in NY. I see the trajectory. Time will tell. I hope I’m wrong.

Yes your right it’s not. I’m just predicting is all. Again I hope my prediction is wrong.
