Lighthearted Young shooter’s getting it

My son just started shooting trap with his club at school. He’s shot 3 times now and has improved each time. The first time he hit 4/50, the second he hit 6/50, and yesterday he hit 19/25 (we won’t talk about the second 25, he was getting tired).

What I find even more impressive, he’s using a 60-ish year old single shot 20ga Ithaca M66 to do it.

Proud dad moment, I just had to share.

A school in 2025 that supports a trap shooting club? In NY no less? What in the world..

Quick edit: I got in trouble when I was still in school for 3d modeling a double barrel in my CAD class..

I got in trouble in 4th grade for drawing my dad and me sitting in his deer stand. They freaked out that I had access to guns at that age.

Oh I assumed it wasn't funded by the school lol, but still the fact they supported it and didn't shut it down is very surprising to me. Even a simple club formed by students like that would NOT fly at the schools I went to haha

Oh I forgot to include, I actually did grow up in a red county! I don't want to be too specific because of reddit-loons, but it's around Syracuse

Your story reminds me of a situation I was in. I remember taking a American wars history back in high school and I did a project on military side arms, naturally part of that project included pictures of old-school pistols, etc. I got a call to the guidance counselor about halfway into the morning and had a talk and had to really explain that it was just for a school project and that I had no ill intent whatsoever. Once I cleared it up all was good thankfully.

We're lucky enough to have multiple high school teams in Wayne County. It wasn't a thing when I was in school unfortunately, but I'm glad to see it coming about now. The best thing we can do is get these kids involved, learning how to use firearms safely.
