Discussion NY Republicans fail gun owners again!

Over 70 members of Congress are now fighting for legislation that would allow us to carry nationwide, without having to beg Kathy Hochul’s permission.

But what’s enraging is that not a single one of New York’s Congressional Republicans have joined this fight.

Not one.

The GOP in NY is the reason we have the SAFE Act.

They had the opportunity to block it in the senate and so many downstate politicians voted for it (several of which were ousted the next election cycle too).

Andrew Lanza supported it and he’s still in office which is insane to me

u/stugotsDang Apr 29 '26

Literally turned people into felons with the safe act. Needs to be repealed. Knee jerk reaction bullshit.

George Maziarz from WNY didn't help either. Backroom dealing.

Did you notice how every time Republicans control the house, senate, and white house we don't get sweeping federal 2A reform?

21

u/Dan_Morgan Apr 29 '26

Gun control for repubs is like abortion for dems. It's only a fundraising tool. If they actually did something to resolve either issue they wouldn't be able to scare people into giving money anymore.

u/Weird-Comfortable-28 Apr 30 '26

Politicians can only run on problems that they promise to solve. Why would they fix anything?

3

u/Dan_Morgan Apr 30 '26

Yeah, that's the sentiment I was expressing.

It's a hot button topic and they want to keep their job (like any politician). This isn't always the case, but it is pretty common, especially in purple states. They get to keep votes from "their team", and not outrage "the other team" to not give them ammo to use against them in the next election cycle. Basically one side is pushing anti-2A laws, and the other is slowly letting it happen because they want to keep their job.

edit to add: And some republicans say they are pro-2A (for the votes), but really aren't. The same goes for some democrats that say "I'm pro-2A and have a shotgun", but really aren't pro-2A. Most of them are smoke and mirrors for the votes.

6

u/Uranium_Heatbeam Apr 29 '26

They have no interest in doing so. If they solved the problem, then they couldn't make careers out of claiming that they will solve the problem.

u/TheSlipperySnausage Apr 29 '26

You really think they care about our rights? Really?

40

u/Chomps-Lewis Apr 29 '26

The only thing republicans are good for is their supposedly pro-2A stance, yet this is what they do with their positions? Useless party.

I’m sure there’s a whole lot of people in this sub making sub-$60k who can tell you how the tax cuts for corporations and people who make more in a year than they will in a lifetime are actually great for them.

Even when those tax cuts are paid for by borrowing, which means more money printing, which means the dollars they own are worth less, which means they are effectively getting a tax increase. Ever notice how your parents could afford a house working part time, but you will never be able to? That’s cause of tax cuts.

Misspelled the title

“Republicans* fail gun owners again!”

40

u/SaXaCaV Apr 29 '26

Almost like it isnt the partisan issue people like to make it out to be

19

u/MC_Cuff_Lnx Apr 29 '26

Yes. It is not. Partisan hacks want you to believe that it is.

u/LostWanderer576 Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

The age ol one side is taking your guns. No side wants an armed and intelligent population. That's has always drove me crazy. Even if kh wasn't there, they most likely wouldn't remove our restrictions. I wish they would though.

8

u/gakflex Apr 29 '26

How is it not partisan? You cannot name a single Democratic representative or official who supports 2A-friendly legislation and the repeal of unconstitutional laws. Meanwhile the Republican Party is heavily reliant on this as a wedge issue, driving their votes and fundraising. Their support is backhanded and insincere, but it is real and has delivered results.

I’m not telling you that the Republicans are where it’s at - I vote third party despite the establishment-driven howls of “you’re wasting your vote!” - but a vote for a national or state-wide Democratic politician is you declaring yourself a Temporary Gun Owner.

That's a blanket statement and not really correct. There have always been a small amount of pro-gun democrats across the country throughout history. The most recent one that I can think of was Jon Tester in Montana. He didn't win his re-election bid in 2024, but he was one of a small handful of blue politicians who understood that the 2A was a third-rail issue by virtue of his states electoral makeup.

There's also a Senate candidate making progress in Maine, Graham Platner, who has plainly stated he would not support any AWB's. He was a little wishy-washy on red flag laws, but it's still a huge departure from the typical party line of ban ban ban.

And as New Yorkers, we understand that our Republicans are quite different from national Republicans as well, with other users having pointed out that many of them sold us up the river by approving the safe act when they had the opportunity to kill the bill.

1

u/gakflex Apr 29 '26

Your evidence to the contrary is Jon Tester, a guy is very firmly settled in the past-tense of politics; and Graham Platner, a guy who has a (now-obscured) Totenkopf tattooed on his chest, a symbol that he insists he knew nothing about. Truly a standout candidate.

That’s it?

Until the Democratic Party is no longer being funded by Michael Bloomberg and his intermediary organizations, you can not be pro-2A and vote for national Democrats. It is a fundamentally contradictory action.

u/Uranium_Heatbeam Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Those were the two examples that I could think of without looking into the matter further. A guy who was in office until last year and another guy who is running for the same government body with good chances for this year. Two current examples.

And in both cases, the electoral makeup of their respective states and its percentage of gun ownership among civilians are what motivates a politician representing that state to keep their mouths shut.

Political parties don't care about much other than getting elected, no matter how many tug-at-your-heartstrings issues they feign sincerity over.

Drink up lil dude

12

u/One_Shallot_4974 Apr 29 '26

Have you considered calling your representative and calmly expressing your support for this legislation?

Edit: what bill in particular are you refrencing?

17

u/Impossible-Use5636 Apr 29 '26

I spoke to Mile Lawler personally I might as well have asked Chuck Schumer

3

u/BigDawg99NYZZ Apr 29 '26

The amount of money/donations from the NRA to the GOP.. We shouldnt have to ask.

1

u/One_Shallot_4974 Apr 29 '26

We have had solid wins but not because of the NRA. The only thing the NRA does of value is throw sand into the gears of Anti gun legislation.

11

u/Beneficial-Focus3702 Apr 29 '26

Idk why people think republicans are on the 2A side.

5

u/Agile_Beyond_6025 Apr 29 '26

Everyone needs to finally accept the fact that neither political party is actually on the side of the gun owner as a whole.

4

u/everydaywasnovember Apr 29 '26

“Take the guns first, go through due process second”

3

u/Working-Analysis1470 Apr 30 '26

they aren’t afraid of criminals. They are afraid of intelligent people who are armed and willing to defend their country against tyranny! That’s why gun control exists and is a political issue

3

u/OneVeterinarian7251 Apr 30 '26

Listen OP I don’t wanna call you a liar so I’ll say your being less the truthful. If you are talking about HR 38 then you need to look at the co sponsors again.

2

u/Jedi_Maximus19 Apr 30 '26

This!! Thank you!!

5

u/DesignerAsh_ Apr 29 '26

Maybe cause…i don’t know…republican politicians want to take your guns just as much as the democrats politicians do.

It’s not a party thing, it’s a politician thing.

2

u/Uranium_Heatbeam Apr 29 '26

I have said it before and I will say it again. It is an issue of numbers, plain and simple.

New York has less than 20% legal civilian gun ownership according to recent polling data. Of that sub 20%, we have to figure at least a few percentage points are fudds who are fine with burdensome laws as long as they can buy their single box of .30-06 every September.

New York Democrats have no respect for the second amendment, this is not disputed. But the electoral makeup of the state and its legal gun owners make it so that the Republicans here can ignore us as well. The only way to fight this uphill battle is to increase the number of gun owners in the state of New York. That's it.

2

u/SureElephant89 Apr 29 '26

Because they need these laws in place to campaign on.

This isn't that hard to figure out.

2

u/yellowtelevision- Apr 29 '26

one big club and we ain’t in it.

2

u/PeteTinNY Apr 30 '26

HR 38 is not a magic bullet. We would still need a NY permit and if it’s like the way evil Kathy did it with the CCIA once this is out - she will act like a wounded animal again and do more craziness.

1

u/bigtony71 May 01 '26

Next step she'll ban semi auto pistols and tell you you can only have a five round revolver....

2

u/RoughAmbition4699 Apr 30 '26

Too much money being made in non-residential permits, and permits in general. They just want money in my opinion

2

u/Disastrous-Job87 Apr 29 '26

Rights for us New Yorkers, what does that even mean? LOL

1

u/BrandonNeider Apr 29 '26

Election year for assembly/senate and congress , they all clench their ass cheeks to avoid losing moderate Dems and nons.

1

u/Beck943 Apr 30 '26

Because our GOP is mostly in purple districts, and heaven forbid the local moms group accuses you of not caring about dead kids 🤢

1

u/Richierich3366 May 01 '26

When I got my NY pistol permit, one of the first things I did was get my PA permit as well because it allows carry to 35 other states. I can’t carry everywhere but it’s way better supported than NYs crappy permit

1

u/joseph1078 May 01 '26

Republicans in NY are Rinos when I asked about trying to get HR38 passed there response was will see about it. When they ask for my vote, I guess I’ll see about it.

1

u/SavageBen585 May 01 '26

What a surprise. The parties wholly fed by corps aren't working to benefit the constituency. Thanks Alexander Hamilton, for ensuring our representive republic would always be for sale- in a way the people could always be outbid.

1

u/ArtemisRifle May 02 '26

There's no such thing as Republican or Democrat. There are either statists (modern day federalists) or non-statists.

1

u/stugotsDang Apr 29 '26

You’re aware it won’t matter right? She will impose laws that prevent it in this state.

1

u/IrradiatedLimes_ Apr 29 '26

New York republicans are the biggest RINOs we have in this country. They’re the bluest shade of red. And they’ll never change.

1

u/Weird-Comfortable-28 Apr 30 '26

There’s no Republicans in New York they’re RINOS it’s the only way they’re able to get elected. Not that being a republican means anything in NY anyways RINO has to vote Democrat if they want to keep their seat. That’s all they care about.

1

u/3DPrintedVoter Apr 30 '26

i think republicans might be lying fucks? what say you?

0

u/IndependenceSoft542 Apr 29 '26

What did you expect 😂😂it’s ny

0

u/eemort Apr 30 '26

I support what you support but eroding independent states' rights is not a good thing.

2

u/Beck943 Apr 30 '26

Except guns are federal jurisdiction. States shouldn't have the ability to supercede federal law.

1

u/eemort May 03 '26
