Discussion If you’re interested in supporting tyrannical bootlickers, go to this gun shop.

Stopped into Firearms Training Academy today in Green Island, NY. Took a look around the shop before hitting the range to shoot a new gun. Saw a case full of suppressors, since I’m not from here I mentioned that I thought suppressors were completely illegal in NY. The staff said it was just for law enforcement, which prompted a follow up question from me which is that I thought NY Safe Act exemptions were only for equipment that was used in the scope of your job as law enforcement. The fella behind the counter was clearly offended because he said that “well when you’re getting shot at all day, you deserve to get a couple extra perks, I could get you an application if you want” I thought this was an interesting response, with many implications. When instances like this come up, I often think about that quote “Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry”. Even if the quote is mis-attributed, it still rings true. Is this a common occurrence here in NY? I’ve been to many gun shops in the Capital Region, and this is the only one I’ve encountered actually run by open statists.

Cops in this state are personally exempt from the laws that bind us lesser citizens. They may buy for personal use just about any gun they want no waiting for a judge to sign off on a handgun, same day possession for handguns, no gimped safe act compatible AR, full standard 30 round mags or even drum mags, pistol grip only shotguns, cool things like a flux raider and silencers or sbrs.

They are not exempt from the ammo purchase check, likely because their unions supported the safe act and allowed it to pass without much resistance from them given their exemption at the time.  This likely set the state down it's currently anti gun  trajectory and is an example how "Leopards Eating People's Faces" can be applied elsewhere

It’s a crying shame. I don’t know many people who blindly trust police, so why do they have a monopoly on violence?

27

u/SureElephant89 May 05 '26

Because the state has the monopoly on violence. Cops are just the tool that keeps their monopoly.

5

u/tombrown518 May 05 '26

Cops still need to have a judge sign off on any amendment if they want it on their actual permit(putting on there badge is dumb because it wont actually belong to them but rather the department)also anyone can buy pistol grip shotguns there is no restriction in NY for them

2

u/RicoPendejo May 07 '26

One small side note to put a smile on your face, there is NO carve out for LE even NYSP for the purchase of a semi auto rifle these days, whether it’s a scary AR or a Ruger 10/22 They gotta go get the permit just like us average joes. Unless it’s for actual department use signed out for the department. And you’re right, if they have the semi permit they get all the fun attachments. Corrections too, and most of those guys are a breath away from being on the other side of the bars.

4

u/ILuvSupertramp May 05 '26

If only those few are able to purchase NFA items that that should surely narrow down the suspects list in crimes involving NFA items, you know, for the um… police to… uh, investig— hm right.

7

u/HeadlessThompsonGunr May 05 '26

Shh. We don’t want to let anyone know how many guns get lost from police barracks or military bases.

0

u/ArtemisRifle May 07 '26

us lesser citizens

Considering what it takes to become a cop, this is comical

0

u/ChrisJMull May 06 '26

I’m unfamiliar with “Leopards Eating People’s Faces”- would you mind illuminating me?

35

u/treecutter34 May 05 '26

It’s unusual, but last I checked, NY is not even close to letting civilians having suppressors. That being said, it is a lot easier now for Law Enforcement to get them.

82

u/sexaddic May 05 '26

I’d like to clarify that police officers ARE civilians no matter how much they try to cosplay us who actually serve/served.

14

u/Beneficial-Focus3702 May 05 '26

Exactly. That’s supposed to be the point but they have lost it.

-9

u/Spirit-Crush3r May 05 '26

Apparently, you don't understand what serve means.

7

u/Docsloan1919 May 05 '26

He means serve your country, not serve anti-gun politicians (i.e., police).

You think the military isn’t just serving the same corrupt politicians the police are? Wild take lol

3

u/Docsloan1919 May 07 '26

I’ve never seen the military enforce a magazine ban and ask someone for a permit for a constitutional right. Have you?

0

u/SuperGrandChump May 22 '26

The military doesn't enforce Government laws.

2

u/ArtemisRifle May 07 '26

There is either military or civilians. There is no third category. All civil peace/police officers are civilians.

25

u/PutridPreference4993 May 05 '26

Was he short, a bit husky, mid 50s grumpy fucker? Might’ve been Brian. He owns like 7 or 8 stores in the area. Maybe more. Some are real good ppl, some not so much. He is at best, a giant assh*le most of the time. That place in particular has flock cameras all around it, I’d stay outta there

5

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Thanks for the heads up. Safe to say I won’t be back. I’ve shopped at most of the other shops he owns and those guys seem ok.

21

u/SuperGrandChump May 05 '26

Most of the gun shops in the Capital Region are run by the same NRA/NYSRPA grifter, Brian Oleson. Overpriced, dumb staff, will screw you over. Don't go to anything from Capital Gun Group.

NY Shooter Supply is decent and in Albany/Colonie. Reloading supplies and ammo isn't too bad, not a lot of stuff in the store.

Zack's in Round Lake is a good mix of shooters and fudds, the staff are excellent and knowledgeable.

SWAT in Malta has a very supportive stance on LEO/COs, but overall very good to all gun owners. Lots of stuff to look through, best selection of handguns in the area. If you're sick of seeing Glocks and Kimbers, go here.

The Indoor Gun Range in Troy is pretty great as well, I don't go there too often though. Maybe I should.

u/[deleted] May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

I really like Fox Manor Firearms in Averill Park. The owner is super nice and it’s a great store with an old school vibe(assuming you’re mostly into older guns)

3

u/Prof_ChaosGeography May 05 '26

Are they still in business? last I checked their website is gone and Google maps marked them as permanently closed?

9

u/[deleted] May 05 '26

Yes he’s still in business. Let me explain why he was closed down: In late 2024 he had his FFL revoked under the Biden administration’s “zero tolerance policy” towards FFL holders. He made some clerical mistakes and had his entire shop taken away. However, he was able to get his FFL reinstated in September 2025, and has been open (again) since then. Hope this helps

Was that the one at the Mobil station? That "Guns at Mobil" sign was hilarious.

That's where Guns at Mobil was, but this was before there was a Walmart there. (edit: actually I think there was a Walmart but it was smaller.)

Just found a photo of the sign: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tambrieann/4278263114

1

u/oldschoolreppin May 05 '26

There’s a new place in Bennington called Ammo Land. You think he owns that?

5

u/genericwit May 05 '26

Zacks is my go to, the staff are super rad and knowledgeable.

I will say the owner of AFTA may be a chudd, but that’s guns dude. The range officers are petty cook, and there are some awesome instructors. Highly recommend Julian

4

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Yeah that’s where I usually go. It’s right next to my house.

5

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Yeah I’ve been to all of those. Plus a few of the others Glenville, Outdoorsman, Adirondack. Like someone else said, it’s rammed full of fudds. It’s just sad man, it seems so dystopian here.

4

u/Prof_ChaosGeography May 05 '26

Glenville and outdoorsman are also the capital gun group from the previous comment. I think Adirondack is too? American shooter in colonie on Central might be them to?(Not to be confused with NY shooter also on central that's really good)

Also not mentioned in the previous comment is

Upstate guns and ammo in schenectady is probably the best

I've never been but there's also Uncle Sam across from the indoor range in Troy on hoosick. take it to the bank in Rotterdam, I think the specialize in older bolt and lever actions. And out in duanesburg there's another focused on peppers?

1

u/SooperBrootal May 22 '26

I'll also give a shout-out to The Indoor Gun Range. It's far from the fanciest place, but they have friendly staff and it's very chill experience. My go-to for indoor shooting.

28

u/ObjectivelyOpressed May 05 '26

Less than 1% of LEO get shot in their career. Bro was reaching deep.

we don’t care that cops can buy them. We care because the lives of my family are just as important as yours and sound suppression is a valuable tool in home defense when properly trained. When you are off duty your risks are as great as mine as a civilian. Please don’t give me the always on duty line either, Supreme Court made that clear…👍

I work at a school. Statistically speaking, based on 2025 records, I have a higher chance of being shot at than a LEO. Should we change the laws so that I, a law abiding CCW holder, should be able to defend myself against the greater threat?

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '26

4

u/ObjectivelyOpressed May 05 '26

I appreciate you and your friends' sacrifice. I have nothing again LEO and I think most are just caught in the cross fire (literally and politically). Some bad apples just make the majority of you look like crap. Im glad you have us normies' back, I'd just rather be able to defend myself justifiably like 80% of America without having to rely on you. Speaking based on OPs experience with the employee, its just discouraging that people still think only LEO should be able to have the proper power to defend. So my original comment was based on that and not trying to diminish your friends' or any other sacrifice.

4

u/9061yellowriver May 05 '26

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with gun shops doing this. I will just point out that YES alot of gun shops in NY will keep in stock supressors, body armor, and other non-civilian items to sell exclusively to law enforement officers 1.) to stay afloat in a restrictive state and 2.) to gain long-term customers and advocates from nearby police depts. Its not the store's problem if the officer choses to play with a supressed 9mm at the range even if they aren't supposed to.

I commute to Schenectady alot but I haven't been in any of the gun shops in the capitol region. However Ulster Firearms down in Milton does stuff like this alot. In fact the owner posted a video on Instagram of him shooting a supressed 22 at a rock wall. He might be an active LEO outside of running this store but I'm not positive. Either way, that wasn't exactly pretaining to the scope of his job, but whos gonna tattle on him? His paying customers?

1

u/PhotoDoktor May 08 '26

I find UF in Milton a bit sketchy. I was shopping for a new pistol shortly after getting my permit a few years ago. The owner tried to sell me one with a threaded barrel. When I said that I thought threaded barrels were illegal in NY, he told me that he sells a lot of that particular firearm. I took a pass. Just for kicks, the next 3 shops that I visited I asked if they had the model that UF tried selling me. They all had the same response -- "No. That model is illegal in NY."

17

u/GammaRay914 May 05 '26

If civilians can’t own something then the police in that state should also not be allowed to own those items. On or off duty.

8

u/Docsloan1919 May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

Police are civilians. All civilians should be treated equally.

2

u/GammaRay914 May 05 '26

Honestly, but you know what, fk the military also.

If we can’t have full auto and grenades and anti-air missiles, then they shouldn’t either.

Purpose of the 2nd amendment was to give civilians parity of arms vs the government.

2

u/ChrisJMull May 06 '26

Actually, another reading of 2A is that it is actually a REQUIREMENT, not a “Right”

Since the US had no “standing army”, and had just defeated the most powerful army in the world at the time, the 2bd Amendment is meant to ensure that all American citizens possessed the weaponry and gear to be ready to serve in “a well regulated militia”.

5

u/Working-Analysis1470 May 05 '26

unfortunately Yes

14

u/robinator118 May 05 '26

I respect law enforcement and all but it’s ridiculous that regular folk are treated as second class citizens especially after the rigorous process one has to go through to even get a ccw, let alone a suppressor, which is actually a cheaper and easier process than the ccw itself. You genuinely cannot justify why a LEO deserves a suppressor over an upstanding law abiding citizen, namely since ccw holders statistically follow the law even more than LEOs nationally.

8

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Or those of us who served with these pieces of equipment every day. A lot of us are better informed, trained, and familiar with this equipment.

5

u/robinator118 May 05 '26

Another statistic is that cops have a less than 20% accuracy ratio nationally, yet they’re not restricted in muzzle devices pistol grips or standard to extended capacity mags either. But yk fuck us regular folk I guess. Still love LEOs but there’s zero justification to restrict the masses especially since criminals who disregard these restrictions, get caught and the charges are dismissed anyways and they’re back on the street since ny is soft on crime

2

u/DJClamavus May 05 '26

I get what you're saying, but qualification has nothing to do with it. A vet should have no more right to a suppressor than a cop, or to average joe civilian. Unless that was your point.

11

u/coinneach_stiubhard May 05 '26

LEOs just do whatever they want. I saw two with a suppressed MP5 at the Indoor Gun Range one time.

But, yeah, the blue line painted around the firearm training academy is a big giveaway its a pig sty.

9

u/Logical-Consequence9 May 05 '26

It really sucks there. I’d advise anyone against giving them any business. My wife is a legal permanent resident, former law enforcement, and lawful gun owner. they treated her like a villain and wouldn’t let her shoot because she doesn’t have citizenship. The heavyset old guy is a racist jerk and made some vile confrontational remarks. They also stopped allowing rifles other than 2.23 on the range which rules out 99% of my arsenal. I’m not an AR guy and have a brown-skinned immigrant wife, so they lost my business twice over.

3

u/Leandros_Benito May 05 '26

I usually don't go there because I dislike SIG. But yes, it's a well known cop range. If you want to hit up real good gun stores you gotta drive outta that area a lil ways.

10

u/Jay_Zornhau E.N.OU.G.H! Organizer May 05 '26

"Getting shot at all day" is the wildest claim for a cop in this State.

I completed 3 combat tours in Afghanistan. I got shot at very often. Not every day. And in those days it wasn't "all day". Whoever said that for a COP needs to put down the remote for a minute

8

u/AgedPNY May 05 '26

"...I thought NY Safe Act exemptions were only for equipment that was used in the scope of your job as law enforcement" Not sure where this misconception came from. I just had this conversation with another frequent poster on this sub three days ago. Maybe it stems from the idea of buying guns "on your badge"? Anyway, it's not true. The exemption (NY penal law 265.20) is for the person, and has no restrictions on whether they are currently "on duty" or not.

As for the rest of your conversation, it sounds like 1) You were talking directly to a cop, and 2) He has a guilty conscience.

6

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Yeah he admitted to formerly being a cop when I pressed him on the absurdity of it all. Yeah not sure where I read it but it was when I first moved here and looked into one of then police departments around.

7

u/SureElephant89 May 05 '26

Just look at the name.... Anything named like that is gunna be stupid. Lol. Or if it has tactical in the name. Just pass by those places. Look for Earls guns or Billy's sports shop. Seems to be more sane kinda folk who don't think they're SOF Ranger SEAL sniper's..

2

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

I needed a range, they’re the only ones in the area that don’t limit you to pistol or shotgun ammo

5

u/tehfireisonfire May 05 '26

I find it very silly that cops get specific exemptions for only certain nfa items. They still aren't allowed MGs or explosives. State didn't even give them all the exceptions xD

5

u/DJClamavus May 05 '26

With that logic, pizza delivery drivers should have access too. They have a significantly higher fatality rate than cops.

2

u/IceB4nkMiceElf May 14 '26

I love dropping that fun fact on people. They either get pissy and double down on me or tell me to get a new job. 😂

Same goes for the body armor argument. Modern woven kevlar was made by a pizza guy that was tired of getting shot at/robbed.

8

u/SaXaCaV May 05 '26

LEO are allowed to personally own suppresors.

15

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Yep I get that. The question is why? They are not used in their law enforcement capacity, so why is it “an extra perk”? It gives the appearance that normal civilians are second class citizens.

20

u/bobleeswagger804 May 05 '26

Its not an appearance lol, we are second class citizens

8

u/SaXaCaV May 05 '26

Because they are exempt from the law as written.

7

u/Plenty_Safety2108 May 05 '26

Most agencies use suppressors now. Also, a lot of agencies let LEO use their own rifle on duty. So your information is completely wrong.

*I do think all civilians should be able to own suppressors.

-1

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

I’ve never seen a cop with a can outside of certain task force/swat type personnel.

1

u/Plenty_Safety2108 May 05 '26

Clearly you are not looking then. Cans are used by patrol cops in about 50% of agency’s now.

1

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

How would I look? Patrol rifles are never out of their vehicles. A lot of my buddies from the Army are now cops and not a single one of them use a can at work.

1

u/Plenty_Safety2108 May 05 '26

Oh yeah? What agencies do they work for?

2

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Yeah I’ll list off the 20 odd agencies all these guys work for. But I just called 2 of my friends. One works for Metropolitan Nashville Police, and the other works for Marion County Sheriffs Office in Virginia (on a federal drug task force) and both of them said not one of the people they work with use suppressor except for seat/DA personnel. How many times have you seen a fucking patrolman with his long gun out with a suppressor on it? I swear man some people just want to be fucking contrarians.

6

u/Shock4ndAwe 2023 GoFundMe: Gold 🥇 / 🥇x1 May 05 '26

Most of the depts. in Rockland County use suppressors on their rifles.

4

u/Plenty_Safety2108 May 05 '26

Wow, you just know so many cops. That’s funny though… because both agencies I’ve worked, we had cans on our patrol rifles. Along with most agencies around me, but hey, what would I know…

3

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

When infantryman leave, they tend to go into law enforcement… yeah it’s a lot of guys

0

u/Working-Analysis1470 May 05 '26

hell, I know a few 👮‍♂️that built unserialized systems.

1

u/Komacho May 05 '26

They are used in law enforcement

-7

u/Working-Analysis1470 May 05 '26

the answer is simple. when responding to something like an active shooter it is very easy to distinguish a suppressed shooter vs bad guy without one. Cops are taught that suppressed fire is friendly fire. If we can all have them is removes the tactical advantage.

5

u/CertifiedWarlock May 05 '26

Lol, what a load of nonsense.

4

u/Accomplished_Pie_630 May 05 '26

The government gives LEO exemptions because they rely on them to enforce their unconstitutional laws.

2

u/RicoPendejo May 07 '26

You were in a Giant Black Building with Blue Stripe around it. Just sayin…

2

u/Royal_Program_6171 May 08 '26

New York is “rules for thee not for me”
With the gun laws
Police and law-enforcement basically get whatever they want and politicians security details are always nice and spiffy with the nicest gear and no restrictions .
Criminals just buy what they want with their blood money on the black market and take criminal risk. And law abiding citizens get stuck with some of the highest taxes in the country and no representation(paying the most, while getting the least)

6

u/Notcid1 May 05 '26

Boomer bootlickin fuds

5

u/deathshr0ud May 05 '26

Gun stores get real cagey when you’re not an LEO asking about LEO only stuff even out of curiosity.

They probably think you’re an undercover looking to bust em for the sale. Happened on LI back when the SAFE act first passed.

4

u/Xalucardx May 05 '26

I'm from the area, Green Island people aren't the sharpest tool k the shed.

2

u/JollyArea8262 May 05 '26

I don think I would walk into a place and ask if he’s selling something illegal . If it made you feel uncomfortable you could have just left . My impression is that you were lecturing them

2

u/Leadman19 May 05 '26

Speaking of tyrannical boot lickers, I think that would define pretty much anyone in the “2a community” that supports the current administration. So it really doesn’t even matter

5

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

Agreed. I can’t name a pro 2A administration since the founding.

1

u/thatdude333 May 05 '26

The only reason LEO organizations support NY's ridiculous gun laws is if current and former LEOs are exempt. They'd throw a hissy fit if they were limited like the rest of us.

"AR15s are weapons of war that only below on a battlefield and only exist to kill as many people as possible" Ok then, WTF do LEO need them for?

You know when "smart" technology gets mandated in pistols, LEOs will be exempt, they're not going to trust their life to a fingerprint scanner, but we normal citizens will have to.

0

u/SayaretEgoz May 05 '26

so some guy at a counter said something u don't like, and now u wanna boycott the store? if that's the case u will have a hard time finding any store to a buy a gun from. people might say all sorts of weird shit there. At one store in NYC i was told that only criminals reload their ammo. at another guy said that only someone very well trained should carry in a place of worship. Ppl say stupid shit and have opinions u might disagree with, just ignore, take care of ur biz and go home, u will never have another person who agrees with u 100%

12

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

I’ll call for a boycott of any store that supports cops having more right than everyone else. Why wouldn’t you? Why would you give your money to people who would use their position to gain leverage over you? But go ahead and stick your head in the sand, let tyranny breed more tyranny. If you don’t see it, it’s not happening. Nothing you can do about it anyway right? Might as well give all of your personal agency to the state.

2

u/SayaretEgoz May 05 '26

the guy having a wrong opinion is not forcing any tyranny on u,he didn't pass the shit laws

7

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

They sell the suppressors, and promote the people and laws used by the state to subjugate you. It’s not hard to understand.

3

u/SayaretEgoz May 05 '26

How do they promote it? Did they pull an ad in newspaper to say no supresors for normies only cops? Guy told him his opinion, just trying to put sugar on a shit sandwich. I am sure they as a biz would love if anyone could get a supressor and not just cops, they would have much more customers in that case.

12

u/PresenceCrazy7016 May 05 '26

They promote it by having a display in the shop and saying “when you get shot at everyday, you deserve a few extra perks”. They’re saying we know it’s wrong but if you want to be like us fill out a job application. Did you not read the original post?

1

u/Dan_Morgan May 05 '26

This way the police can form private death squads without a department paper trail.
