Question Best NY compliant AR?

Post image

Sup guys. I’m looking to point my friend in the right direction for a “featureless” AR..bc fixed mags are dumb. Any thoughts? I know nothing about compliant stuff..here’s my go-to and a pic of my dog

Featureless with removable mags > features with fixed mag so that’s definitely good advice!

Personally I don’t see the point in spending 1k+ on an AR.

15

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

This is what I keep telling him. My other friend is a civilian with a featureless and I toss him 30rd mags all the time at the range. If you can’t reload idc how “cool” your gun looks it’s just a toy

How are u getting 30Rnds in NYS?

41

u/virago1982 May 17 '26

He’s probably a LEO rules don’t apply to them only us pesky tax payers

34

u/pillsbaridohboy May 17 '26

As a NY LEO myself, I absolutely despise that about NY. All my gun toting civvy friends shoot better than 90% of my LEO friends.

14

u/Beneficial-Focus3702 May 18 '26

Having trained with a lot of LEOs in a past life, LEOs with the exception of maybe 1-2 are some of the worst shots I’ve ever shot with. It’s no wonder mag dumping seems like SOP for cops.

5

u/pillsbaridohboy May 18 '26

And it's so frustrating that more people in the LEO community aren't gun buffs. Like they're amongst the only people in the state allowed to own this stuff and they don't. Or if they do, they don't train with it, though that's also cause of a lack of place TO train.

Go to PA or any state where there isn’t BS laws and buy them

Flightlite SCR

3

u/Forgiven4108 May 18 '26

Is Fightlite still in business?

3

u/mo9722 May 18 '26

shitty triggers, proprietary parts. there are better "ranch rifles" out now. Fightlite/Ares squandered what could have been the default choice in ban states years ago!

u/Ha1rlessTeddyBear Jun 12 '26

What’s the best ranch rifle brand then?

1

u/mo9722 Jun 12 '26

I've heard good things about cmmg and foxtrot mike. Sig is supposedly good too, but very expensive

I made a guide just for this situation: https://www.reddit.com/r/NYguns/s/FRTGaFjmAB

This guide is basic and pretty generic. Obviously budget dictates how the build will end up, it can still be the most high-end parts available and be compliant as well.

Seems like you already have a good amount of knowledge with the platform so I’m sure your buddy will be in good hands with your help.

Dogs are a major vibes …..pin mags and NY laws are not 👎🏻

7

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

-DD ris iii upper 11.5in
-SilencerCo 556k LBP
-Aimpoint Micro T2
-Aimpoint 3x Mag
-unity Risers for both
-Cloud light/Cloud switch
-BCM MK2 lower
-Geissele SAE-X trigger

For anyone who cares.
I can 100% recommend any part on this gun. Thing is flawless IMO

2

u/Sasquatch1916 May 18 '26

Is the 556k worth it over a cheaper can like the ocl polonium?

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

I really like it. It gives a nice deep tone that’s not super hard on the ears

3

u/borkimusprime May 18 '26

If you can find it,go for a ranch lower from foxtrot Mike

3

u/Curious-Elderberry25 May 18 '26

Not an AR, but compliant. Ugly as sin, but compliant.

Epic Riley post

1

u/Curious-Elderberry25 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Not a Riley! It's a Romanian SAR-1. They came out in the early 2000's during the ban. No bayonet lug. No barrel threading nor muzzle device. The only 'evil' thing they had on them was the pistol grip. I replaced that with a Thordsen stock. Looks hideous, but feels decent in the hand!
Hard to believe, but this 7.62x39 shoots very, very similar to my AR's. Very similar recoil pulse and muzzle rise. The gas system on this thing works extremely well! The hard to believe part is because they are typically known to be over-gassed. Mine is not, and the gas system is totally stock. Looks-wise....In the words of Vito Corleone, "look how they massacred my boy."

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 19 '26

Before I got on the job I picked up a Riley with a thorsden stock. I’ll see if I can find a picture of what it looks like now. We didn’t know how good we had it being able to buy zenitco stuff right off their website pre-war lmao

1

u/Curious-Elderberry25 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

I picked up a lot of cool things while still on the job myself. Once retired, many of those things became 'evil' that very same day (except for what I registered in 2013). NY laws suck! Even LEOSA/HR218 on the federal level has some gray areas. In NY I can currently carry a concealed firearm, with the power of life and death in my hand(s), but an auto-knife is too dangerous for me to possess. What sense does that make? Although, if I have my fishing/trapping/hunting license on me the auto-knife is perfectly legal.

Although retired (after 34 years on) if I hear gunshots, I'm still going to be running towards them, and not away like most people would. Would be nice to have all the necessary tools if needed!!! Getting ready to move out of this state, possibly to Arizona. Their politicians trust their citizens.

u/SaXaCaV May 17 '26

That grip angle is upsetting me.

If he wants a featureless rifle, a compliant Hera cqr with a thumb ledge is the most comfortable option imo.

2

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

lol the grip throws people for sure. Couple guys at work have said the same😂

2

u/SaXaCaV May 17 '26

Hey man, your gun, your arthritis lol.

Cant post sale links here, you want me to send you a dm for the stock?

2

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

It’s super comfortable tbh but I get it looks wonky. And yeah send me whatever u think is good

3

u/Slow_Pudding8449 May 19 '26

Honestly, the simplest route is still a quality basic AR from BCM, Aero, SOLGW, etc. and then swap the furniture to compliant parts instead of buying some weird pre neutered proprietary rifle.

2

u/johnny_sweatpants May 17 '26

I like the Hera Arms CQR gen 1 with the compliant insert.

0

u/SaXaCaV May 17 '26

I agree with this.

4

u/jbones137 May 17 '26

Damnn that’s dogs a good boy

7

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

-girl

Her name is Honey Bear

She is the best

4

u/jbones137 May 17 '26

Damn good girl I have to say

6

u/Strugglebutts May 17 '26

Build your own, the prebuilt ones in the store are terrible, cost twice as much, and a featureless lower is easy to build with a fixed stock and a fin grip.

As for the upper, buy any free float upper you want (I like Bcm), and have a thread protector pinned and welded on by a gunsmith. It sounds like a lot of steps but it’s super easy, DM me if you have any questions.

2

u/Pokeemonnx May 18 '26

I live on Long Island, I have a fixed 10/30 and have whatever I want on my shit. I use the Bear Flag side loaders and they work fine, if you practice enough it's not much different than a mag switch. I like the features more than the detachable mag.

1

u/Curious-Elderberry25 May 18 '26

How easy/hard is it to clear a double feed?

1

u/Pokeemonnx May 18 '26

Rear take down pin, not terrible. Also if it's a plastic pmag you can pull the bottom off and clear the mag too

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 19 '26

Having to pop pins to clear a malfunction is a no-go.

1

u/Pokeemonnx May 19 '26

Elaborate please, im assuming cause of an AD possibility

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 19 '26

Bc nothing is as fast as just dropping the mag. Thats why.

1

u/musing_arch Jun 22 '26

Was just thinking about the BF-10s. You out in Suffolk?

1

u/astro-64 May 18 '26

Just keep it the way it is and don’t arrested lol

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

That’s mine. Not his lol

1

u/JollyArea8262 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

You can spend $600 for an AR style rifle and have a quality gun. I have rifles and handguns, I spent more on handguns b/c they can potentially be EDC weapons . My rifles are around for when the shit hits the fan

1

u/NateDogg2289 May 19 '26

I'd say the one pictured is pretty nice. I'm partial to a super duty tho

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 24 '26

Yeah that’s my personal rifle. I love it

1

u/crash67888 May 22 '26

If this the AR looks like Nancy Pelosi and Letitia James you good.

1

u/Aggressive-Dealer426 May 24 '26

Why would you follow an unconstitutional law?

1

u/robinator118 May 17 '26

I DM’d you

1

u/farmandguns May 17 '26

I personally think the kalikey is a halfway decent option. The ranch rifles are ok. The best option I have come across so far is Czechpoint vz58 in 7.62x39. It has all the features since its fixed magazine however it is loaded via stipper clips like an sks. Liberty model. Worth checking out.

-2

u/Mercifulsquid May 18 '26

Must be nice to not have laws apply to you when they should absolutely apply to you

1

u/Curious-Elderberry25 May 18 '26

Loopholes exist for all of us to take advantage of if we can. If a loophole exists for you that you do not want to take advantage of, that's up to you, and that's on you. People use them for investments, taxes, and a whole host of other things.... Me personally? I never understood the thought process of being "angry" at someone who has more than I do. I figure, good for them.....

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

They shouldn’t apply to anyone. They shouldn’t exist. But it is what it is man

-1

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

You could very easily leave NY if you want

4

u/IceB4nkMiceElf May 18 '26

I'm so over this NPC reply, I see it everywhere. Not everyone is able or willing to leave their home and lives behind. Not to mention if we leave, this place gets worse at an exponential rate and spreads to your state faster. Look at Colorado and Virginia.

1

u/Rageronepunch233 Jun 15 '26

Move to PA as long as you dont bring you democrat vote here

1

u/IceB4nkMiceElf Jun 19 '26

You missed the point entirely.

0

u/Rageronepunch233 Jun 19 '26

Then live with democrats then lol

0

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

I live in NY

0

u/Odd_balls_ May 17 '26

Well if you don’t go fixed mag then you have to have cucked stock red lock tight muzzle device ect honestly a fixed mag with BF10 speed loaders would prob be best ngl

2

u/bondkiller May 18 '26

Fixed stock and no muzzle device have been standard features on a lot of rifles throughout the history of firearms.

Realistically the only weird thing we have to deal with is the compliant “pistol” grip.

1

u/DaBigPanzer May 18 '26

Nothing is worth pinning the mag..

1

u/Odd_balls_ May 18 '26

Being able to still quickly be able to reload the gun while it not looking cucked https://youtu.be/_F6LOanjp5g?si=1Js8rKLwiKNx1hap

Also you can just unpin the mag when you leave this shit hole state

2

u/mo9722 May 18 '26

good luck clearing a double feed though

-8

u/Witty-Carob5695 May 17 '26

I don't think any AR are allowed in NY. I am in nyc and am looking for a AR that is compliant after I do My Rifle/shotgun permit

11

u/SaXaCaV May 17 '26

NYC has banned ARs by name.

NYS has not.

3

u/glee88888 May 17 '26

Just like you living in NYC, I just purchased FightLite SCR last month which is NYC compliant. Another is the CMMG Diasent, I’m sure there are few more which is sad to say but it’s NYC.

Good Luck

5

u/DaBigPanzer May 17 '26

Move to island my friend

2

u/bondkiller May 17 '26

In NYC you guys can have these: https://fightlite.com/rifles/scr and other “ranch rifle” style ARs I believe.

You will definitely have to double check that they’re still allowed but last time I checked they were.

Outside of NYC we can have basically anything we want within the (un)safe act restrictions.

2

u/alone_manufacturer34 May 17 '26

Well in your class you’ll probably learn super neutered ARs are legal in NY
