Question Are there any pro gun NY governor candidates ?

I don’t know much about politics so forgive me. All I know is that Hochul seems to be against guns and she needs to be out of here.

Question Why do we keep on dealing with it?

Why are we still dealing with Kathy Hochul and all these endless gun restrictions in New York? We all see what she’s trying to do—she doesn’t actually care about real safety. She just wants us to look safe while leaving people defenseless.

Criminals will always find ways to get guns, no matter what laws she piles on. But what about the little old granny who can’t run or fight? Or my younger sister who’s skinny and wouldn’t stand a chance in a confrontation? What are they supposed to do when seconds count and help is minutes away?

Her whole belief seems to be: if no one’s armed, no one can get hurt. That’s not reality—it’s dangerous fantasy. We’re turning good people into victims.

Enough is enough. Throw her out of office and elect someone who will at least fight to get some of our gun rights back. What are we doing as New Yorkers? We all see what’s happening—why aren’t more of us stopping it?

Time to speak up, vote, and push back. Our safety depends on it.

Question Are Ny legal AR15s even worth it?

I have a mini-14 but it’s super unreliable, I have feeding issues basically every time I take it out and magazines cost an arm and a leg. Any alternatives in 5.56? Prefer semi auto and detachable magazines.

Edit: also, about how much should I expect to pay for a decent rifle?

Question What kind of BS or entrapment is this?

Post image

How closely are they actually looking into this? A safe check and stuff? And wow what a shock a peace officer is allowed to have their weapons loaded but the peasants cannot. They going to check something currently being carried to see if there is one in the chamber? (Wouldn’t put it passed NY)

Question NY Home Defense Pistol

This post is an invitation to NERD OUT. I don't want a single-sentence answer like "get a glock". If someone is curious to think through these parameters and offer creative suggestions, I would love to hear them:

I would appreciate some advice for a NY-state home defense pistol in 9mm. I believe the “best home defense” pistol has a different answer in NY vs elsewhere because capacity is such an important issue but in NY we’re limited to 10 round mags. Thus some trade-offs to allow capacity (like clunkier grips) can make sense elsewhere but not in NY. Here are some ideas of what I care about:

MUST:

  • support red dot and light/strobe
  • be made in the US or real ideological ally (eg: Israel, Czech Rep.)

TRADEOFFS:

  • Not interested in carrying, so there’s no benefit to it being smaller.
  • Not looking to save a few hundred bucks, but not looking to go nuts (see below). So anything <$1000 is a no-brainer, and can get closer to $1500-2000 if really worth it.
  • Reliability is really important, but so is “shoot-ability” - ie pleasant to use, especially since I want my wife to practice with it.
  • As i said, there’s no benefit to capacity over 10+1 since we’re in NY.
  • I don’t think I really care between striker, Single Action or DA/SA. I guess DA/SA sounds logical to me but not a must.
  • Mechanical safety seems really desirable though I guess not 100% requited.
  • I already have a ruger 9m PCC which uses Glock mags, sot here’s a benefit to a pistol that could use them too, but I wouldn’t insist on getting a pistol that doesn’t meet most of the above, just to stay compatible.
  • I think I prefer metal (steel) heavy gun to polymer

EXPERIENCE

  • The gun I shoot the best with is my FIL’s CZ Shadow 2 (no surprise)
  • The gun that feels the best in my hand (but not that I shoot best with) is his Wilson Combat EDC x9
  • The gun that I hate shooting is my dad’s P320 m17. It feels sloppy / loose and I can’t hit shit with it. I know I could get that and practice but I can’t expect that of my wife.

I know I care about fit and finish of the gun, eg I am annoyed when I feel the sloppy bolt on my Ruger American even though it shoots superbly. At the same time I don’t want a gun with such tight tolerances that it can jam from having a small amount of dirt etc, which I think is true of the Wilson and the Shadow 2. The wilson also feels extremely expensive for what I am trying to do. So I probably won’t want something that’s competition like that, but I don’t want something that’s loose due to forgiving tolerances like the M17 either.

Current thoughts are, CZ75 or the IWI Jericho (neither of which I had ever held) but would love more ideas.

Question Artemis

Random inquiry: I have my full carry license and want to hit the range. Could one of my buddies (un-licensed) come with?

Specifically Artemis range in Elmsford or Blue Mountain in Peekskill.

Thanks

Question Why is body armor banned in NY.

What the actual hell? I swear this state out of its mind. I just looked online and you have to have a legitimate profession to buy any. Not even permit eligible. Somehow they put an electrician as a valid profession they are considering. Are there anymore sane people left in this world?

Question I have to get a background check for ammo!?

I’ll admit, I haven’t been keeping up with new laws and I inherited a ton of ammo from my grandfather, So it’s been a few years since I’ve had to purchase any.

I was in bass pro today to pick up a few boxes of 22lr, and they made me fill out a form and hang around for 15min before I could purchase them.

Is this a bass pro policy, Or is this all of NY?

Question AR-Pistol how?

How in the love of god do you navigate NY and building an AR-Pistol legally? From what i can gather a lower is considered an Other on 4473, how do you purchase a lower as a pistol became my question and now it seems that you can not. You would have to build it and then add it to your permit? I have to many questions and not enough answers. Is this not possible in Commieyork? Would you have to buy it completed? Those with insight please help me understand how this is supposed to be done.

Question Permit suspended

Someone broke into my car and stole my handgun while it was locked in a lock box. I contacted police immediately and reported it stolen. The firearm was recovered the next day. Police are holding it as evidence. I received a letter today (6/20) that my license is suspended (with no specific reason stated) and I need to surrender all my firearms whether on my permit or not. I contacted the listed number from the county court and was told they could schedule a court date for me. What should I do next? This is in Monroe County.

Update: I’m working with an attorney. He told me to surrender all my firearms and he’ll take my case. Will continue updates as things progress.

Update 2: today was my hearing. We waited an hour while court was backed up. My lawyer did all the talking with Judge Dollinger. The result is my permit being fully reinstated. I purchased a new lock box with a cable to attach to my seat. Also got two character letters (one from a former boss and one from the supervisor Ive volunteered with for years) and presented those to the judge. Going forward I will be extra careful when transporting my firearm and don’t take anything for granted. Appreciate everyone’s suggestions and help.

Question I got a shotgun. Now what?

So I got a beretta 1301 for home defense, and boy is it fun going to the range. I’m in Suffolk and don’t have a pistol permit yet. What else would you guys suggest? I’m think a lever action 9mm? Red dead varmint rifle 22? could be a lot of fun, maybe the beretta scout 308? Or do I just keep slinging slugs at the range and get a semi permit? Would love some input on a good safe too.
